Now, they were called here for an armed robbery. Heres what we know so far. According to officers, this could be a deal of some kind gone bad, this happening at a closed legal Hookah Lounge here. There was some kind of private card game going on. We are told one twice in the stomach. He was awake when he was transported to the hospital and is expected to be okay. Heres the part thats a little wo worrisome. We have two suspects still on the loose, described as two black male suspects in their twenties, one in a white shirt, one in a black sheet. We are still collecting all of the pieces of the puzzle, a lot of officers collecting data, running tests. Well keep you updated on the the month of september kicking a you have with a visit from the monsoon. Tracking a large wall of dust as it moved in from the southwest earlier today. This is what the dust storm looked like from earlier today, very thick dust as we take a ground shot, very hard to see. Right here you see the danger of driving in a dust storm where you cant see the car in front of you. Its almost like thick fog, if youre in San Francisco or Something Like that. This is on state route moved through and a fox 10 viewer took this video with their phone. Tough driving conditions there. And some areas even got some rain. This is near chaparral and route 101. That storm came in of course just in time for the evening rush hour as it seems to do lately, making for a it tough commute home for some people out there. It rolled in very strong, it did not fall apart until it really got upon us here and kicked up some pretty good dust upon us. There it is, right there, as it rolled in earlier tonight. Take a look, half inch south of phoenix here, you can see anything from just less than a half an inch to a little more than a half an inch, look at this, 1. 7, so some pretty heavy rains coming down off west and a little bit south of us here. Heres three hundredths of an inch, we have a half inch back over by buckeye, we have a half an inch east of phoenix over here, in one of the harder hit areas of the area, and then you can see here, about a half an inch north of apache junction, an inch and a half coming down there. Still some moisture in the air. Well take a look at that. Hey, we have got a hurricane down in the south, in the gulf, and well take a look at that as well coming up. Tonight, hurricane hermine battering the state of florida. Look at that surf, the hurricane making landfall just a little a while ago as a category 1 storm, this hurricane coming up through the gulf of mexico. Everyone was wondering what was going to happen with this storm. Would it turn into a hurricane . And it certainly did, hitting parts of the panhandle and North Central florida as well. Fox reporter nathalie poz apalachicola florida tonight. How bad is right now . Is it as calm as it has been, or you havent seen the worst of it yet nathalie . Kari, you know, its been kind of touch and go out here. Right before hurricane hermine landfall, we were dealing with very heavy rains and very heavy winds. Every now and then we get a gust of wind. We are in the downtown area of with out here. Many businesses here did close their doors earlier today, put up that plywood, and also put those sandbags in place. Now, one of the things that is of great concern here to the Franklin CountyEmergency Management center is life threatening surge and flooding. I can tell you that they did already close several roads here in the county due to flooding. And they are also concerned with the storm surge, its expected about six to nine feet. There was also a mandatory evacuation from earlier today of the barrier islands. Some people decided to get out. Others said, you know what, we are going to stay and we are going to ride out the storm. Its been more than ten years since florida has seen a hurricane hit, but the residents here tell me, some of them tell me that they have lived here for such a long time. For some of them, this is home. And they are storm pros. So they were prepared and ready for this hurricane. So we were driving over here a started to see that tree debris on the roads, also dealing with Power Outages here tonight. Actually, the right here, the block over to us, that actually just went pitch black. We lost the power there. And also about a mile away from where we are at a hotel just down the road here, that hotel lost power earlier today. So even though hurricane hermine is here, it does not mean that it will be over. We still have several hours of this, and then again what with a storm cleanup, the debris, the flooding, and the power outage. Kari, ill send it back to you. They have definitely seen worst, but i imagine that people are getting prepared just in case they are going to be kind of out of commission for the next few days with Power Outages, et cetera. Reporter yes, kari. Some of the residents here were telling me that, you know, again they have been through this before. They know what to expect when it this is a category 1, so some folks did take it lightly. Like i said, they decided that they were going to ride out the storm, that they were not going to leave, but they did have those supplies in place, the water, the batteries, flashlights, weather radios, all of those things that we normally see fly off of the shelves during a hurricane. I can tell you though that there wasnt any major shortage, at least in the areas that we went to, of water and batteries and things like that. We only saw sign posted on the outside that said they were out of flashlights. But for the most part, i mean, you know, people were prepared here. And i tell you we have even had several residents just make their way through this area wanting to get a peek at the storm, and theres even a restaurant that just closed their doors a few minutes ago. They are the only business that stayed open here in the down the area all right. Reporter so there are several people now making their way out of the restaurant. But they were prepared. Well, stay safe down there, nathalie. I know youll be covering it. And to everybody in florida, hopefully this one passes over without too much damage. And over the opposite coast, the Hawaiian Islands being threatened by hurricane lester, much of the state under hurricane watch as it approaches the island chain. It appears to be moving away from hawaii, it brought strong su out power to hundreds of people in the Hawaiian Islands. Developing in chandler tonight, investigating suspicious house fires. Now investigators are trying to figure out who is starting those fires. Police are Holding Meetings with concerned neighbors. Danielle miller joins us live from the neighborhood of chandler and mcclintock with the latest, danielle . Behind me is the last fire where firefighters thought it to be suspicious. They say that it happened on sunday, and they are also telling us that this is one of the biggest fires and caused the most damage out of all of the fires being called suspicious at this time. Their fear, along with several other people that we talked to here in this community is that these fires could get worse. Chandler fire and Police Officials holding a Community Meeting tonight, one of the main topics of discussion, four to five suspicious fires that have happened near chandler ble month. It started at the beginning of august. It started small. The last couple there was a fence fire that grew kind of a little larger. It didnt get to the house. Reporter the last one happening sunday here on tyson street. Officials say this fire caused the most damage. It started on the back patio and moved to the home. Luckily, the home was vacant. I was woken up by the police there was a fire behind me and i needed to be ready to leave my house. He and other neighbors have had growing concerns since the first fire. All right after dark, usually between dark and most recent one was about midnight. Reporter officials arent telling us what links the fires or what deems them suspicious. Leeber is just hoping it stops before getting worse. I have two young children. My neighbor has two young children, and they are very close to our houses. Its scary. Im g about it. Reporter and fire officials are asking anybody with any information on these fires to call police. Danielle, thank you very much. Sentencing day today for a woman who was caught on camera plowing over her boyfriend with her car. Misty wilke, she says she ran him over right here. It was tough to watch, because as bad as that crash looks, that man was seriously injured, but he did survive. Wilke left the scene but she eventually turned herself into police, and today she apologized in court for her actions. She was sentenced though to six years in prison. Avondale Police Arrest a man accused of stealing thousands of dollars from a veterans organization. Police say that kirk davis has been the president of the pat tillman memorial vfw post for the past two that time he stole more than a hundred thousand dollars. Davis, he is facing forgery and embezzlement charges. Well you could call this a great example of instant karma. O after a Scottsdale Police officer finds himself the victim of a property crime, someone stole that officers atv over the weekend, but they didnt get it away for long. And the person who caught them, they stole from. It wasnt a good way for the officer to start his week, his brandnew atv stolen overnight from his home sunday. The next morning, i woke up and it wasnt there. It was kind of weird being on the other side of law enforcement, having to make a report of my property that was taken. The officer was out on patrol later that night when something caught his road near scottsdale and shea, an atv driving in front of you i thought to myself, this cant be happening to me. Once i ran the vin, i confirmed that it was stolen and the registered owner was myself. The officers body camera recording as he drives the atv. You can hear the officers reaction as he finds his stolen hours earlier. Its kind of a one in a million chance that i was able to recover my fourwheeler that was stolen from me. Reporter 27yearold jose rivera was arrested for stealing the atv and is facing felony charges for receiving stolen property and possession of paraphernalia. A little bit of moisture still around the state here. Slight chance of a shower in the forecast. Look at that. That was the earlier one that rolled through. And there was some pretty good moisture with it, anywhere from just a little less than a half an inch to an inch and seven hundredths. Yeah, it got up there pretty good in a few areas, but you can see this map is giving you a good look at this thing, just kind of wearing out, a lot of it drying out right around the city, but certainly not around the state. We have a little bit of active weather up north still area. We saw some pretty good numbers up here as well from a half an inch to an inch and three quarters in some areas. So it really did pick up some pretty good moisture. Still a little bit coming through. We get over to the east valley here, and you can see some moisture rolling through that as well. And then down in the southeast, some moisture coming through, but once again things drying out very rapidly, and the city looking pretty good at this hour, even though, as i forecast. 104 degrees for the high today. In goodyear, it was 100 degrees. In glendale,102, 101 in scottsdale, and 102 in chandler. Other numbers around the state, sedona at 86, 84 in payson, 75 at show low, and 103 at gila bend. You see some 104s and some 103s kind of mixing it up around the valley as well. It will be a little warmer in some areas. This is a hurricane in the gulf states right now, hermine, and it is rolling up towards jacksonville. At the present time it is 40 miles southsoutheast oft tallahass tallahassee. That is where the eye is right now. There have been 80mileanhour winds in the area. We have been looking at 10212 inche 10212 inches ten to 12 ifens of rain. You see it rolling up into the charleston area by friday with 75mileanhour winds. You see it rolling up past raleigh and just south of new york with winds getting into the 60mileanhour range, so it is no longer a hurricane at that point in time. So you see it rolling up and down that seaboard with still quite a bit of strength and moisture wrapped around it. 86 overnight here, 101 degrees for tomorrow. As things dry out just a little temperatures down a little bit and stay there. Watch your kids around water. Why you leave a gun with two little kids around, i dont know. But up next, neighbors reacting to the news that a twoyearold boy, a toddler, was fox 10 news is back. A twoyearold phoenix boy recovering in the hospital tonight after getting a hold of a gun and accidentally shooting himself in the leg. And police say the toddler found that gun inside drawer in his familys home. Steve krafft has more. Why you leave a gun with two little kids around, i dont know. This was the scene last night as officers rushed to a home near 40th avenue and peoria northwest phoenix. Phoenix police say the little boy found a handgun in a drawer and shot himself. The bullet hit the twoyearolds upper leg and groin. The neighbor says the accident happened in front of another child in the house who is six years old. A neighbor could tell something was wrong and rushed over to hospital. I was in the house in the back, and my dogs were carrying on and carrying on. I usually dont look, i pulled ran out real quick. I looked over there and the little boy was in the living room hanging out and screaming and screaming, and the grandpa was there, and he said whats wrong joe . He said, i just shot myself. For three hours, she thought her son might be kidnapped. She didnt know where she is. She finally gets a call from jetblue that the boy is in boston, and she speaks with him. He arrives a few hours later at jfk. Jetblue is reviewing this incident, and they also refunded the flights, and they offered the families credit towards future flights. I would be out of my mind.
