They have made numerous changes of players at all levels. These including nearly 40 rule changes in the last decade. Strict concussion protocols. Better training and sideline medical care. Is this enough . Cte and post traumatic encephalopathy is not about concussions. They do not cause cte. By itself its a disease. But caused by a blow to the head. No matter how much you reduce concussions youre still exposing yourself of the risk of developing cte. But its not about the science. Its about the spirit of the american family. That i so much believed in as a child. Its a story about what it is to be american, to seek the truth. To become enlightened. Seek the truth. The truth does what . And your name really means that. After more than 40 years in the biz, the last 25 of them hosting nick news on nickelodeon, linda is retiring. Theyll air the special, hello, i must be going. 25 years of nick news with Linda Ellerbee tomorrow. This morning, shes here with us. What a pleasure. Its so nice to be here with you. All these years. Two generations of talking two generations have been with you. It is. Really. We have some kids that were 10 when we started that now have 10yearolds that are watching. We have kids that grew up watching us that worked on the show. Until, you know, just recently until we produced the last show. We had many in our staff here that are so excited because they grew up watching. What was the most challenging story in your 25 years that you had to explainino children . Oh, without question, aids. It was when we started in not that it shouldnt be today. But, it was then. And, the problem with explaining aids was, you have to explain, you have to talk about sex. Right. And in our age group of 9 to 14, there are kids in there who actually havent had the sex talk from their parents yet. So it was tricky. How do i talk about aids without talking about sex . Well, you cant, really. You had to keep all these things in mind. You know your audience. You always have been that way. You chose to be there so many years. What will you miss most . The kids themselves. If theres one lesson i take away from 25 years of listening to kids its that youre never too old to learn from young. Never too old to learn from out of the mouths of babes. Yeah. They taught me. They educated me. In fact, the last part of the show, this is our only hour show. Is really sort of about a personal piece about what you taught me. What kids taught me. What they taught you . Before that, back in the day, thats you thats me, at abc. At abc. You were part of the gma. Big hair. Big shoulders. Big glasses. And big mouth. We do remember that part, too. What do you remember most about your time here with us . I had a great time here at abc. I worked on a wonderful show called our world. A primetime show about recent american history. Every week, i came to work and they would give me a box of magazines and books and movies from a particular year. I would think, okay, this week im living in 1961. This week, ive living in 1942. And, in fact, i would get so immersed in the time period of that show, that i once found myself in the year 1987 writing no. No you didnt. Because thats where i was spending the week in our world. So immersed in it. I know that you, and maybe its not a joke, people say, what next . You say retirement, people say, what next. You say you want to be a shepherd . I got tired to explaining to people that after 51 years of working, i was hoping that quitting work would mean, i could get up every day and think, what would linda like to do . Apparently, im supposed to have a project. Everybody says, what next . I finally began to say, im just going to go be a shepherd, as way of saying, for awhile, im going to do nothing. Joyfully. And im very grateful. I need to say this. That im able to retire. Because too Many Americans are not. And im very lucky i had a great time. In television. Im leaving with my head still on my shoulders. At my own choosing of the time. And my soul still mostly in tact. I love that voice. And, you are just well deserving of all that. Thank you. You paved the way in so many you, too, maam. And were fellow thrivers. I like to say that. Not survivors. I traded both my breasts for my life in 1993. And i have never once regretted the trade. I love when you do the voice like that. Yes, what a great trade. Im glad you did that. Youre here with us right now. And you, too. Linda ellerbee, everybody. [ cheers and applause ] bye, bye. I was in shock, i was petrified, confused, didnt know what was happening. This all happened yesterday morning near sunset and grand canyon. Police are still searching for the shooter who got away in a red car. The man who was shot is in stable condition this morning. New overnight. May have led to a fatal accident right behind caesars. Officers say just before 9, a minivan went through the intersection of jay sarno way and frank sinatra. Kept going and crashed into a wall. The driver, a 50 year old man was taken to umc where he was pronouned dead. A major ufc fight had the strip buzzing over the weekend. But it was over almost before it started. Jose aldo and Conor Mcgregor faced off at the mgm garden arena. The whole thing only lasted 13 seconds though. Mcgregor sent aldo to the floor with one devastating knockout punch.
