Thats if Union Members and management dont come to an agreement. Kron 4s jeff bush is live at the cal trans building where negotiations are going on right now. Jeff any progress . Reporter many people say that they are trying to put together a deal. However, there have been 150 bart buses on reserves. At nine different stations in the bay area will check back in 30 minutes to give you the latest updates. Jeff bush, kron 4 news. There are a lot of people who told us, that barts negotiations. And threats of a strike, have just gone on too long. And its stressful that a deal still is not done. This drama actually started last april, when bart and its unions started working on a new contract. By late june, the negotiations had reached the breaking point. Kron4s Charles Clifford shows us what happened next. Reporter after failing to reach a compromise, barts Union Workers walked off the job at 12 01 am on the morning of july 1st, shutting down the entire system. The strike forced tens of thousands of people to find other ways to get around. It created traffic jams and irritated commuters on the evening of july 4th, the two sides agreed to a 30 day cooling off period and the trains started rolling the next day. On august 4th, with the unions threatening to walk off the job again, governor jerry brown intervened. He ordered bart employees to keep working for at least another week. A few days later bart management and the unions presented their positions to an inquiry board. With yet another strike deadline looming and no solution in sight, the governor requested a 60 day cooling off period on august 11th. Since then, the two sides have continued to negotiate, although sporadically. The governors cooling off period officially expired on october 11th, but the two sides have agreed to continue talking through at least the weekend. In the newsroom, Charles Clifford kron 4 news. Reporter about six hours after the Lafayette Police Department Says a man attempted to kidnap an 8 yearold child near the lafayette library. Contra costa county sheriffs deputies spotted this man fitting the description of the suspect walking down mount diablo boulevard. The sheriffs Department Says the man tried to avoid deputies by walking into the library. Thats where he was arrested at around 530 in the evening. The sheriffs Department Says the victims mother identified him as the suspect. In an incident parents in the Community Find disturbing. The senate and the house and the president says no. It is kind of tough. Reporter president obama says that he is in support of a temporary release of the debt ceiling. Meaning for millions of americans, the benefits that help put food on the table wont stretch as far as they have for the past four years. Cutting off a tracking device becomes a felony that could send parolees back to state prison for up to three years. Reporter im standing on bryant street at beale in san francisc. Near the carpool lane entrance to the bay bridge. And, if you look over my shoulder. You can see theres been a change to the signage. Caltrans changed the operational hours for carpool on friday. This ahead of the looming bart strike monday. As carpool lanes are not enforced on weekends. The california Highway Patrol says high occupancy vehicle or carpool lanes will be enforced from five in the morning until seven at night starting monday if bart workers do walk off the job. Typically, carpool lanes are not enforced during noncommute hours. But the chp says this is being done to help alleviate some of the anticipated heavy traffic. Drivers who break the law could face a minimum fine of 481dollars. The chp says signs have been changed along interstates 80, 880 and 680. As well as highways 84 and 92. Investigators say the teens disappeared from a ranch for troubled youth. Anna velasquez has the more on the story. Reporter state police tried to served two search warrants. One at Tierra Blanca ranch creek. And another at the main ranch. But no sign of anyone on the 30thousand acre property. Even from the air. And thats what prompted investigators to prepare an amber alert for the nine teens ranging in age from 13 to 17 years old. But the autopsy report indicates alfonso was shot in her left forearm suggesting she was on her knees with her arms up trying to protect herself. Medical examiners say they removed seven bullets and two bullet fragments from alfonsos body. In august derek medina announced on facebook that he had just killed his wife.
