I believe Francis House Democrats say they are set to release articles of impeachment against President Trump with an announcement expected early Tuesday from bendingly report support laid out 10 different instances of obstruction of justice there's been several members of the Democratic caucus who in closed door meetings over the course of the last couple of weeks have been pushing to include that however moderate members a Democratic caucus particularly frontline freshmen members have said keep it focused keep it narrow it so at this point in time we know for sure there are 2 a 3rd is still being debated at this moment tonight staff working through the night on this issue but still unclear whether or not that there will be included Israel and police now say they're opening a criminal investigation into the deaths of tourists on one island where powerful volcano suddenly erupted Monday 5 deaths were confirmed 8 others are feared dead but unstable conditions on the island continue to slow to search the details of the criminal investigation but said it would sit alongside an investigation by health and safety regulators Well the Justice Department inspector general's report says the f.b.i. The internet has of late been in a frenzy over a weird object hovering above the small California town of Mina fi the video that 1st emerged on You Tube on December 3rd Despite originally being videotaped on October 19th sported a vast amount of lights with the glow leading viewers to think it could be a drone lurking in the clouds or maybe something even bigger What else is going on in the skies Let's. Check in with Stephen cage Dr sky high Stephen what do you have forces week hello george and hello everybody out there we begin George with astronomy and of course talking about a space age record with the sun may soon fall so far George in 2019 the sun as we've talked about before has been spot was for 262 days you know sunspots as we go into a deep solar minimum the recent space age record was back in 2008 when that was 268 days and digging deeper into the astronomy and solar files we find out that 311 days were spot was back in 1013 but this is all pretty bad predicting that isn't building up to what we should be an exciting solar cycle 25 George in space something really cool air astronomers have concerns about space x. Starling saddle flight trains at the Boston launch I should say in last few months apparently these small satellites George are pairing and interfering with images taken by large observatories and astronomers are confused as space is becoming a very crowded place some of suggested that the small satellites be made of non-reflective material in the future thus lowering their appearance and brightness in the Sky and Space x. Is now officially George stated that future launches of these Internet providing small Starling satellites will actually have an unarmed a dart that is not reflective material placed on them they launch 60 at a time and they're important for telecommunications you know George when we think about things what are the fastest objects to leave the earth you and I both think what rockets of course of course but when we go back into history or something totally from the obscure and maybe real file allegedly back in back on August 27th of 1957 during a special nuclear test in the divided desert known as Operation Plumbbob a large 2000 pound manhole cover once was a nuclear weapon detonated some 480 feet below the surface a manhole cover allegedly was blasted off into space images. And video high speed video shows the object moving astronomers and scientists predict that if it left the Earth's orbit it was traveling at 125000 miles an hour but still some say it's just a large and we wrap up with the Live Sky George this is amazing continue to look right in the sunset area of course after sunset in the Southwest you'll get a good view of Saturn and the beautiful planet Venus as they now come together with in some 2 degrees the big news of course for the week for people who love the moon the full cold bone George will officially take place 12 12 am Eastern Standard Time on the 12th and finally the Geminid meteor shower exactly one of the most reliable George it's great even though it's cold look into the skies in the northeast on the evening hours of the 13th and for the morning of the 14th even with bright moonlight if some of these Geminids are bright enough to be seen with trails and trains in the skies that's a beautiful thing and we wrap it up by reminding the listeners to always naturally Remember to always keep your eyes to the skies and appreciate the e-mails that Dr Scott show with g. And welcome back to coast to coast George Norry with you with our guest for the next couple hours Steve Gorham is an and informative speaker delivering compelling and provocative programs to businesses universities and diverse organizations he's an independent scholar researcher Futurist in the fields of energy and environmental policy as well as a former engineer and business executive with 30 plus years of experience at Fortune $100.00 and private companies executive director of the Climate Science Coalition of America which is an independent not political association of scientists concerned citizens focusing on informing Americans about the realities of climate science and energy economics as well Steve welcome back how are you George I'm doing great have the late night early morning to you great to join you again great timing with all these folks at the United Nations climate conference in Madrid What do you think of that yeah it is amazing. The totals over 25000 attending the conference us as I understand 1500 press and then we also have thousands marching in the streets so what they want what are they marching against well you know George we live in a world of superstition. Gratitude and the 16 year old from Sweden is there leading up there in their estimates range as high as $500000.00 activists that demand. That our leaders control the climate and many of these marchers believe that if we change light bulbs we can save polar bears if we build wind turbine towers we can stop the oceans from rising and if we all drive electric cars we can make the storms less severe and less frequent. And I call this climate system the belief that humans are causing dangerous global warming have they been tainted these protesters. Have they've been tainted by the well. I'm not sure of their training or not actually the level of active it activism is been growing as Ms Zornberg said in Sweden now they have been striking on Friday the students from school for a year and a half they walk out for a part of the day every Friday at school so a level of activism is growing but you know the odd part about all of this is it's not really clear that. Humans are causing global warming to a measurable extent and b. That we can control what the earth's climate does Steve with this climate conference that's going on do you think it one do you think it's necessary into your thoughts I think we've pulled a lot of this haven't we yeah the United States. President Trump announced he was going to withdraw from the Paris climate accords I believe it was a year and a half or 2 and a half years ago and. Just in early in November we sent in our formal withdrawal. To the framework convention on climate change so the u.s. Has pulled out we're really the only country to do so but this is the this is the cop $25.00 c o p $25.00 the 25th conference of the parties. These meetings have been going on in a way for now a quarter of a century and people fly to exotic locations all over the world can Kuhn in Madrid and Paris and all sorts of places and they're going to go on you know we made we all live long enough we may see 50. But again there's a question of whether these things really accomplish anything for anyone. Steve a lot of people I think are also confused about climate issues and pollution and obviously nobody wants to pollute the planet but I have a feeling that many people who are these climate change proponents are confusing it with pollution are they well they are and it's deliberate in many ways I mean you see pictures of. Polluted skies over Shanghai or some other location and people say this is causing global warming the fact is though that that we need to reduce the real pollution the stuff that you can see in the air nature Cyc site so for I say tolls on another things but the big greenhouse gases and the greenhouse effect is what is blamed for causing dangerous global warming they're all invisible. The biggest greenhouse gases water vapor which is invisible carbon dioxide is invisible and. Niter ammonia methane excuse me methane is the 3rd biggest All those are invisible gases so if you can see pollution in the air none of those things are causing dangerous global warming nevertheless carbon dioxide is caused a pollutant is called a pollutant it's described as dirty. It's called carbon actually which is a completely different substance and carbon dioxide it's as different as as water is to hydrogen so there's a deliberate effort to to kind of intermix the 2 of the great news is that in all major develop nations of the world air and water pollution is declining and it's nations get more wealthy they clean up their air and their water and so from an optimistic point of view we're going to see falling pollution levels all over the world as we go forward who's the biggest offender right now Steve Vizard China China's the biggest emitter of carbon dioxide by quite a bit I think the inner emit about 25 percent of the world's carbon dioxide the u.s. Is down about 15 percent now in the developing word world is rapidly rising India Indonesia and a lot of other places. Nevertheless the United States and the Western Europe have been blamed for putting all the carbon dioxide in the atmosphere over the last few decades and we have accepted that blame. And so. We're we've been branded as bad guys by the United Nations and the other climate activists or would Steve go around his Web site is his name is linked up at coast to coast am dot com for you His book is called outside the Green Box give us your overall perspective on climate change Steve as we move forward with our chat tonight well overall I think the evidence shows that climate. Global warming which is what we're really talking about is dominated by natural factors not manmade greenhouse emissions. When we have some time I'm not sure we have a break coming up but we could break down the greenhouse effect and talk about that let's do that after the break for you sure but more and more evidence shows that climate change is dominated by natural factors yet we have this this belief everywhere that our factories and our cars are causing it I believed for years that we are in a planetary cycle that the solar system itself is warming up because of the sun and that we go through the cycles on this planet every certain amount of time we do with long term medium term and short term cycles we can talk about those as well but the earth's temperatures are always changing throughout our history and you know they talk about global warming yet we've had some horrendous his winters psi mean freezing winters there been people that Dr David Viner of England was talking about snow is going to be a rare and wonderful event children won't even know what snow is. But actually the data shows that we actually even though we've had a little bit of warming the last 3 or 4 decades northern hemisphere and North American snow extent has actually been increasing contrary to the predictions can we comfortably say that people who believe that climate change is caused by mankind that they care about the planet and they really want to fix it they just absolutely they're very very sincere Al Gore has been an environmentalist since the seventy's I think he's very sincere The problem is though that the evidence doesn't support the theory and the economic and the solutions that are being proposed are not economically sound so those are the things we have to look at since you've been doing this what got you involved in this statement well back in the about 2008 I was out of work business executives from the electronics industry never thought I'd be doing this I couldn't find a position my local area at the cya level and one morning I thought well you know you can research you can write start looking at issues and kind of. Got zeroed in on the global warming issue read all of Al Gore's books and a bunch of other ones came to the conclusion that this was all a big mistake and so since then I've written 3 books on Sustainable Development. Global warming environmental issues and I'm a professional public speaker now speaking to companies about the science and economics do you think that those of us who believe that this is a psychology caused by the plant solar system is a planetary issue could we be wrong. Could you be wrong could I be wrong in so many other people it's possible the climate is very uncertain it is possible we're wrong however the key. Dangers and kick can us catastrophes that are being projected are not occurring we can get into it but we don't have more and stronger storms. We don't have more droughts and more floods and then we have in history the polar bears are doing fine oceans have been rising at a very low level for the last 150 years so all of the things that are being pronounced as bad issues things like. Climate change being a health issue in the United States we can get into that these things are not supported by the evidence Ok Stephen stay with us we're going to come back and chap more about climate change next hour we'll take phone calls with our incredible audience and our listeners for you Steve go in with us his website linked up at coast to coast am dot com And don't forget to follow us on Facebook and like us on Twitter as well find out more about tonight's guest log on to coast to coast am dot com. And welcome back to coast to coast George Norry with the Along with Steve Gore and we're going to take calls with Steve next hour Steve let's get a break down some of these greenhouse gases and some of the cycles that we're talking about sure so the greenhouse effect is is what is blamed for dangerous global warming. And the greenhouse effect is an effect that's named sunlight enters Earth's atmosphere and what isn't reflected by clouds goes down and is absorbed by the surface of the earth and the earth like any warm body will give off a lower energy infrared radiation and you can't see that radiation but we know it's there and it goes back out and tries to escape into space but it is absorbed by greenhouse gases in the atmosphere it causes the molecules of these gases to vibrate and then when as those gases cooled down they radiate this infrared and that whole effect does tend to warm the surface of the earth that has established science. So jobs don't have to but if you start to break down the greenhouse effect the 1st thing you learn is that. The earth's dominant greenhouse gas I usually ask this of audiences is not covered it's not methane it's water vapor. Scientists estimate that somewhere between 75 and 90 percent of Earth's greenhouse effect is caused by water vapor in clouds. And so if if you if you start with 75 percent and you say Ok 3 quarters of the greenhouse effect is through the water vapor and you look at the last quarter most of that part of the greenhouse effect is caused by carbon dioxide. But then you have to say Ok well how much of that of the last quarter the c o 2 in the greenhouse effect is from our industries because the world is filled with carbon dioxide but the oceans hold 50 times as much carbon dioxide dissolved as is in the atmosphere when plants and the oceans are always releasing c o 2 and absorbing it when plants sti they release carbon dioxide and when they grow they absorb it and then we have Ok nose both above the surface of the ocean and about 10 times as many under the ocean that are putting gases like carbon dioxide into the environment all the time every day Nature puts 20 times as much carbon dioxide into the atmosphere as all of Earth's industries Shays every single day 20 times as much so when you roll this all together you find that human industry is responsible for about one or 2 percent of Earth's greenhouse effect that's all that means if we could if we completely eliminated all emissions we probably might not be able to measure the difference in global temperatures. And so this this this whole greenhouse effect idea really is is you know it's beyond common sense Now one of your listeners might say well then how come scientists think that this is all causing the issue some scientists of course probably a majority of scientists but but that that is a situation over a little bit over half anyway. Well every climate scientist knows that carbon dioxide by itself can't cause dangerous global warming. That's because it's a very small part of the absorption absorption spectrum. And remember water vapor is the biggest part and the other thing is it's a non-linear effect the 1st carbon dioxide me atmosphere raises Earth's surface temperatures a fair amount but as you put more and more into the atmosphere it's a log rhythmic effect you have less and less effect and so the scientists Esmay that if you double atmospheric carbon dioxide either from natural effects or from manmade we don't we increased temperatures by about a degree total that's all. And so then Ok how to climate scientists get to this alarming prediction of rising temperatures the answer is they rely on a thing called a positive feedback. And the logic says that Ok we put a little our industry puts a low carbon dioxide in the atmosphere the atmosphere warms a little bit it can now hold more water vapor water vapor as a greenhouse gas and it provides a positive feedback it warms a lot more. But the a lot of evidence shows that that is not occurring now the climate models have vastly overestimated the warming. We've had very little warming in the last few years and so this idea is all based on this this increased water vapor not in carbon dioxide and the evidence is not showing that this is occurring and by the way Steve none of this means that we are not going to have catastrophic weather changes it just is how was it caused in why that's right the earth our weather varies quite a bit across the earth on any given week and you can go somewhere in the world and find what appears to be a 500 year weather event drought or a flood or a storm that's just the way earth's climate is we have these big variations and people seem to think it over if I haven't seen a storm like this in 40 years this must be really abnormal man effect must be by neighbors s.u.v. Doing it but if we look back a 100 years or 200 years we see many of the same storms and so again the evidence doesn't show that we're seeing. Increases in either frequency or severity of the weather and by the way the function might not realize when they talk about a 500 year flood it means technically that every 500 years you're going to get a flood of this significant huge magnitude However like in St Louis in 1903 we had a 500 year flood but that doesn't mean 500 years from now 2493 we're going to have another one it could happen the next year right after that right yeah that's right and I want to talk some point here about the Great California flood of 859860 but I want to mention one of the thing about temperature I had a couple of students call me up from the University of Southern California want to do an interview and so we did and I said we have to let me ask you a few questions and one question I posed to them was Ok how much do you think earth's temperatures have risen in the last century. And one girl said 15 degrees which I think is sort of the perception out there in the public the answer though is one degree in a 130 years one degree Celsius all of the major temperature metrics at NASA and Noah and from England all say we've had one degree of rise in 130 years which is no way abnormal compared to global cycles and it you know it can't possibly be the deciding factor in California's forest fires for example a couple of tenths of a degree over a few decades it's just but people lose the perspective they go if things are really getting hotter we've got this problem but the evidence doesn't show that hasn't the California governor basically blamed human caused climate change for these wildfires when it's really p.g. And e. The electrical power company Yeah well p.g. And e. Probably face plays a factor because if. Power lines can cause sparking and all the rest and it's dry and it's dry but govern to some You're right has as blamed climate change the problem is though again we're talking about a couple tents and a few tenths of a degree in a few decades and to think that that is a big deal with and the dryness again if you look at data from from Noah there are if we gone through dry periods in the past over the last century there were there was a study done in just a couple years ago called The let me find it here's a little Hoover Commission report a little Hoover Commission report on 2018 and they said there are 3 big reasons why California is having to these disastrous fires and they are getting worse and they're burning more area but one of the reasons is we've had a century of fire suppression. And so they've prevented these forest fires for a long time and the forests are now crowded with tinder dry brush and. It's also worsened conditions for insect damage and disease. I think it was the the u.s. Department of Agriculture that estimates that we have something like those u.s. Forest Service $147.00 Bill a 1000000 dead trees in California and most of those dying since 2010 the other factor is they've cut way down on forestry. It's down about 65 percent in the last 2 or 3 decades so we have all these these forests that are choked with brush we're not cutting down the trees and so when we have a fire we have these huge conflagrations that nobody can stop again it says nothing to do with 2 tenths of a degree temperature rise or are almost it's almost negligible Is there a big money in manmade climate change issues. Well it is I think it's one of the factors yes following a rich over $300000000000.00 a year right now to try and force a switch to renewables all sorts of other factors we have vice presidents of sustainability of companies and deans of sustainability universities we have environmental desk and newspapers we have wind and solar and biofuels industries and all these things have become big business now these are there's nothing wrong with 4 noble so. What's wrong with that. I'm not necessarily against renewables I just think that we shouldn't be subsidizing and forcing the adoption of renewables . With the idea that we're going to stop the climate from warming or the planet from warming there's no evidence of that we also have some what I would call kind of. Severe movements now we have something called. Molech. Everything why don't they simply say though Stephen we're running out of natural resources Fox We need renewables it has nothing to do with climate change we just need to be able to save the planet because one day with all these people that are being born on this planet we're going to run on a natural resources we're going to be a creek Why can't they then it has been an argument the fact is though it's not true as I talk about an outside the Green Box so-called resource depletion isn't happening we have literally because of the hydrocarbon revolution from fracturing we have centuries said at least a couple centuries of oil and gas remaining We also have these methane hydrates on the coastal shelves under the under the ocean where they literally have this ice that is full of natural gas those estimates are 10 times as large as all the gas reserves in the world so there's really no evidence that we're running out of resources. So that argument doesn't work very well either what now what's your take on a 100 u.s. Cities that have pledged to be 100 percent renewable by 2050 Yeah it's a it's a big fan that we have I give you some extreme example St Louis I know it's where I am right now but as for right now as I think by 2035 they want to be a 100 percent electricity renewable but the state of Missouri gets about 7077 percent of their power from a coal electrical power and 97 percent from nonrenewable sources Ohio is similar both Cincinnati and Cleveland mayors are city councils have pledged they're going to be 100 percent renewable Ohio is 3 percent renewable today. So the city leaders have absolutely no idea how to do this and what it's going to cost them but the evidence we see around the world is that it is going to raise energy prices for the residents the big issue too is scientists are warning of a major sea love. Well rise by 2100 and of course they're blaming the carbon dioxide pollution to the us they are former Vice President Al Gore in. His movie and in his books talked about a 20 foot rise by the year 2100 he got that data from Dr James Hansen a and NASA others have predicted big rises but we have very good data on tight gauges and tide gauges around the world we have all of the world show on air bridge or rice of 7 or 8 inches per century. Further you can go to a site at NASA and the NASA tells us that oceans have risen 120 meters 390 feet in the last 20000 years. And no scientist can tell you a natural sea level rise stopped and manmade sea level rise began. So the great news is. We're probably going to have to adjust to a 7 or 8 inch per century rise the bad news is waterski Manhattan postcards are not going to be in big demand not not not going to happen. So yeah any any politician itself he knows how to stop the rise of the sea said Think you better get a little better a little bit a person to follow now is there any company is the leading the way to get this thing taking care of more people don't panic and think it's all manmade. Well I'm sorry to say most of industry has bought into this is true tremendous pressure on companies I talk about it now to say the green box. Companies are spending millions of dollars every year on environmental. Methods or procedures that don't really do anything for the environment such as subsidizing and purchasing renewables counting their carbon dioxide footprint. Even buying carbon credits and a lot of other things. When I go and. Present to companies I say there's only one place for this activity that's in your public relations department because it doesn't do anything else but they're under terrific pressure even the. Petroleum industry has come out saying that we have a great product everybody wants it but it's causing the climate to change in that's hurting mankind. So what when you go to shoot what you think Stephen on whether manipulation I guess I'm convinced we have that capability I think we do it on a local scale certainly they've been cloud seeding for a lot of years. And my uncle who was in the Air Force said he knew how to do it well behaved and I think that can be done locally a matter of fact the it was kind of funny about 4 or 5 years ago the mirror Moscow said that they now know how to control snowfall. The very next winter he got about 30 inches in a sock last arm so maybe that's what they did the wrong way I remember when China was hosting the Olympics some reporter asked one of the Chinese officials what are you going to do this is the rain season and the Chinese official said don't worry about the weather we control that well I do think if if mankind wanted to do some big some big engineering projects they could certainly adjusts earth's temperatures the problem is I don't think we know which is the right direction you know you have an expert on earlier talking about the lack of sunspots like 250 days Dr Spence mark of Denmark and a number of others have postulated that the sunspots on the surface of the fun of the sun affect earth's temperatures and this lack of sunspots poor trends that we're likely to enter a cooling period for a number of years I could go into how that theory breaks down but so it may be that we go out there and put a bunch of things in the atmosphere to try and keep the planet from warming and if we enter a cool period it would not be the right thing to do now it would not at all so what do what do we do how does how do we how do we get this to change how do we get people to change in realize we're in an cycle that happens it's always happened it's happened during the dinosaur era in always happen how do we get them doing that we can go into cycles too but I don't know George I I'm not sure people are going to change I think unfortunately that cities and states have to learn the hard way. We've seen this in a number of locations now we've seen it in Australia and Australia they went all in for wind and some other things and their electricity rates went up by 100 percent in the last decade in the capitals of Australia us electricity rates of going up 8 percent over the same decade same thing in Ontario 100 percent electricity increase they put in about 10 percent renewables in him it just went off off the map in Europe in Germany in Denmark they have about $30000.00 Winter been towers those 2 nations have the highest electricity rates in the world 4 times the United States price. We have the yellow vests in Paris there were there were writing I think people of bench really saying hey you know this isn't working this is driving up our energy costs but I'm afraid that states like California are going to have to learn the hard way that this really isn't good policy and you're right Steve we're going to take a quick break then we're going to come back and take phone calls with you and next hour Steve Gorham with us side the green box that's one of his books and of course his Web site has his name linked up for you at coast to coast am dot com Later in the program we're going to be talking about how you can cope with suffering it's a really interesting facet to the great group of shows all week long for you as a matter of fact will be back in the.
