Fred every week Bruce rewrites a familiar tune in the style of a great composer we get one of our listeners on the phone who tries to name the hidden tune and the composer whose style Bruce is mimicking Paul Hanna is on the line from Tallahassee Florida Paul welcome to Petey Thank you my friend how letters So Paul what's your musical background Well I have a bachelor's degree in music and. Although I did do a career in it I did one in computers and I'm into one player. And are you the same Paul Hanna who did an arrangement of movement from a Mahler symphony for brass quintet that we played on p.t. You know I you know force group did a wonderful job and the Air Force Reserve brass quintets I believe it was well it was a beautiful arrangement thank you and well it's an honor to have you on the show it's an honor to be here well Bruce is about to play his piano puzzler will see if you can pick out the hidden tune and name the composer whose style Bruce is mimicking if you happen to get stuck on either one I actually don't know what's coming either so if need be we could brainstorm on this together Ok Ok Ok Paul Hanna Here's Bruce Adolph with your piano puzzler. Or a. Or. A . Rare or 2 are. Playing with Burke. Old. Coot a. Mole. Old Well that was lovely I was incredible. Paul what do you hear in that piano puzzler Well I didn't recognize the underlying composer's piece but I thought I heard mostly Shope Well it's very close they overlapped in time I was thinking of somebody else but then at the very beginning you know I said Yes Well that is that is who I had in mind if you're going to Sprong Yeah Ok well I heard I heard the 2 against 3 Yes well there's plenty of that yes it's very Brahms and Brahms is the answer. Ok Ok in the style of Your Highness Brahms excellent Now what about the hidden tune you know that was incredible I kept on hearing it and I said this is a melody I've heard before and it finally dawned on me which I'm inclined to not correct. Her. Wonderfully. Well you know it's right there but it doesn't seem like it's right there yeah it's in such a different musical context yeah especially in my face you know this thing. And it's all there and that becomes very different. Really when you broaden it out yes you know the harmonies it's a minor. Key but the tune is not minor. Harmonized in minor. And you know with the with the 2 against 3. I didn't get it into about you're almost done well you know that's pretty good because often have to play it 2 or 3 times so almost done is kind of great. Paul are you are you getting any help by any chance I mean any you know my my why. I was listening in the other line. Her name is Christine and she was a piano she's retired but she was a piano teacher but we always listen to the program and it's a turd T.-Max to see who can get it 1st oh my nicely done Christina are you on the line there and just being quiet yes I am. Well done the 2 of you nice work great team work. So I decline to knock the music in the style of Brahms this is one of those rare times when the tune is from one classical composer and it's written in this rewritten in the style of a different classical composer so nicely done Christine and Paul I decline a knock to musique re written as your Highness Brahms and Bruce now that we know can we hear the whole thing one more time sure sure. All. Old. Girl. Girl. Girl. Think I neckline enough to musique that melody by Mozart which in its usual context is so bubbly and fun and a boolean re written in the style of Johann is Proms with reflective autumnal quality this week piano puzzler by Bruce Adolf and the whole thing was puzzled out by Paul and Christina Hannah calling from Tallahassee Paul and Christine perfectly done that was great thank you thank you for the great to have you Paul and Christine how do you normally hear piano puzzlers w f s Q From Tallahassee Florida Paul and Christine thank you so much for playing our piano puzzler this week thank you thank you Fred and thank you Bruce thank you and Bruce I'll see you next week I Fred. Is. That. 1781 Mozart was 25 years old full of energy and ideas and optimism he had just moved to the big city of Vienna it felt full of possibilities and for one thing Mozart noticed that every fashionable home in Vienna had something in common he called his new home town the city of pianos. Mozart felt like this was perfect for him he was a fine pianist himself so he could write music that would attract people to his concerts then he could publish and sell that very same music in different versions for people to play at home he very quickly wrote 3 piano concertos pieces that he could play with a small orchestra and he made adaptations for piano and string quartet for people to play at home Mozart at his entrepreneurial best and let's hear Mozart's own miniature version of his Piano Concerto Number 12 hedge a movie have it shut the piano alongside the St Lawrence quartets and they added Doug Valley a double bass for this concert at the Spoleto Festival USA in Charleston South Carolina.
