at santana row, multiple restaurants are open and many people skipped out on the stuffing in favor of a feast that didn't require a day in the kitchen. i went around asking people what made them decide to forgo a home cook holiday meal at santana row. the large christmas tree provided great on beyond. along with outdoor dining for customers was simply just a better choice than cooking thanksgiving dinner at home. >> is too much too much money. it's easier to just go out and hang out together. but for darnya matt lee and her family, maybe it was the higher price of a turkey that led to them eating at a restaurant. i honestly don't think so. this year the usda reports the avian flu outbreak reduce the turkey population by 5.4 million leading to a record high in turkey prices. the american farm bureau federation says fresh boneless skinless turkey 6.70, per po nd in september. it's 112% higher than than the same time in 2021. when prices were just over $3 per pound. but i don't think it really affected us personally. but overall, it probably did make some difference fight the higher prices in turkey just seems that most families in people did not want to deal with the mess dollars forgiven, but that they won't see a decrease in their debt until the matter is settled in court. kron four's rob nesbitt reports on how long a supreme court ruling could take and reaction from college grads. >> when president biden promised up to $20,000 in loan forgiveness back in august, he did so without congressional approval. republicans calling it an overreach of executive authority. >> we're not going to back down or fight to get families preview. president biden announced this week that will be extending the pause on federal student loan payments that was set to expire in january. 6 republican led states are suing to deny the student debt relief. the president promised the summer. i spoke with legal analyst steve clarke about the legal claims by nebraska, missouri, arkansas, iowa, kansas and south carolina. this affects our bottom line. we receive revenue from this debt service and by forgiving it you are hurting our state coffers. the u.s. department of justice has asked the supreme court to hear the case so that the 16 million who have already been approved will know if they'll have thousands forgiven or not. clark says the first decision the court will likely make is that there should be an injunction against the federal government for forgiving the debt. but that answers won't come quickly frequently. major issues like this take years to work their way through the courts. you saw that with marriage equality and other very significant civil rights issues. one person who is paying close attention to the debt relief is john paul warren, the assistant professor of social work at cal state university east bay. has student loans worth a quarter of a million dollars? he went to college for 15 years and got his doctorate so that it could work in higher education. >> the university professor hopes the 9 supreme court justices rule in favor of the loan forgiveness program it's really good to forgive debt of these large corporations. the mic businesses. >> but forgiving the debt of, you know, joe american is is bad because it puts them in a better position. and i'm like dwight that that that while millions wait in limbo, the pause on federal student loan repayments will extend until 60 days after the lawsuit is resolved. if that doesn't happen by june 30th, that payments will start back up 60 days after that. those with the most at risk. here are the 18 million people who have their entire loan balance canceled. the department of education says if payments start next year, those borrowers might think they're in the clear and services plans to hand out. 25 million dollars in cash payments to residents s% facing challenging skin additions. specifically those who are pregnant or aging out of extended foster care individuals video is coming out of the suspect accused of opening fire at a nightclub in colorado springs. the suspect was spotted on camera along with their mother making racist remarks the summer. >> he >> wednesday, 22 year-old anderson aldrich appeared in court looking bruised and swollen. the judge ordered the suspect to be held without bail. all churches now facing possible murder and hate crime charges. to a terrible story out of virginia. 2 people remain in critical condition after a walmart manager opened fire at employees killing 6 others. and then himself. now police say they found a manifesto on the shooter's phone as well as a list of potential targets. reporter kaylee, the sun has the latest. it's just one after another. and my fear. and that's one reason why we're here tonight is that this is now normal. >> this week, the community of chesapeake, virginia, mourning the loss of 6 walmart employees shot and killed tuesday night. the shooter, 31 year-old andre bing of chesapeake turned the gun on himself. one store employee says being seem to target the victims, adding that she survived even in the line of fire >> that the went me and you look me. and with there and all he >> investigators say their main focus right now is learning as much as they can about the gunman, including a possible motive being was a team lead on the overnight shift and had worked with the company since 2010. wal-mart said a former employee who wanted to remain anonymous telling our crews he doesn't believe being suffered from any kind of anger problems, adding that he never would have predicted this kind of behavior. sometimes he could be a little hard to get along with some associates. didn't like him, but i don't think they bullied him. i mean, from what i saw, he was a good guy. but i've heard that he had issues and they tried to talk him through his issues. a search warrant was executed. it brings home a source telling our team and not much of note was found. no additional weapons or ammunition. >> that was kaylee, the sun reporting. another witness told our sister station that she believes the shooting was planned and that she heard the suspect laughing. that same witness said the shooter, quote, had issues with other managers at that walmart. but police have not confirmed a motive. the justice department is now looking to question former vice president mike pence as part of their criminal investigation into donald trump and his role in the january 6th riot. the new york times say pence is open to considering the request. attorney general merrick garland appointed a special counsel last friday to oversee the investigation. this is separate from the house 6 committee's investigation. pence said at the time he would not testify for that committee citing separation of powers. former president trump may try to invoke executive privilege to stop pence's testimony, which he has tried to do already with others who worked in his administration. trump said last week he is running for president in 2024. prince has parents has hinted at a run himself but has not made that official yet. coming up next on the kron 4 morning news. string of anti semitic comments. after bringing former president trump's twitter account back to life. new twitter owner elon musk says he will grant amnesty to most suspended accounts as long as they were not banned for leaking or the law or engage ring engaging in spam. musk said he made the decision based on a twitter poll. he posted to his account prior to buying twitter. you remember musk expressed concerns over the company's alleged high number of bots. no word on whether butts played any role in the recent musk polls. meanwhile, german software developer has determined nearly 140,000 people paid for twitter blue. that is the little blue check mark that is supposed to prove the user's authenticity. now we're learning from the software company, thousands of those subscribers. we're actually going to far right accounts. the accounts had been flagged for posting extremist content and conspiracy theories. the twitter blue rollout has been marked by chaos and abused by trolls impersonating high-profile figures. human rights groups have also been expressing concern about twitter, loosening guidelines on what is posted and the increase in hate postings. still ahead on the
