At the fall of the morsi government than Egypts Christians. George indeed, attacks against christians have increased since the 2011 revolution, and today christian leaders are calling morsis downfall nothing less than a miracle. Chris mitchell brings us the story from cairo. Reporter this is Tahrir Square, the epicentre of the huge demonstrations that have taken place. Here egyptians have gathered by the millions and changed the course of egypts history. Change the atmosphere as if you are breathing a new air, a fresh air. Freedom. Reporter pastor sumi talfik of the Evangelical Church outside of Tahrir Square describes the events of the past few weeks as nothing short of miraculous. For me, it is a miracle. It is a miracle. It is gods hands. Nobody can do that. We could see gods hands in the first revolution in the 1st of january, but this time we see it more clearly. Reporter in another part of cairo, father antoni gresh also says he sees the hand of god. We consider the dismissal of morsi and his party, and his brotherhood, is really american. It was the hand of god. Because one day before his dismissal, we could never think or dream that he would leave. So it is the hand of god. We see it clearly. Reporter he says the Muslim Brotherhood wanted to establish an islamic caliphate and change egypt. The Muslim Brotherhood, who are trying to steal to egypt, and now all of the christians and the egyptians will tell you, now we are regaining egypt as we know it. That everybody is free. Reporter one thing ive heard from christians is they say what has happened here is result of in part because of prayer. They say dont underestimate the power of prayer. And what christians are telling me is they want christians around the world to be praying for egypt at this time, to be praying for the church at this time, be praying for the gospel at this time because many people are being opened in the last couple of years, to the gospel like never before. So they say it is a very fruitful time, a time of spiritual harvest, but theyre asking that people would pray for them. Reporter yet that freedoms future is uncertainly, whether or not the Muslim Brotherhood will continue to reject a new government, or even begin a few violent intafatah remains to be scene. Christians throughout egypt are asking for prayer for egypts future. Chris mitchell, cairo, egypt. George Egypts Christians may be rejoicing, but that joy is tempered by fears of a backlash against their community. Mohammed morsis supporters are outraged that christian leaders publicly supported his removal, and theyre taking their anger out on the Christian Community. The voice of the martyrs reports muslim extremists in southern egypt burned dozens of Christian Homes and destroyed a church. In other parts of the country, at least three churches have been burned. And at least 11 believers have been killed. One of those killed was a coptic christian priest. 39yearold father mina abud was shot in the head at an outdoor market. It happened in the town of alarish, near the gaza border. He was killed after Muslim Brotherhood criticized the new coptic pope for backing the removal of morsi. In the past, egyptian christians have stayed under the radar, not participating in political or social movements for fear of reprisals. Wendy samuel toddros says a coptic christian and Research Fellow at the Hudson Institute center for religious freedom, and he is authority of the book motherland lost. Cbns gary lane asked him about the future of the Christian Community in egypt, and its role in this recent revolution. The christians have been very visible in the antimorsi process so far, and this high visibility has angered a lot of islamists, whether from the brotherhood or other islamist movements. In a sense, the coptic popes participation in the militarys leader with figures from the Egyptian Society will neither be forgotten, nor will it be forgiven. Weve seen a number of attacks. You mentioned the private killed in the north of sinai, and there are a number of attacks on churches in the south of egypt. And christians are feeling this hatred going against them. It is part of the brotherhoods mobilization, that they are targeting christians, that they are renouncing them as behind this. If the brotherhood is able to portray what happened as a christiandominated or christiandriven protest, they get to gain massive support in the streets. So the language, and the denunciation of christians and attacks on christians are likely to continue for quite sometime in the future. Reporter israel has kept relatively quiet about developments in egypt. Why do you think that is, and what do you think the future holds for the egyptianisraeli relationship . The israelis realize very clearly that any word uttered involving egypt is likely to be used by one side in its favor, and to tarnish the other. So any position they would take would ultimately result in problems in the egyptianisraeli relations. The israelis, of course, have had a longstanding relationship with the egyptian army. They cooperated in the stapleizatio stabilization of the sinai. At the same time they realize that the islamists are there and will not disappear in one night. So they need to also be keeping a very quiet balance out there, maintaining their key strategic issues. They want to make sure that what is going on in egypt does not result in a complete collapse of the sinai. Weve already seen jihadist movements declare some form of independence in the north of sinai. This is something that the israelis are extremely worried about. So a stable egypt, one that does not have those kinds of clashes going on on a daily basis is in israels best interest. Reporter what do you think our viewers can do, sam, for the christians there . You know our viewers are very concerned about our brothers and sisters there. What can they do at this time . The christian situation in egypt is extremely prob mask. Problematic. As christians, it would be good that they would keep the christians in egypt, their brothers, in their prayers, and also to bring the message out, that what is happening in egypt, and what is happening in the larger region, whether in syria or iraq, has been an exitous of christians from that region. And the middle east, which once had nearly 25 , 30 of a christian population, 100, 200 years ago, is now less than 3 of the population of the whole region being christian. Were now seeing the christians of iraq have already left. The christians in egypt and in syria are extremely threatened. If syria is to fall, the christians position in lebanon will also be dramatically influenced by those events. There is a massive threat to christianity in the middle east, and western governments should be encouraged by their citizens to take a position to defend those basic rights of religious freedom, of the religious minorities in the region. Reporter thank you, sam. Thanks so much for joining us. We look forward to talking to you again. Thanks for having me. George thank you, gary. Here in the west, christians are seeing a rise in persecution. In fact, just recently a former Los Angeles County sheriffs deputy was arrested for street preaching in london. Wendy he was taken into custody and interrogated, because he simply called homosexuality a sin. Peter wooding has that story. Reporter 49yearold father of three took early retirement to become a fulltime preacher two years ago. He says two Police Officers approached him as he was street preaching against sexual immortality. They asked me what i was preaching about and if i talked about homosexuality. I said i did. And they continued their investigation, and at about 4 20 p. M. , i was arrested for what they told me was homophobic hate speech. Theyre arresting me. This is because people were offended by what you said. Reporter tony said during all of his years as a Deputy Sheriff, he never encountered the type of questioning he faced from the london police. I was asked specifically that if a person walked up to me and they were a homosexual, and they were hungry, would i give them something to eat . And i was a Deputy Sheriff in los angeles for 20 years. I served as an investigator. Ive done many interrogations. Never once have i participated in an interrogation that was about somebodys faith. Reporter fortunately tonys lawyer was able to ensure his Immediate Release with no charge. What he said amazed me, and i knew it was the hand of god. He said that the inspector has decided to release you with no further action. Reporter the metropolitan Police Department was unable to comment on camera on the matter. But in a statement says, tony was speaking through a public address system and was alleged to have made homophobic speeches. I find it astonishing that here in Great Britain that someone like me can come to the streets of london, open up my bible, preach from the word of the bible what the bible says about all sin, and when i mention a sin of the society, in this case, homosexuality, im demonized, im vilified and treated like a criminal. Reporter they expect his arrest will be the first of many more to come. They remain determined to tell all christians to fight for their freedom of speech and to fight to share the gospel. Instead of in the u. K. , he has now returned to america, where at least for now he doesnt expect his street preaching to get him arrested. Peter wooding, cbn news, london, england. George coming up, a look at the new movie about the origins of the universe. And why angry atheists are attacking the evangelists. George and welcome back to christian world news. Bestselling author and tv cohost ray comfort has a new movie out, evolution versus god. He says the film will disapprove darwinian evolution. One reviewer said the film is, quote, absolutely devastating. If it were a boxing match, the referee would have stopped the interviews with all of those people, including the professors. Take a look. Announcer imagine visiting some of the worlds most prestigious universities, interviewing top evolutionary scientists, atheists, and holding their feet to the fire, until it is clear there is no evidence for darwinian evolution, that it is not scientific. You have thousands of examples. Can you give me one . I can give you dozens. Just one. To summarize the evidence you give me for darwinian evolution is bacteria becoming bacteria. But there is no change. Wendy earlier, i spoke with ray comfort about this film and how he confronted the defenders of evolution with arguments for intelligent design. Ray, for the movie, you took a camera to u. S. C. And ucla, and say you have four very serious scientists on camera, who when their feet were held to the fire, could not provide Scientific Evidence for darwinian evolution. Tell us about that . It is a very bold claim to make, but it is absolutely true. We have an exciting 36 minutes. In the first 16 minutes, you will see evolution unmasked. It is absolutely unscientific. It rests on nothing but blind faith. That is the exact opposite of what atheists and evolutionists say. They say intelligent designed people have blind faith and reject science. No, no, it is the exact science. This movie proves it to be true. We had over a thousand people download it yesterday. Our website crashed. It really shows us that christians seeing the seriousness of the subject because, you know, when someone believes in evolution, that opens up a wonderful door to every sinful pleasure you can imagine. There is no god and were merely primates, and anything goes. Homosexuality goes, lesbianism goes, fornication, pornography, and thats why this is so embraced by this generation. Im so excited about this movie, i cant sleep at night, seriously. Wendy all right. Well, another highprofile atheist and scientist, p. Z. Myers called you a liar. He said, quote, ray comfort is pushing his new movie with a lie. Whats your response to him . This is just the beginning. Youre going see more. When you cannot have an argument against your opponent, you take him down, and you take his character down. Theyre going to have an attack on my character. It has already begun. But im ready for it. Im so encouraged that so many aitheists are so intimited when they see just the promo. Theyre scared silly because theyre going to be unmasked. The emperor has no clothes. And another exciting and encouraging thing is genesis and acts is having a world premier in tennessee, and were very excited about that. Because this is 88 years to the month that the scopes trial took place. This is a reversal of the scopes trial. This is where evolution is going to be seen as unscientific. Wendy down ladie downloads of evolution o versus god are available right now. They go to evolutionversusgod. Com and they can see little bits about the movie while theyre there. Wendy but they cant see it until august 7th . If they download it, they can see it today, but the movie is out august 7th. Wendy all right. The movie is called evolution versus god, coming soon, august 7th. Great to have you on the show. Thanks and god bless. Thank you. George coming up, they are the poorest of the poor, but an International Ministry is giving these paraguayan children a chance for a Better Future. Wendy in venezuala, the uncertain social and Political Climate may actually be helping the church to grow. Large crowds attended this months evangelisiticfest. Th evangelisitic festival. It drew 40,000 to the grounds of the fairgrounds. His invitation to follow christ drew more than 4,000 responses. And for a younger audience, thousands of children received medical care, entertainment, and bible stories and songs. George in the arad region of western paraguay, indigenous tribes ink out a living cultivating small crops. Wendy but the children in one of those communities is creating a Better Future for themselves and their families. Carlina martinez has more. Reporter many people in this part of the area have little access to education before 2001. Brazil and missionary arial has worked in par paraguay for 40 years. It hurt me so much because i used to come here to the community center, and i noticed the Indigenous People were being discriminated against. I was especially sad that they had no access to school. Thatsat prompted the International Christian organization reach an acronym for effective aid to children, to establish a school here, 200 miles from the capitol. Today the school teaches 180 children. One serious problem they must overcome is the lack of water. The school has five 16,000 gallon cans, but that is not nearly enough when months go by without rain. They have found the best resource they have is pray. We had a prayer vigil once with all of the kids, both borders and day students. We did it with the whole community. By dawn it was raining. The reach school not only helps children, two or three times a year volunteers and dentists, and nursing students, conduct visits. The school becomes a hospital and pharmacy, with free medicine for all of the community. One of the volunteers is a former reach School Student herself. The only thing i can say is dont lose faith, and god will give you what you wish for. God answers prayer. I only asked him to give me a job, and he didnt just give me a job, but also the opportunity to study. He gave me more than what i asked for. Reporter the children who come to this school often come from dysfunctional home and are victims of domestic violence, sexual abuse, ma malnutrition and lack of education. The highest ambition for a girl is to become pregnant at 14 and become a concubine. But here they study the word, which is not only transforming the children, but also their parents. Change comes very slowly. But every year we see them mature. Girls say things like, no, im not going to just live with a man. Im going to study, finish college, have a career, and i will get married. They already have their minds set on something, they have goals for their lives. It takes about 15,000 a month to maintain the reach school, including the cost of food, education, and living expenses. Until three years ago, all those costs were covered by the reach office in spain. But because of the European Economic crisis, they only send 3,000 to 5,000 a month. The school would have to close its doors if it doesnt receive more financial support. Education is the most important thing for our country to improve, especially if the children learn about god. So what i say to others is become child sponsors to give these children a chance to grow and have a future. Carolina, martinez, cbn news. George thank you. Weve got tons of exciting stories of the church at work around the world. Go to our website at cwnews. Org. Well be back after this. Wendy and finally today, meet a pair of ladies who arent afraid to take a risk when it comes to spreading the gospel. George absolutely. Two Canadian Women recently stepped way out their comfort zone to raise support for asian missionaries. Something to raise donations for mexico. Janine and danny davis challenged friends to sponsor 100 buys kes fo buys kel bicycles in south asia. And then they boarded the plane for a parachute jump. For a 50second, 7,000 foot freefall at about 125 miles per hour. When they took the jump, they had pledges for 73 bicycles. Six minutes later, they were safely back on the ground. By the end of the week, 60 more bicycles were funded. They said the donated bicycles will help pastors go farther, faster, and reach more people with the love of jesus christ. Wendy would you do that . Jump out of a perfectly good airplane . George no. Are you kidding me. Maybe when i turn 70 or 75. Wendy lets talk about it then. It gives us some time. George thanks so much for joining us this week, folks. Wendy from all of us re at christian world news, goodbye and god bless you. I wanted to be in the military since i was a kid. I served in the United States air force. I served a total of 16 years. I was deployed 13 times. On my second deployment four bombs hit my vehicle. And at 19 years old, that was the first time i ever saw somebody die. Coming back, i was raging. I started having pretty horrible nightmares. I would wake up in middle of the night sweats. I started drinking a lot. I felt worthless. I guess i never recognized it in myself. Eventually, one day i just walked into the va hospital and said id like to see somebody. Dont suffer alone. Youve got to find that link with somebody that will make you let it go. It all starts with going to the va. Theres a whole community of veterans that just want to help you out. Its for the guys who couldnt come back, because theyre not here with their families.
