Across the street from where im standing at the hotel, we had damage at it looks like a market right across the street from where us where the roof was blown off this building. Part of it still laying in the street. We have debris all across the street right now. This is just some of what were seeing here in our area. But people are breathing a sigh of relief because the worst has passed over u how much this is gonna cost and 1 Million People without power. Florida power and light crews are gonna work over the next few days, possibly weeks, definitely weeks, to try to restore that for everyone. Thats a sigh of relief that perhaps you dodged a bullet in daytona. Lets talk about signs of life. You are saying theres no power for so many. So are people starting to come back in, assess the damage and reporter yeah. Thats what we expect people to do as they do after most storms. We dont have we dont see anyone with power along this street. So people are gonna be starting to look at what is damaged and try to figure out how are we gonna be able to pay for this. I know that president obama declared a federal disaster, state of emergency, yesterday ahead of matthews arrival. Now as the storm heads north, people in the carolinas and South Carolina specifically charleston, they are bracing for whats to come. Matthew is now a category 2 hurricane with sustained winds of 110 miles per hour. Governor nikki haley of South Carolina saying that there is no time to evacuate. She warned people to get out ahead of time. Shes assaying no time to evacuate. Just time to hunker down. So for those people who are not advice from their governor. Thank you, sara. Stay safe. And Hurricane Matthew is not done. Its making its way up the coast now. Lets check in with your weather authority, Chloe Beardsley with where the storm is. Absolutely. In Daytona Beach, they are assessing damage after that storm passed and were still bracing for pretty severe conditions. You can see this very strong category 2 hurricane, the eye off the coast. Continuing to move up north and bringing a strong storm surge across the northeastern coastline of florida and now starting to move into georgia. As we get in closer, the strongest part of the hurricane is actually in the northeastern quadrant. However, were still seeing some heavy rainfall and strong winds along the coastline. You can see these bands of rain right here. Very powerful storm despite it weakening just a little bit. But it is continuing to move farther up north at a pace of about 12 miles an hour. Starting to get heavy rainfall. We have video from there. You can see thats not the video. But speaking of other video that we were taking, i was gonna show you a different video. But heres pictures people who have seen the impacts first hand across the florida coast. As it continues to move up northward, you can see very devastating conditions right here. Heavy rainfall, obviously some flooding along the coastlines right there. Were looking at very dangerous close when were seeing such a very strong hurricane impacting the coastline there. Thats why people are told to evacuate and certainly hunker down. Lets take a look at the graphics again. There is a look at that quick time lapse i was talking about but the track along the coastline gradually weakening as it continues to move along the coast hugging the carolinas and continuing to move. You can see off into the atlantic becoming less powerful looping around and possibly taking aim again for the bahamas. Temporary members of her family. The furry family was found starving in an abandoned home. Thats when pauley got the call. Her job is to nourish these cuties back to help and get them ready for their new home. The best part, taking an animal that comes to me scared a and injured and with a need and to be able to fill that need and send them back out into the world a whole animal is an pauley started volunteering with the Animal Foundation in memory of her dog gracie. She adopted her in 2005 but she passed away a few years ago. We decided that we wanted to instead of helping one dog this time, we wanted to help as many as we k thats when we decided to noster. There are a lot of pets that come into the shelter. She spends a lot of time taking them to the vet. Cars or other animals. Some, the owners give un. Monitoring their progress. I come to the vet every other week and spend a couple of hours here. And making sure they are healthy. Its my responsibility to make sure they are taken care of medically, they get their medicine on time. 81 pets, all dogs. In nearly three years. I can remember each one and the experiences that i had with each one. Were priorate appreciate all of our fosters but pauley always goes above and beyond. After six month esstill had the runny nose so a different vet took the xray and thats when they found the stick. He followed a rabbit and came out acting strange. You can see bringing a very strong storm surge to the northeastern portion of the florida coast, now starting to move into georgia. You can just see the major impacts from this storm bringing not only very gusty winds. Sustained winds from this system rate of 12 miles happen hour. The strongest portion of the storm is here in the northeast quadrant. You can see the strong bands from this system bringing very heavy rainfall. Now starting to impact the area ofsa. We have a time lapse here. Just over the past few hours of the very heavy rainfall. Take a look at that. This is at the airport. You can see very blustery conditions as well as the heavy rainfall. That continues across the area. Here is the track of the system. You can see it just off the coast of the carolinas. This storm will continue veering east into the atlantic making a downward turn. You can see it turning into a Tropical Storm still making headway for the becomes. For the bahamas. As it continues up the coastline, strong storm surge, 6 to 9 feet. Isolated areas may see 15 inches of rain and tornadoes may develop. Coming back home, had 63 degrees. It will be a calm night.
