Deputies returned fire and struck the suspect who then ran through an alleyway in the direction of other deputies with that gun. Still in his hand, a second deputy shot the man again and he fell to the ground. He was taken to a hospital in critical condition. And tonight weve learned that hes been transported to a hospital in the sacramento area for additional treatment. He has not been identified yet, but the Sheriffs Office says that he is a resident of sonoma valley. The 2 deputies involved in the shooting have been placed on paid administrative leave. They were not identified either. The Sheriffs Office says they are planning on releasing their names later on this week. A teacher from Benicia Middle School has been arrested for allegedly having an inappropriate relationship with a student. According to the school superintendent. 56 yearold kurt Michael Sandel sent sexually inappropriate messages to a student. The School District notified police who arrested sindel on friday. He was booked on suspicion of harmful matter, sent with intent of to a minor, which is a felony. No other information was released. Police say the investigation is ongoing. A 37 yearold oakley man was killed in a solo car crash in brentwood. This happened near grand street and fairview avenue just before 7. 30, this morning. Brentwood police say the vehicle involved had overturned and when they arrived, they found the victim inside. No one else was involved in this crash. Police believe the driver was speeding at the time and toxicology results are right now pending the name of the victim has not been released. Traffic still heading on a highway. 24 in orinda following a rollover crash earlier this afternoon. It happened in the eastbound lanes just east of the caldecott tunnel around one. 45 a uhaul truck towing an rv, lost control and overturned, triggering a sig alert. We know at least one person was injured. Not clear what the extent of those injuries are, though. A tremendous amount of work has been done to strengthen the infrastructure with bridges, freeway overpasses and improving the water system. These images change the bay area in a matter of seconds. This was 33 years ago on was a shock to the bay. There. The loma prieta earthquake catching the public and even the Science Community off guard. There was a real air of complacency. When David Schwartz joined the u. S. Geological survey in 1985, he says the focus was on the San Andreas Fault in southern california. The bay area hadnt seen a major quake since a 7. 9 San Francisco earthquake in 19. 0, 6, in the bay area basically was in africa. So that changed after loma prieta. The 6. 9 magnitude quake destroying bridges and leveling homes and buildings. 63 people died and more than 3,000 injured. The shaking lasted an agonizing 15 seconds. Shake terrible. I grew up new california. And grew up here in southern california. Up here and been through a lot of earthquakes. But this is really different than other ones. And it was a little scary and you could or g is the owner of bookshop. Santa cruz. His business and much of pacific avenue in downtown santa cruz was in ruins. The location closer to the epicenter of the quake in the santa cruz mountains. We had 400 people come put on hard hats. They carry all those books out there so we can keep going. She was convicted for for of fraud for making false claims about her companys blood testing. Technology holmes attorneys requested a new trial after alleging a key witness showed up at homes home to express regret over his testimony. Holmes is currently out on bail.
