And the service got underway to honor the life of miller, a city of North Las Vegas firefighter who died in the line of duty. This was after a fire call on september 23rdrd. His funeral is being held here at craig ranch regional park. Weve heard this afternoon several people who worked with him, who knew him well, who describe him as someone who is passionate about fire early in life. He joined the Fire Department in North Las Vegas when he was just 21. Here is one fellow firefighter who describes the type of person he will miss. We celebrate a man who was more an just a pillar of his community. But at the end of the day when it comes down to the fact that Yaphet Miller was a devoted husband, a loving father, a son, a brother, a friend. Right. Craig back here live. It was september 23rd that there was a fire call. There was a line of duty emergency, that fire call, that resulted in captain miller being hospitalized. Henrys Place Foundation was created to honor a Metro Sergeant who put his life on the line for a victim of Domestic Violence and his life was tragically taken. This is his wife dawn here to fill us in on an annual fundraiser thats happening next is something that for anybody who lived here, even myself, i wasnt here at the time, but i heard the story. It was a very tragic loss for the entire community. It was. I mean, henry was the first Police Officer in 18 years killed in the line of duty. So it was huge in our community to have that death, you know, and just the way it happened was so tragic you know. So it really affected everybody in the community. And since then everybodys come together to help fund our camp for kids. This past summer we brought kids out to camp at henrys place in utah. There are pictures. Every time i see the pictures i just get a big smile on my face. It was just such a blessing to finally have kids up there and know weve been working so hard for the last ten years to have our dream come true you know. So this coming sunday, next sunday, october 23rd, is our annual fundraiser. All the money that we raise goes to building the camp as well as and this next summer were going to have two weeklong sessions. And whats great about our camp is that its free to the kids. Michelle thats wonderful. Its something that nobody else in the community is doing for kids that cant afford to go to camp. So weve partnered with metro this last summer to identify the kids that we brought up there. Troy martinez says if law enforcement, Community Groups an especially reaching out to the young kids, that we will be able to curb the violence in our community. And thats what we do. Were one of those Community Groups. Were offering something that nobody else is doing. Michelle i think for most people when they think about going through what you went through, becoming a widow at such a young age and losing your husband in a tragic way, a lot of people might fall apart. But you channeled that into you i mean, what was it that sort of motivated you aside from trying to keep his mem awry live. Why a camp for kids. It was our dream. We had land in montana in escrow to build a camp. We were going to be moving up there. I called that lady the next day and told her henry was killed and she was like i cant believe you are calling me. I said this is our dream and this is something that i want to continue. So i mentioned it during his Funeral Service which was aired on every local and everybody heard and wanted to get involved. Michelle and they all jumped on board. So immediately the Community Came together and i said this is going to happen whether i want it or not. It wasover whel aming. Its been such a blessing ever since. Michelle ten years. Ow wou.
