In other news ash valley man is home from the hospital today after spending four and a half months there. He was struck by lightning while out riding his horse. Not too far from his familys ranch. And today he got to meet the man who is credited with saving his life. Danielle miller joins us live with more. This man has been in the hospital for four and a half months after being struck by that lightning and he was just released yesterday. Today he met the man his family calls their guardian my family, thank you both for coming for me, coming from my heart, thank you. Its been a long and emotional four and a half month for jaime santana. Today just one day after being released from the hospital, he is meeting the man that is credited with saving his life. I wanted to meet this man. I wanted to meet him. I wanted to be with my family and for me to findally sit in i dont know i cant explain that. Robert bieber performed cpr on santana after he was struck by lightning while riding his horse in buckeye a half mile from his familys ranch. Bieber says his skills from being a volunteer firefighter for 18 years kicked in quick. Without those skills, santana might not be here today. More than likely not because of the time frame for the Fire Department to get there. We hadnt seen him we wouldnt have gotten ahold of 911 when we did to g god put me there at the right time for a reason. This whole process has been bitter sweet but in a way he is thankful it happened. He says because of this traumatic since didnt. He and his father now have a relationship. His entire family is closer and he will become a better person. The gift of a Second Chance thanks to robert. For me to get better, be better at home, be better with my family, be better with everybody. They say its perfect, you dont know what you have until its really until its gone. And san tan says doctors have told him it could take possibly a year for him to fully recover. He and his family are definitely hoping that happens much sooner. Santana telling us he is actually excited to get back on a horse. Reporting live, danielle miller, fox 10 news. Nearly 200 fugitives are now in jail thanks to a long investigation by the u. S. Marshals office. Among those in jail include people who are wanted for kidnapping and sex and drug offenses. Now this all happened today. The u. S. Marshals office able to seize 15 grams of cocaine, 60 grams of heroin and 24 ounces of marijuana. They were able to seize 22 guns. Marshals office say they do these operations often to keep the community safe. We do this on a daily basis. Group and large task force to go after what we consider the worst of the worse. Those individuals that are committing Violent Crimes in our communities. 13,000 also seized in this operation. They did a similar operation back in april where they arrested more than 200 fugitives that time as well. A deadly crash involving a motorcycle early today on the i17. Dps says the motorcyclist veered off the road and hit a chain link fence. There is no sig impairment being a factor here, according to dps. The offramps on the i17 at greenway and bell road were closed for a few hours. Dps troopers say that they dont know why the motorcyclist veered off the road in the first place. A hazmat situation in maryvale today after two men accidentally spilled mercury while out cleaning up a neighborhood. The two men found a bag filled with the liquid metal in an alley where they were volunteering. One of the men dumped the it splashed on their pants. Officials checked both men and they said there wasnt a significant amount on them. I picked it up and im like what is this . Its splashing everywhere and i pour it into a concentrated apple and i could see what this is. Im thinking its glistening off the water. No, it was definitely mercury. The man who had mercury that splashed on him there he said that he will be okay. Fire Officials Say to call the Fire Department if you ever have any mercury to d well, we are miles away from the dakotas, but people right here in the valley are standing in solidarity with protesters of the Dakota Access pipeline. This has been a contentious topic for months and now progress has been made in the favor of the protesters all thanks to the department of justice. Marcy jones live now with the details for us. Hundreds of people came together right here in phoenix to stand in solidarity with them. Even though this is a step in hundreds of valley residents gathered today to show support for the Standing Rock sioux tribe in solidarity against the Dakota Access pipeline. Members of the rose bud sioux tribe say now that thousands of protesters have the worlds attention, its time to be heard. I grew up on a reservation in south dakota. If this pipeline is built will be affected by any oil leaks because of where we get our water the environmental racism was used to describe the feeling have of whats happening in north dakota. Something tribe members say they are familiar with. Its not just about the water. Its everything. Our land. Our tradition, our culture, everything thats being taken away. I mean, it goes back down to the 1800s. What we were taught. Steven of rose bud sioux tribe says this issue is bigger than race. In an end an unforeseen error white man body made up of 80 water as well as natives. Everybody. We need water. If that pipeline when it breaks underneath the missouri river, it will infect the river. It will cause birth defects, it will cause death, it will cause nobody to have any clean water to drink. Yesterday a federal judge denied the tribe to block the construction. However, the department of justice stepped in to halt construction while officials rethink the next steps. Finish line. Its a step forward, but its not the end. A memorial is also set up with nearly 3,000 flags commemorating the lives lost in the attacks. In each flag has been named of a person who died in the attack and information how they lived. The memorial will be open tomorrow until 8 00 p. M. Runners also honored a firefighter who sacrificed his life on 911 in order to save people. Thats right, they took part in the tunnel to tower 5k run and walk to honor firefighter that run was held in phoenix. Started at 8 46 this morning and the same time that first tower was hit in the attacks 15 years ago. The tunnel to towers website says steven had just finished his shift as a firefighter when he got word of the attacks. He was on his way to play golfs with his play golf with his brothers but turned around and grabbed his gear to save lives. A local group putting on a bake sale today to raise money for aunt aids research. That foundation is an organization that focuses on funding for the aids walk every year. This Foundation First started fundraising by doing a bake sale and now going back to their roots. Doing another one. The money would go toward raising money for the annual aids walk. Aunt ritas cofounder says he couldnt believe the amount of support there is at the walk he started. When we go down to the walk year, im like, wow. Keep it alive, its amazing. The aids walk is scheduled to take place october 23. Aunt ritas Foundation Goal is to raise 400,000. People throughout the valley coming together today to give back as all part of a United Way Community project. This was held over at Sutton Elementary School in phoenix of volunteers there help doingnet, test and install car seats for families who are in need today school. Repainting areas that needed it on campus. Volunteers from aaa and united way helped put the car seats into the parents cars. Its the caleb belage show.
