To say the least. Sot very big job. Your talking about a city of 600000 people and lots and lots of buildings. Stewart says that most of the time they would only inspect a building if a complaint was received or if they happened to see a problem themselves. Normally they wouldnt enter a building without having permission from the owner or a getting a search warrant. Sot a warrant would be necessary if there was an owner that wouldnt cooperate or we couldnt find the owner to get that cooperation. We wouldnt just force our way in but we would get a warrant to go in. Nats after 36 people were killed in last fridays fire at the ghost ship warehouse, the city of oakland revealed that they had been investigating complaints against the property but that the interior of structure had not been inspected by Code Enforcement for at least 30 years. John says he was surprised that the inside of the building had not been inspected for such a long time. Sot i dont know why the building didnt have its second and third inspections. I just dont know. John says there are many old structures , like the ghost ship warehouse, all over oakland. Theyre relics from the citys more industrial days. He says that the best way to get the city to inspect these buildings and take action if necessary is to complain and then follow up on that complaint. Sot and see that they follow it through.
