And this is not over yet because the group opposing prop 205 to legalize Recreational Marijuana says it is going to appeal the judges ruling to the arizona supreme court. Heres what prop 205 would do. It would allow adults who are at least 21 in arizona to have up to one ounce of marijuana and grow up to six Marijuana Plants at home. Like recreational already on the books in colorado, washington, oregon, alaska and washington, d. C. Opponents, arizonans for responsible drug policy, tried to convince a superior court judge to get rid of 205 even though it easily surpassed the more than 150,000 voter signatured needed to get on the ballot, Maricopa County attorney Bill Montgomery one of those opponents who wanted prop 205 off the ballot. Week trying to convince the judge the petitions 100word summary was misleading, but the judge flatly rejected their argument, ruling they knew what they were signing and its up to the voters to decide. Supports are happy with the judges ruling. This is not a surprise. We knew going into this that this lawsuit was frivolous in every single regard. Itwas ultimately a waste of the courts dollars, and the courts ruled against the prohibitionists in every single regard on every single merit. They were found to be wrong. Its exactly as we expected. Reporter now, we received a statement from arizonans for responsible drug policy. They are the opponents of prop 205, and they said, quote, we thank judge gentry for her time but we respectfully disagree with her ruling. Maintain this initiative perpetrates a fraud on the electorate for the reasons outlined in our complaint and in our oral argument, and we will be seeking an appeal on the ruling we received today. An investigation under way this afternoon after Phoenix Police officers shoot and kill a man. An officer was checking out a suspicious car. It was at a park near 20th street and thomas. A man approached him. They got into a fight, and police say the suspect was trying to get the officers gun, and thats when a detective showed up on the scene to help. Both officers fired their guns, striking the suspect. The officer was taken to the hospital with a broken nose, but hes already been released. A driveby shooting near camelback and i17. A man was walking on the frontage road there. He heard some shots being fired and started walking away when he it hit him in the lower body. He was taken to the hospital and is expected to be okay. Police in glendale are looking for a hitandrun driver this afternoon. A car struck a motorcycle in the northbound lanes of grand and 54th avenue this morning. The motorcyclist was thrown on to the hood, and then into the windshield. Taken to the hospital in pretty bad shape, the driver ran off. Grand avenue is shut down this morning, but has reopened. Peoria avenue shut down for hours this morning after a car slams into a cvs, and look at this scene here. The driver was badly hurt, taken to the hospital. Bricks are everywhere, a couple of holes in the building, look at the damage to the car. Police dont know why the car veered off of the road in the first place. Someone tried to make a left turn in front of an officer who ended up with bumps and bruises. He was treated at the scene and released. People were taken to the hospital for evaluation. Court is hosting a Child Support arrest work group. Anybody who can pay one month of their back Child Support and agree to ten future hearings got their warrants quashed. There were more than 1,300 Child Support arrest warrants in Maricopa County. The workshop also provided help with resum . S and is job interviews. After three days on the run, the registered sex offender who slipped away from pinal county deputies during a standoff is back behind bars.
