lorraine blanco joins us from the fire scene in red wood city, good morning, pam. >> reporter: he told me this fire seems to be a deliberate act and you can see in red wood city the street is still closed off while investigators try to find the exact cause. it started in the car port with up to five cars on fire at the same time. it spread to a nearby apartment building at 2:20 a.m. two dozen people are homeless this morning. the others have smoke and water damage and the whole building had to be evacuated. all 27 people got out safely and the fire quickly grew to three alarms. >> it is based on the amount of working that had to be done. the amount of fire, the fatigue factor is not a safety concern for us and then the amount of working we have to do is usually where the bulk of the job has to occur. >> the american red cross is helping all the residents with food and shelter and at a community center there were no surveillance camera but the deputy tells me it -- there were no injuries but the deputy tells me this is peers to be a collect it -- appears to be a deliberate act. firefighters called in an investigator to figure out how this fire started. they say nobody was inside but somebody was living in the home. they will call in the red cross once the person is found. pg&e's had a response to a big fire. that happened yesterday afternoon on san bruno. investigators say a gas line ruptured while a worker was doing working on a building and it flowed for nearly two hours while firefighters battled the flames. >> they are trying to determine the location for the shut off. they had to reach the concrete -- breach the concrete twice in order to get the shutoff valve. >> workers arrived on the scene in 20 minutes but they could not stop the flames because they could not fine the shutoff. three firefighters suffered minor injuries. a 17-year-old boy was shot and killed in front of a san jose elementary school. somebody in a car opened fire and he was shot several times and died at the scene. the shooting happened 6:20 it investigators remained on the scene late into the night. the area is known for gang activity. still no motive in the shooting and no arrests have been made. 4:33 we have new information on two shootings victims in antioch. an officer found the men bleeding in that car on wilbur avenue at about 8:00 last night. they were taken to the hospital at 5:00. now police are not getting straight answers and the men are reportedly giving straight answers. the police chief hopes to catch criminals with new software. he told criminals about an anonymous tip crime unless anybody e-mails tips they are routed to a server in canada. police are using money seized from criminals to pay for that program. new information regarding a controversial proposal in berkeley that would ban sitting on sidewalks. >> well winter people... >> reporter: opponents of the idea held a rally outside city hall. >> the measure will ban sitting on sidewalk from 10:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m. at night. >> this is a mean-spirited thing to do. you talk about quality of life. what kind of thing is that? well we would like to have them have respect for the community and sitting is not going to happen. >> we asked the attorney to draft the ordinance and counts sills will decide -- councils will decide on whether to bring that measure. they talked about what police found when they searched the house and the complaint after the arrest. nurses will walk off the job. nurses prepared signs yesterday. 4400 nurses are expected to be on the picket lines for a one day strike. they held similar walk outs in december and then in may. their contract expired and sutter management is preparing mandatory overtime and cuts to sick leave. >> patient safety and patient care, you have to leave it to the individual when to go home and when they are not. sutton has hired replacement nurses and striking nurses will not be able to return to working
