Fire Officials Say the blaze was reported shortly before two this afternoon. They say it started in a grassy area off of highway 12 near beck avenue. Officials say the highway was closed from beck avenue to pennsylvania avenue for around two hours. Homes on james street were also evacuated for a few hours. 15 acres were burned in the blaze. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Temperatures that made it up to mid 90s. It will only get hotter tomor, and fire danger will only get more dangerous. Two Santa Rosa Police officers as they approached a shoplifting suspect at a kmart. Police say that suspect attacked the officers and wait until you hear what investigators say happened next kron 4s scott rates went to the kmart and he walks us through the dramatic events. Very scary and tense moments not only for the customers inside this kmart but you officers who were involved in this violent encounter. It all started sunday morning around 1030 when a Loss Prevention officer at this kmart called police after seeing someone cutting open boxes of merchandise and and removing security tags off of items. Police arrived quickly to the kmart investigators tell me the officers approached the suspect, 39yearold Michael Joseph of santa rosa. After searching joseph they were able to find a knife and a bag of meth on him. As the officers went to handcuff him they say joseph started to run. Thats when the officers tackled joseph and say he became extremely violent even biting one of the officers on the hand several times and grabbing at the officers guns those two officers were able to somehow get him under control and make the arrest but not after some very scary moments. Tag not addition to the bag a meth and the knife officers also found a semi automatic handgun in a bag joseph had on him. Im told joseph is a convicted felon and he is behind bars on no bail. Authorities in napa county seized and destroyed over 28 hundred Marijuana Plants from an outdoor growing operation. The Napa Special Investigations Bureau says javier gomez was arrested in connection with the marijuana this past week. The operation was located on the 3800 block of mount veeder road in rural napa county. Than 60thousand Marijuana Plants so far this year. Investigators say a fire burning thousands of acres in Shasta County was set by a man at an illegal marijuana grow site. Officials say freddie smoke the third was at the pot site when the exhaust from his truck ignited dry grass. He was arrested saturday on charges of recklessly causing the bully fire and marijuana cultivation. That fire has charred 4 thousand acres and only 15 percent contained. A woman is recovering after she was stabbed in San Franciscos Mission District this morning. Police say it happened at around 1045 near the 24th and Mission Street bart station. They say she was stabbed at least once and was taken to the hospital. Suspect information has not been released. A threepointfour magnitude earthquake shook part of Santa Clara County this morning. It struck close to gilroy just before 1030. The epicenter was about six miles away from the city. On the usgs website, people reported feeling the quake in gilroy, morgan hill, and hollister. At least three people are dead and five others hurt after a shooting in pasadena. This is video from the scene. The shooting happened saturday afternoon and it led to a standoff with police.
