White House Al Sharpton and guess who just denounced this Black Leadership Summit Al Sharpton that's what the peashooters part of the nose was all about Al Sharpton hasn't visited the White House. Moved in. That's a good thing. That's the up no the down note my poor Dodgers I guess I'm the last Brooklyn fan left every field is how low ground to me and I have the Dodgers go down 4 games to one to the Red Sox Well I guess such things happen. What can I say Ok to the phones we go Gabriel is on the line from Salinas Hello sir how are you doing. If you're talking about the courts Constitution trial and why it's not a trial a trial is regimented it's going to go through certain procedures and it's going to do it every time what I'm concerned about is the verdict and bounce off something like this and I'm talking about is last week there are a judge here who have T.-Max command of vigils indicted regularly on some heavy drug charges yet. One of them he released one without posting bail hearing system as it was a small misdemeanor that individual's been kidnapped and I imagine is in pieces across the desert land somewhere down in Southern California so I'm just wondering you know good try what some minute there's a lot of things that go into the trial that need to be worked on the d.a. Generally and a lot of high profile cases over charges cases we have the explanation that I just get of the judge releasing this federally indicted individual charges that carry a life sentence being from a jail so it's not that I'm concerned about and the beginning stages before a trial I think is going to be looked at Campbell I would I would answer that by saying every trial is not going to go the way you think it should every trial is not going to go the way I think it should now you presented some particulars of the case here. I and my or my other listeners only know what you've told us we don't know anything else about this there may have been any reason probably was a reason maybe the reason is one that you would not find adequate but nevertheless there is much more to this than you laid the for us just now. But once again the fact of the matter is in America we do have due process that is defined as a trial that the caller in the last hour. He was talking about a capital case and he was simply saying we don't need to have a trial now what he's talking about there is a lynching when you simply go to jail and get prisoners away we don't know we need we know this guy's guilty there's an oak tree Here's a piece a rope let's do it that is not legal and if you do that you have committed murder that that is legally murder that's a lynching and the the color same to well I guess he understood what I was telling him he said he did but he said I really don't agree I was thinking myself that's scary because if there's one thing in this country we all need to agree on it's that you do not take the law into your own hands the the thing is I'm this guy in the in the in the synagogue if he'd been shot and killed while he was in the act of doing is his thing that's not the same there are people who try to draw. Analogies there it's not that you're stopping somebody in the act once they are apprehended and this is why in this day and age I don't want them apprehended because I understand that there will never be an execution so I want them shot down and killed on the spot it's the it's not as good an alternative I'd much rather have a fair trial and an execution that's what an ideal world would produce but lacking that. Burning him down to the ground as he stands is the best alternative. Well a number of your police agencies locally and across the nation have done just exactly what you explained right there they take out people they kill them they don't shoot for a lower limb they don't shoot to wound they shoot and unload the entire clip and this is happening number times here in Salinas was not just one shot it's a number of shots to kill the person so they did do that which is explaining it's a convenient way right to save money in a trial but those are the. Also it saves innocent lives because some of those people might hit the streets again at which point innocent lives are in danger right now I want to look at something like Judge John Phillips who is a high county supervisor who I know for a fact that individual to prison for a DUI There was a number of DUIs and part of the sentence didn't require but the wiser on this individual this isn't in 2015 here we're speaking about another excuse me 2012 kids are less he sent to prison why would you need to give raffle last year. Because when he did people to drive a car again Charlie. Did wait a 2nd. You have you cut me off list to me what I'm sorry. I'm not. Trying to get a cookie cutter process you can't go wrong. You were going to running and going to test your cat like you have. To try to get a good one used. It's a common sense thing on some of this and you know the ridiculous. Well Gabriel that's happened ever since our republic was founded the way to do something about it on a local level we have judges up for reelection and I stand accused just a little while ago a lady called up the what do you what about the judge as I really don't know because I haven't I haven't done what I should do and dug into the records of these people as I don't know who they are or what they stand for or whether one of them is one of the people who would who would know our murderer something like that which I frankly think. But nevertheless there was a time in California when 3 members of the California State Supreme Court were voted off the court in one night. They were up for reelection and majorities of the people of California said no we don't want these people on the court anymore and they were off. So it's very serious and very real and. As I say I was my my go to guy on this is is out of commission right now. Maybe Dean Sutton will call that and we can find out something from him in the meantime Gabriel thank you very much for the call and we are up against a break so let's take that will be back with Art who's calling from Watsonville and after that we'll be talking with you for 7 and 1080 is the number this is Larry from those I archery we have a small archery store where everything in the world he could walk compound curves wavin have a crossbow Are we sure like you to come in and do your shopping with us if you check our prices you'll find it were comparable to Internet and killer box stores because we're local you can come and feel touch and see before you buy we have a new range only 14 yards but you'll find that we can do French kuning we can also give you paper kuning and we can also set your boat with a con a graphic whatever you need to come by and see us we also give archery lessons children we take them as low as 4 years old we offer our lessons as low as 15 dollars an hour you can buy the lessons as a gift your kids and we can do up to 4 people at a time visit our website our Tree Shop got our phone number is 831-346-6156 Visit our website goal is our Tree Shop guy. Part of the guard and his jazz a pager is a small select group and you killings the orchestra doing never heard of Stumpy Jones I know what you're saying Didn't the full band also record stumpy Jones Yes As a matter of fact they did and so you need both versions because although the same song they're different and they're both great God. This one is a much lighter sound to it the full band has really hammered you of the head which I kind of like art from once until Thank you for calling so you're on the radio Oh that's Mark Oh Mark I'm sorry says your art Mark welcome. Call me things call me. I get it thank you Mark actually I'm not so right now could California out the beautiful Sacramento Bell Ah. When. That. Suited him at the synagogue there is precedence to this and it's different how the media's handling it and I'm thinking back to 2009 when Major Nadal Hasan shot up Fort Hood and he killed 13 people and wounded 30 others no time did the media at that time lay the blame on President Obama even though this shooting also had political and social implications and why. But the media said it was just an act of a single lone crazy person in fact. Workplace violence was the term that was used workplace violence not either I don't know if you'd forgotten that or not but yes I remember that and that was workplace violence and here's another example of the fellow who should have stopped breathing and he still breathing I know now I know that and know that he should have been placed before a firing squad or hang or whatever the hell the military after all is a military officer so they have their own ways of carrying out executions maybe calling the headsman with these acts whatever the point is that this guy should long ago have developed a 1st hand acquaintance with Beatle Bob. Correct maybe they're going to put these 2 on ourself together for us or allies but I think when I go I don't want that I do not want to pay for their upkeep when it's somebody like this who we know I mean beyond any possible not reasonable doubt no doubt what so ever then I'm all in favor of an execution and both these cases there's no doubt who committed the crime that's right this case is killed somewhere amount of people on our unarmed people army. That's right again like you said they called it an act of workplace violence charism So the individuals who survived not receive Purple Hearts because it was not a battlefield combat injury. And again but their political social implications President Obama just got that from us mid east apology tour explaining the Middle East how horrible the United States was it isn't because of all bad things happening over there and this but the Spartan major not also had Assad had I don't know what causes all of this weekend to do what he did we don't know but again the media at that time did not blame President Obama for the massacre at Fort Hood as they are implicating President Trump at this time Ok Mark let me ask you something you've just made a very clear point here. Are you would tempting to tell me that the major media in this country the major newspapers the major television networks are you attempting to tell me that there is some kind of bias in their presentation of news or you would tempted to tell me that they are not fair and even handed in the way they present news to the people is that what you're saying to be gambling in Casa Blanca. Shocked shocked. They have that's Claude Raines as Inspector Renault. Captain Renault pardon me Yeah yeah my point of course you are clearly. It's one more example of something that we live with every day I did I mentioned earlier in the program the putz who delivers the papers gave me a New York Times again today and it's it's really funny to read except that it's so tragic there's a lot of people who read that and think that it's honest news well let me let me give you let me give you an example in my view we haven't even talked about this program the biggest story over the weekend I mean grain of the synagogue murder was terrible but that's only one city one small group of people this affects the largest nation in Latin America and tens of millions of human beings Brazil conducted a presidential election over the weekend. And the guy who won is well if if if he holds true to his campaign rhetoric he may wind up being the Pinochet of Brazil. And if he is that will mean a couple of things Number one he will round up a few of the usual suspects. And we won't see them again but number 2 he will turn that country's economy. All the way around he will produce prosperity he will maintain and enhance democratic institutions and he will put Brazil on a path. To be everything that Venezuela today is not. But if you put read the front page of The New York Times you'll learn that this far right wing extremists has just been elected President Brazil and oh my oh my what are we going to do. The 1st thing off the private industries Amber. And. I'm going to. Run when Venezuela. And the other. Multinational oil and other colony collapse. The starts So Brazil looking at. Well Brazil's oil industry Petro bras has been nationalized for decades and indeed in the past they've had presidents of Brazil when this was their entire program all were going to nationalize the oil industry well. That hasn't worked out very well for them either Now I don't know politics being what they are I don't know if both Sonora will be able to privatized bras or not probably not on the other hand I believe that he will be able to make a company that enters into joint ventures with with major oil companies which would lead to enhanced efficiency and profitability in other words a higher standard of living for the Brazilian people which is his basic promise so we'll have to stand by and see what happens but once again this is big news and it's not being certain we didn't talk about it earlier today but I'm glad you bring it up Mark because Brazil has just elected a new president who promises to take it in the right direction and we'll have to see how far and what results it shows. I think. That will be a good start it could be another. I would love to see that she like today is the most prosperous nation in Latin America per capita income is in the $25000.00 range which is not nearly what we have here but it's much higher than any other Latin American country and this is due to the economic and political foundations laid by a still Pinochet during his he was a dictator and he took power by military force this guy Bolsa narrow has been voted so he has legitimacy that Pinochet never had let's see what he does with it it's 129. And lastly in state news an Amber Alert was issued across California over the weekend the alerts were 4 year old around to Mark Maria Lopez. The c.h.p. Says she was abducted by her mother 21 year old as were in Lopez from Vancouver Washington on October 25th rounds as described as Hispanic with long hair employee why is her mother is described as Hispanic female 5 feet tall 130 pounds with black hair and brown eyes the suspect was last seen driving a 2005 Chevy Cobalt with a Washington license plate number p l k 1552 they're believed to be headed to Mexico and it is $132.00 in time to return to the Charles Freeman program. From when I was a small boy a not yet fully grown and my mother would play me Duke Ellington records course I always loved really fast loud stuff and Duke Ellington just plenty of that but he also just lots of stuff like this stuff in a minor key. Very blue ink. And I loved it all my life this is solace written by Duke Ellington it also has the subtitle lament for a lost love. I've often said how say it again there are 3 types of orchestras there are white bands black bands and Duke Ellington over and above everything. Thank you Mr Allen and Barney the guards jazzer taters a small group out of Mr Alexander's band for the bumper music we're using today 479-1080 is the telephone number here 479108. 0 lines are open right now if you'd like to take up part of this last half hour of today's program I would just love talking with you Ace Hardware stores help us bring you this radio program where we get together with News Talk every afternoon between noon and 2 manual and Carlos Rodriguez in Watsonville started off 20 some odd years ago with a single hardware store. And now they have 6 Ace Hardware stores that they own and manage the reason well they do a great job of serving customers so great that customers come back again and again and again they make it a habit to shop at Ace Hardware because they know that every time they do they get great service. And selection. And that keeps them coming back time and time again because that's what they want and if they know they're going to get it from the Rodriguez brothers and why take a chance going any place else doesn't make a lot of sense so what happens once again they make it a habit to shop Ace Hardware they do it again and again and they tell their friends and that's what I'm doing today I'm telling all of you my friends that when you want something for home garden indoor outdoor work whatever go to your local Vegas brother's Ace Hardware store to get that item. Because you will find it you'll find a great price and the people who will wait on you and help you are dedicated to making sure that your experience at that store is perfect. Try your local Ace Hardware store there is a to get to in Gilroy you'll find one on 1st Street in Salinas on North Sanborn in Marino our Reservation Road in freedom corner freedom Boulevard and Green Valley Road and 2 locations in Watsonville downtown on Main Street right next to the rest of our hotel and in the East Village Shopping Center stores are open Monday through Friday 8 to 8 Saturdays and Sundays 8 to 7 Rodriguez brothers Ace Hardware stores. Ok we have an open border right now so I will recap a little bit well I'll just add a little icing to the cake I opened my program today by saying that a shooter like this guy who pulled his number at that synagogue and in Pittsburgh should be given a fair trial and executed I firmly believe that I believe that in the case of capital crime where there is no doubt of who is guilty execution is a perfectly. Acceptable thing to do it will save the public a lot of money do you want to support this guy 46 years old you want to pay to keep him in prison for another $30.00 or 40 years that will cost a lot. And also there is a deterrent value and please don't tell me that capital punishment is not a target. The reason people say that is because well where they have capital punishment they still have version crime so it doesn't deter everybody no it doesn't I concede that. You what if it gets hurt even one person. If it prevents even one potential malefactor from indulging in this sort of behavior. Then God bless it. Now there's the question problem how do we prevent innocent people from being executed and I earlier in the program I said we can do this you noticed maybe across the country Illinois I guess it was a few years ago the governor commuted the sentence of everybody who was on death row said oh there's problems with all of these I don't know what the hell Illinois uses for a system to decide who gets the death penalty or not. I don't know that I know how California used to do it and our system maybe you need. It was a really very simple and logical system worked very well. Here's how the story Suppose you were arrested for a capital crime murder Ok you're sent to trial obviously well a trial you're found either guilty or innocent if you're found innocent of course you're released and you walk free if you're found guilty of a capital crime you then go to a 2nd trial. You say wait a minute what if you've already been found guilty the 2nd trial is called a penalty trial. This is how California has administered capital punishment over the years 1st are you guilty or innocent if you're innocent so long if you're guilty then we decide what penalty you get. Remember now in the penalty trial doesn't find you guilty or innocent you're already guilty herder. But what are the circumstances where is this accident. Was it self-defense. Defense You may have even better quit at the 1st phase the point is are there are extenuating circumstances are there any orating circumstances all of that is what goes into the penalty trial that you receive if you're a capital offender here in California. And not everybody who goes to that trial gets the death sentence. The court at the penalty phase has a number of alternatives they can send you to execution they can sentence to life imprisonment and of course in California life imprisonment usually meant that in 7 years you came up for parole you might not get paroled but it was a possibility. The point being people sentenced to death in California were guilty. Absolutely certainly and probably of a more heinous crime than a simple murder. Right now we have several 100 people I think it's something like 800 people awaiting execution and same question it's ridiculous it's a joke. If I were governor we'd start running them through the smoke out. If you took one a day to take years to administer justice to all these people. And everybody would be calling me every name in the book. And I'd be saying look how much money I'm saving the taxpayers and we're eliminating the chance that any of these thieves will ever see daylight again. Would I review them yeah I would to make absolutely sure that every single person on death row fit the definition of this guy Bowers or of the that the offender Jennifer called in earlier I think or name was Jennifer called in and talked about her father who'd been killed by a guy who came in and started shooting and she in that case no doubt of who's guilty. And there are many cases where it's not a matter of oh well we think or he was there at the time no we know beyond any doubt not reasonable doubt any doubt at that point pull the lever. And final thing I don't know of any case in California where an innocent person was executed. I believe that our system of 1st trial and then a penalty trial has effectively prevented that the penalty phase does not administer capital punishment if they're not dead sure that it's merited nor should it ever be administered and leisure dead sure that it's marriage in short and they want capital punishment but I am not interested in any innocent person ever suffering execution is that possible yes yes it's possible it is possible that a few people who should be executed might not be. I can live with that. But the idea that an innocent person would go to the gas chamber that I will not put up with. And again you tell me that can't be done I tell you yes it. Ok let's take some phone calls I don't know Mark this one from Scott's Valley Hello sir. Charlie So you just made yet again another compelling argument why you should run for governor. I tell you what I tell you what. I think if campaign for governor which we have not seen for some years costs about $60000000.00 you come up with the dough and I'm Your Man All right well I'm about $59.00 and I'm a lot of change short So anyways. I wanted to follow up with you I called last week about the I'm shifting gears a bit but about the. The bomb devices that were mailed out to all the different Democratic leaders and everybody yeah they cut that chump in Florida and it looks like he's the one who did it and it looks like he's a lone wolf and I came out of that looking like a complete idiot Well I did not my point but I prefer one that doesn't happen very often I was right so I'm going to toot my own or and I told you that they were going to catch him very quickly and within 24 hours of of that they got him and you know I just want to kind of look back on this because boy it was really hot and heavy opinion on every side of the issue and you know my my whole point in the beginning was that you know whoever and speculating is fun we all know that that's what makes good talk radio and all that good stuff but you know 50 percent of the people came out with egg on their face and at the end of a day we got a wacko on one side of the political spectrum that was just quite frankly in India and I had a feeling that what it was going to be it was going to be some grand conspiracy theory or a for a large effort by a team of people to throw the election got a wacko out. They're just. Being there was on hand and I'm glad they caught him and I'm glad. And you can add one more thing it was no pleasure for me to have to come in here Friday with my say saying out and admit to everybody what a moron I can be but I didn't I didn't hear you I tried to do on Friday and I only heard was the debate I was listening but well I did it during the 1st half of the 2nd half of the program was given over to a paid priest in Taishan by a candidate for Congress but you know during the 1st hour when I was on my own program I I I said something like You know here's a nice delicious dish of crow hand me and I could afford. I mean you know you give me the ketchup it'll help kill it taste. Well good are you and you know I hope that everybody when we see these things in the future too. Creation. And realize. I mean there's no way that this person or one way or another was going to be individual at the end of the day if that's the case then it doesn't matter what side of the political aisle or she is. A crazy person Mark you're right about that and I I really. I can't tell you how embarrassed I was. I'm glad you called me and so I had the opportunity to say that to you personally but the lesson I take away from it is just the one you gave a brief through your nose as my father used to say. All right Charlie. Appreciates you and thank you so much for what you do every day. Mark thank you for the call I'm I'm delighted I look forward to your next visit It's 146. Ok once again my computer here is taking a vacation so let's just go straight back to the phones t.r. Is on the line from Monterey Hello sir how are you oh I am great trial by yourself excellent and thank you for the call. I do think your having to consume a crow sandwich might be a little premature but why the waiter. Why would you say that it looks pretty cut and dried from this at this point. I think there are some unanswered questions makes me kind of speculate that perhaps this individual is not acting alone for instance how did he obtain all of the mailing addresses for these very high prominent private you would expect it to be private people for one thing the other thing there's been some issues about the condition of his van and the you know all of his propaganda and such now let it feel a bit more like Ok How were the records show on how long is how that van How did you purchase it you know if if you saw that event for years that's one thing but if you just had it like for a month or something are there something a little shaky there on how might have been purchased. Anyways it's just the just the meat to me there's still a few few questions where may not quite be as it appears but I'm actually calling about the capital punishment Ok. So you mentioned that some people say. The death penalty is not necessarily a deterrent Well now now that's true it isn't necessarily a deterrent it isn't well it isn't a deterrent in every case and. True. I want to make the point that it's the ultimate deterrent because once the death penalty is successfully issued with an individual that person will not be able to kill anyone or commit any other crimes ever again Ok that's another issue it is a guarantee it is a guarantee against recidivism Yes That's that's that's that's obvious on the face of it when I say deterrent I'm not talking in that sense I'm talking in the sense that what effect will this execution have on other people who may be contemplating similar Mal affections and I know I know I know what you mean by I had a hunch you did that what to make clear to our listeners I understand that not every murder will say oh gee there's capital punishment I better not do this but some of them will and even if it's only one in 10 if that many people can be dissuaded from committing acts of capital murder by capital punishment that I'm all for it. The other issue is a lot of anti-capital punishment. Advocates will make an argument that well gee we'll just have this person walk in just walk up and kill for the rest they're not life and they can never harm anyone else again and so forth and I call law I call b.s. On that because 1st off. Someone can always you can always have a you know liberal governor someone come in and basically you know just do an early release on somebody the other thing is they can always potentially escape and also the correctional officers and the prison staff and all but could certainly be harmed by one of these people. And the only way the other thing the only way to guarantee security would be to place these people in permanent solitary You know some place like Pelican Bay on steroids and at that point arguably you have a bigger 8 to minute issues in you look capital punishment means that cruel and unusual punishment acts what I'm talking about that's what the 8 The men. Now there's no way that you can call the death penalty cruel or unusual I mean it's been used for centuries but the idea of this exotic esoteric confinement that deprives you of all human association frankly if I had my choice between either going to get gene or spending the rest of my life like that hey bring on the blade Jack I'm ready. You know I think I want to say is it's not just the workers in the prison that might be impacted by an inmate. If you look at how frequently cell phones and things like that are smuggled into the prisons and al the special like the gang leaders still have communications out to there there are many ins and such out there was there is still much power if you're going to have people who are who are incarcerated for life with no possibility of parole then you have an incarcerated in such a way and this is how draconian it would have to be no you ain't getting no cell phone there ain't no smuggling going on you are in you are alone that. You mean you're going to say they can't have conjugal visits somehow privacy time with their. I don't want to have are you going to have it's a you ever hear of most extreme elimination challenge. And what a moving rendition of the old conjugal visit by just. Looks like someone's got some feedback form like. What a show what a show some of the greatest television ever most extreme elimination challenge available many of them on You Tube Have fun Bill says here you want to talk about King Kong are you for him or against him. Great show. I heard you talk about King Kong he's going to be on tomorrow night the original movie I guess 933 with Fay Wray is going to be on the Ted Turner was a t.m.c. Turner Classic Movies Yes Yes You know there I have heard I don't know if this is true or not I have heard that there are actually been remakes. And I don't understand why. The 1st one was the best the 1st one is perfect one of movies done right you don't remake it. It's what it really is bunched up and you take Maltese Falcon is a good example everybody seen multi-focal and Humphrey Bogart Sam Spade that was Warner Brothers 3rd try. They made it back in 131 with Ricardo Cortez and they made it in 136 or so they rewrote it so that Sam Spade was a chick boy what a hero that was anyway in 1040 I guess it was John Hewson came in and said look I want to take another whack at Maltese Falcon and you know knock yourself out so he and he said he secret was I followed the book Can you imagine that I followed the book and he made a picture that's well frankly no one has tried to remake Maltese Falcon since 1940 and there's a reason. They were talking to Farai and she said she made over 7080 movies but King Kong as always when it sticks out so she said I guess that's my best leading man. Yeah the thing is that most performers would love to have had a role in some film that becomes utterly iconic. I called about a year ago you had Eagle Scout on your show and I called and I said My found I'm one of 4 Eagle Scouts had only 3 remember me about a year ago but I just bought a home here and what's in Bell in the garage hadn't been open in 30 years. Back 70 eight's about 2 and a half foot tall Now I know after $78.00 they came out LP which is a long playing describe the difference between a $45.78 of an LP and I'll take my off the air Ok real good thank you Charles I'll see at the airport I had lunch Ok that sounds like a winner to me let me see here 70 eight's. Come into sizes usually 10 inch 10 inch diameter there are some 12 inch ones usually classics but the standard size for $78.00 is 10 inches $45.00 the standard size is 7 inches so they are smaller also a $45.00 is easily identified with a very large center hole instead of a little center hole that's only like oh a quarter of an inch it's like almost a full inch much bigger $1.45 right away 7 inch record with a great big hole in the. L P's long play records are mostly 12 inch instead of 10 inch they generally have cuts on them you know 123456 maybe as many as sometimes as many as 8 cuts to a side and that's the number of selections on each side on 70 eight's you only get one selection on each side so it's just a solid groove all the way across and of course 70 eight's have a much larger groove. L.P.'s and 40 five's L.P.'s and 40 five's feature a micro groove which is let me see I guess about one 5th one 6th the size of a standard group and that's one of the reasons why things get so much more on a side smaller group slower speed that's how it works thank you for the phone call .
