I understand it and i respect it. I respectfully disagree with how he went about doing it because its certainly not something i would have done but at the same time we also have to understand that the First Amendment to our constitution is, you know, freedom of speech, freedom of expression, and thats one of the things he exercised here. He wanted to make a point and as mark cuban pointed out he didnt, you know, he didnt plant a bomb, he didnt shoot anybody. He didnt do anything. He made a silent protest. Hes an unabashed supporter of black lives matter. He addressed the issue of Police Brutality as insensitive to why took. We understand it and, you know, a lot of people within the black community i can tell you for a fact absolutely agree with him. A lot of people dont agree with how he went about doing it. Well, lets get into that. What about the criticism about how he went about doing it. Some saying its a distraction from his job. Well, you could thats a valid point in some peoples eyes but people take stances all the time. If you remember when Trayvon Martin transpired and other things happened as it pertained to the actions against africanamericans you had nba players putting on tshirts and begged to differ. You see silent protests taking place in recent memory. People who are against the positions that these athletes take will always find an excuse to say that it is a distraction. But what they have to understand particularly when its emanating from the black community in particular a black athlete, the mere fact that its being debated, or people are questioning whether or not its a distraction, what youre saying to yourself is to not supposed to be a distraction. Were trying to bring attention to an issue. Colin kaer that way and even though some people would disagree there are other was would stand by him and say they dont have a problem with what hes doing. What will this mean for his job . Well, it depends. If he can still play, it wont mean much. Itll mean a lot in terms of endorsements. Hes definitely going to feel the pinch there and i think he spoke to the fact that he certainly knows thats coming. But as it pertains to him having a job in the nfl i dont think this is an issue. Were going to move on to a new report on kids and sports and its from the American Academy of pediatrics warns parents against letting their kids specialize in one sport too early. Dr. Jen is with us and it says this focus could lead to physical, emotional, social problems. What do you make of it . Well, heres what were talking about, george, in terms of psi heard it before. There is a risk of overuse injuries, especially when young kids dedicate themselves really to one sport. The socalled specialization. Emotional risk, there could be burnout here and then psychological even, there is a risk that if you expose a young child to one sport as their identity is developing, they could start to see themselves as im just a soccer player. Im just a tennis player and if or when that sport stops, they dont know who they are. So this is a huge push now in and we need to know some numbers here, about 70 of kids who participate in youth sports drop out by age 13. And reality check, only about 3 to 11 will make it to play at the college level. So, if that is your goal or your childs goal you better understand college coaches, yes, they want great hockey players, they want great soccer players but more than that they want great athletes and that means being wellrounded. What do you do, jen, if you your child really just wants to play that one sport . Well, this is my life, you guys, because you know i have a 16yearold daughter who plays ice hockey. Shes been playing for 11 years and we forced her to take three months off a year and we forced her kind of to pick up a sport which shes done reluctantly. Coaches and parents need to take the lead of organizations like usa hockey who has been on the forefront of this. Its age based at the age of 8, you will play and train practicing what you preach. People are still talking about their incredible act of selflessness. Last september the valley fire, one of californias rodericks lost their home, belongings, everything. You never know what it feels like to have literally clothes on your back. Reporter 90 students and many on staff lost their homes too. But the rodericks with literally only the clothes on their back took charge helping the kids and their families with financial aid, clothing donations and hugs despite heartbreak. Their senior year and trying to tell them, its not the end of the world. Reporter the rodericks and daughters tory and taylor are still living in an rv as their home is rebuilt. Bill and shawn even turned down donations and gave them to the kids instead. They just only cared about the school. They put Everything Else on hold. Beyonce apparently has donated over 100,000 to her thats incredible, something you dont always see, a Woman Working really hard behind the scenes. Then beverly bond was a woman that realized that black women didnt have a lot of black role models and decided to do something about it. So beverly is the founder of black girls rock. And this is an awards program and also a mentoring program for young women. And youve probably heard of some of the people who have been on her awards program. Rihanna. Yes, yes, and, you know, shes helping change the conversation. Yeah, and theres one more very awesome woman on that list, again, its a very exclusive over there. Her name is amy robach. Why did amy make this list . I think we all know. We love amy and shes just shes such an inspiration. She is an inspiration and, of course, amy, thank you so much. Thank you. Your very public fight with Breast Cancer has really helped all of us it sort of pointed a light on how important it is for us to take charge of our own bodies and obviously look at screening, and i will say in two weeks im going for a screening. How would you describe it . People that maybe sometimes dont make the most, you know, right decision. Reporter in the film vikander plays isabelle, a free spirit who falls in love with tom played by vikanders reallife boyfriend, michael fassbender. Your character isabelle miscarries several times. Actually as an actor i felt that was the most intimidating thing ive ever performed because its so primal. I had wonderful, you know, people who really helped me to try and make those scenes authentic and real. Reporter one day the childless couple discover a baby in a rowboat washed up on shore and they make a choice that will have serious consequences. What do you think are the driving forces behind your characters decision which we all admit probably wasnt the right decision at the time. It was interesting to play a character like isabelle. Its hard to judge her because everything is initially made from a good place. Im afraid that would be against commonwealth rules. The chemistry between your character and Michael Fassbenders character, tom, spilled off camera, yes . I know you all are very private about it but this is where you fell in love on the set. Thats, of course, between us, but we had met a few times at a film festival, industry parties but we got to know each other during rehearsal. Both him and i have done several films where we play a love story so its very different. The ending isnt always the same, right . As for the film, vikander hopes audiences walk away with sympathy for all the characters. Its about loss. This is about very universal emotional subjects that i think everyone can relate to. Its really a sign of progress for the district. Massive teacher shortage. The superintendent says theres 3hundred positions still open. Parents across the district are welcoming the changes after years of overcrowded classrooms. 21 37 55 03 i think teachers are overburdened with students, theres so many students in the classroom that individual attention for each student is kind of lacking 21 38 03 16 next school year, the district plans to open six new schools which will also help with the of the man killed by an nhp trooper during a shoot out on the 95. Highway patrol says it all started early friday morning, when a trooper tried to pull a car over near boulder station. Thats when 41 year old Matthew Gibbon took off. The trooper chased after him. Leading to the shoot out. The trooper was hit. But the bullet was deflected by his badge possibly saving his life. The two other people in the car with gibbon were taken into custody.
