I think we've had something like I have to go back and check 18 give or take impeachments most of them in the judges 8 convictions no president's ever been convicted of the 2 who were impeached and I went back and I have never seen a process like this applied to any judge or any president ever so it's never a disaster that's never happened before and I have to tell you I do think that if Hillary Clinton had been elected there's a good likelihood the Republicans would have been doing much the same thing in fact I started writing my book which is now called Case Against to be trumped the original title was the case against impeaching Hillary Clinton because Republicans announced that if she got elected they would start impeachment proceedings against her the day that she got elected I think both sides have misused the power of impeachment of weaponized impeachment for partisan political purposes I'm a liberal Democrat and I'm on the side of Donald Trump on this issue not because I'm going to vote for him or not because I voted for him I didn't I voted for Hillary Clinton because I believe in the Constitution more than I believe in partisan politics. I find it interesting these former federal prosecutors quite frankly don't know a damn thing about the Constitution impeachment I'm just giving you my I get sick you hearing them lecturing everybody anyway that long you're just dead wrong about that they do know they're just not telling the truth very people 'd on television if Hillary Clinton were the president was being impeached would be making exactly exactly the opposite argument let me give you an example from a colleague of mine was a friend Larry Tribe when Bill Clinton was in office he did research and came to the conclusion as a constitutional scholar that a sitting president could not be prosecuted or indicted or charged with a crime that was his constitutional conclusion for Bill Clinton Trump gets elected and suddenly the constitutional law changes and Larry my friend is woke and relied on back then and now says Gee what a mistake I made Yes a sitting president can be indicted a sitting president can be prosecuted and sent to prison I think many of the people you see on television lecturing us they know they're just partisan political operatives or spokespeople who just make the law come out the way they want to to I've become very unpopular among my liberal friends because I'm telling it the way I've always told it I took the same view and when Richard Nixon was being impeached I was on the national board of the a.c.l.u. I wanted him impeached but I wanted it to be done by the rule of law and I asked the a.c.l.u. To come and become involved and make sure that every single application of the law was properly made and I would do that no matter who the president was because the you know institution is so important there was a junior lawyer and vice in that committee now and there was Hillary Clinton and she was very aggressive ground of some people facts she wanted to break the rule she didn't want witnesses to have lawyers Pampling you know I knew or a little bit. Back then I knew were much better after she got elected.
