Means Anderson Reservoir near morgan hill could reach full capacity by this weekend. For the first time in more than a decade water is expected to start flowing over the reservoirs spillway and that could result in flooding downstream. Kron 4s Charles Clifford has details. Standupright now im standing at the bottom of anderson dam here in Santa Clara County and behind me is the main outlet for the Anderson Reservoir and right now the Santa Clara ValleyWater District has it wide open sending 416 cubic feet of water per second into coyote creek. Natsthe district is hoping to drain as much water as possible out of the reservoir before the next big round of storms arrives. As of thursday afternoon, the lake is sitting at about 99. 2 percent of full capacity and climbing. The district believes that with the incoming moisture the reservoir will probably hit 100 percent this weekend. When that happens, water will start flowing over andersons one and only spill way. The added flow into coyote creek will most likely result in flooding. The Water District expects low lying areas downstream to see high water. Whether flood waters reach any of the thousands of homes and businesses below the dam will depend on how big the incoming storms are. Jeremy kastle and his wife live just below the dam. Sotyeah, i worry about it a little bit. That would be a total bummer for the people of morgan hill. We need water but not like that. In addition to possible flooding there is another danger here. Sota few years ago, anderson damn was deemed seismically unsafe and the reservoir for safety reasons is suppsed to be kept at a maximum of 68 percent of capacity. Right now its at 99 percent. In the unlikely event that a big earthquake were to hit the area while the reservoir is full, damage to the dam could send a wall of water flooding downstream. Kastle says that he and his neighbors are aware of the danger, but admit theres not much they can do about it. Sot theres a little buzz going around but people arent to afraid i guess. Standupthe Water District says it could take between 4 and 9 weeks to lower the water level back to where it should be. That will also depend on how strong the storms are in the coming days and weeks. In Santa Clara County, Charles Clifford kron 4 news. Now to an update on the ongoing problem at the oroville dam. And although officials are reducing the amount of water being released from the lake. They expect the level of water to continue to fall during the storms. The Butte County Sheriffs Department is keeping a close eye on the situation to prevent the dam from failing. And will call in the National Guard if needed.
