especially the half moon bay leadership. the board of supervisors, the county executive allied law enforcement agencies, cal fire, ems, the fbi. but especially the san mateo county sheriff's deputies. i'm proud to be your sheriff. what happened yesterday in this community? it's devastating. the coastal communities are very tight knit community. most importantly, it turn the lives of these families upside down. many of the workers came to this country to work and provide for their families. instead yesterday. >> better mental health services, better things and for most. but we for this kind violence. as the governor offered his support to this community i want to support him and our leaders safety and the country's >> i have no additional updates at this time, but it that you see there were 5 males and 2 females. though, others out of survivor. he is at the time stafford hospital and he's in stable condition. last night. i i had the honor of being here at the ids far. now with the families for the people that were directly impacted. some of the family members received some really bad news that they lost their loved ones. i can tell is the coastal community came together. they supported one another. you are here for one another. and i'm proud to be part of this community with them. and i want to promise to our coastal communities and this organization will stand with you as we work to restore the sense of safety. as we were shattered yesterday afternoon with this act of violence. i want thank all the law enforcement leaders across the nation who have offered support to not only myself but to this community. at this time. i'd like to introduce fbi special special division agent robert trip. thank you, sheriff. good afternoon, everyone robert refined, the special agent in charge of the field i'd like to begin by offering my deepest sympathies to the families of the victims. the fbi responded the scene last night and provided technical and forensic support to the san mateo. sure. >> we are now transitioning to providing victim services and are in the process of identifying resources to help victims to smash have like to thank all of our partners, especially the men and women of the san mateo sheriff's office, sheriff departments for outstanding lead things over to vice mayor partnered anything. last 3 years. are. were affected by the pandemic. is our host community. we support each other. we care for each other. my condolences to the families in the community. i have been affected. so yes, also 3 years ago when the pandemic to of the community. and it's affecting the flats. now it is time for all of us to come together and bring u.s. report. we have great leaders in our community that stepping forward. taking a chance. we'll be here for to be here for our community. we have a strong leadership in the county. we're near like to share. we're live on forsman responded to a shooting. >> you should be in same parking we celebrate the pumpkin festival. that way. you know, the biggest pumpkin. he's on the same site. they were here for the to share with you have been on community. this is something that's going to change how we do things in our community. i was in effect a part the community. the fear that they have about going back to the forms. now we have. exposed. how are probably communities living. the living conditions. there's not ignore that. that meant to show support that they need. it is not ignoring. i want to thank you all. we're taking a chance to come to have fun be and learning community have for today. we have everything farming, aanching fishing. you come to a community for the pumpkins. and ignore the farm workers. not today. we're not going anybody. we are here to support each other. we're here for each other. and think leaders. for being here today. know is going to difficult. going we're going to be able. we'll make it through this. this is a change or use your half and we never would happen in for community community. what happened? thank it mes >> we thank you, we get that from here for community with new year. we're going continue to be here for both community. so i just wanted to give you refund with the county >> so last night following the event we did i think many of you know, here at the ied center, we i d center. i apologize. we actually brought we brought farm workers. we brought the community and who had been at the center of the different problem. patients who have been basically at the presence of this crime scenes, we had them here. we had a mental health counseling available to them for them and then something beautiful happened. lot of mental health counseling, this taking place while that reunification was taking place. we saw the strength of moon bay rise. we saw community members come bring to bring closed, bring love and support and be here as one strength. one strong community. and the one thing i want to say is following that it's in times like this. you look at all of us. you see a lot of government officials appeared, but really what happens in times and we've seen it happen in the floods. and you know what i'm talking about here in half moon bay last 3 weeks. >> government does the best it can to help people but its neighbors to help people. that's what we've seen happen and happen there for the last 3 weeks during the flooding. that's what we see happening right now. i can't stress enough the the compassionate seen in this community. there are people who i called god's mercy on this planet. one of those belinda arriaga who is here in the back and her team at all us. it was the post last night us from abundant grace out touching people. well, tell going forward we have been very blessed for county manager step forward. we're going to be providing income replacements to people who are going to be at these job sites, obviously for the first for the foreseeable future. well, the close we're also going. we also provided hotel rooms. we move them from here. so they're not done that. they're going to have a place have a warm bed emerging, continue to do that to take care of these families going forward. >> i can't express and i on behalf of the county is so how honored we are. they have a federal law enforcement here. our sheriff's department here are our state legislative delegation. are federal lead a delegation and our governor. and i watched first-hand today our governor interact with these families might it was one of the most impressive things i've ever seen. so we are very fortunate in this community to have the leadership that we have and we are very fortunate to have the residents we have. and i i come for the people. >> and the people here are strong. thank you. >> going introduce assembly member phil ting. thank you. supervisor let me just first take our our share of for county sheriff, the county, the city. all the incredible work that they've done to make sure the community is first and foremost safe. also very much focused and all the families that have been impacted, families that have been directly impacted. but then this whole city has been and all the work really begin the healing process, leaving process. to this rich like many asian-americans. i celebrate chinese new year over this last week last week. it's part of our biggest holiday, asian-american community. holiday that brings people together. that we use of our homes, a focus on families and loved ones. they get ready to start the new year and really look at new. it's a time of rebirth. this time of really restarted everything. and to 2 shootings that our state run. park. and then this one, of day come on the heels of the lunar new year is unimaginable. it makes me think about everything that we've done. we would traditionally same california. we are very proud the fact that we don't have as many mass shootings there are other states because of all all the work we have around common sense gun legislation. but unfortunately, it is still way too easy for any individual. 2 team, a legal or it is legal firearm in this state. that's just a fact. we're doing everything we can. to keep our community safe. it shows that when 2 individuals who really actually have no right to have any kind of firearms and painted it legally or illegally. little that we can do. so. i know that my colleagues night, the state level, we're going to be going back to work to really think about what else we can do to further protect the community here now and then really every single one of our communities up and down the state. i know that because it was good or new year. so sunday that there's going to celebrations beyond. we have our big parade in san francisco coming up a couple weeks. i know that all the officials up and down the state are also working very hard to make sure that all the celebrations can continue and we can continue to work very, very heart to make sure all of our communities can really celebrate that holiday. it all of the color of my colleagues. and the are one of our brand new colleagues members. i am well, first of all, thank you all for being here today. i want to thank our governor who is putting a long day, a long 2 days of appreciate you being here. appreciate our delegation being here. >> up until yesterday. we're going to be one of those fortunate communities. it wasn't a part of that exclusive club that had a mass shooting. now we're part of that club. and what worries me is that club is not so exclusive anymore. community. our hearts are broken. and i'll tell you one thing we are resilient. our hearts will mend and we will continue to fight the fight in california against gun violence and in in the nation. so i thank you all for being here. we're going to be on the mend, it is not a club. i can say i'm glad we're >> with that, i'm going to turn it over to assemblymember market. thank you. so never marc berman. i the 23rd of somebody's district in the california assembly. and i want to welcome everybody to the favorite part my favorite part of my district, which is half moon for those who haven't been here before, don't know a lot about half moon bay is as close to small town america as we get in the bay area. it's 30 miles south of san francisco. it's 30 minutes west of silicon valley. but when you get here, you feel like you're a million miles away from all those problems. and yesterday those problems came crashing down that sense of peace and tranquility here in half moon bay here on the court and on the coast side was destroyed by senseless death by by a senseless mass shooting that that should not happen then, you know, we have workplace disagreements all over the world. the monterey park shooting. we have relationship disagreements all over the world, but it's only in the united states were far too often. those disagreements and in and we've done a lot in california to try to reduce gun violence and successful and reduced and violence. but there's clearly more that we need to do. so the state is going to do everything that we can because it is strong. half moon bay is strong. it's it's such a tight knit community where everybody looks out for each other and you're going to look out for them and i'm grateful to sheriff. they're counties. one of the best-run counties in the state and they've already immediately deploying resources to those who need it and will continue to. it's all the community members who are impacted. i want to thank the governor for being here today because i know he doesn't want to hear today and he's tired with these types of conference and hpwe're going to continue more that we can be sure that doesn't have to go to make more than the future. and we, as vice mayor jimenez said, we need to do more to support the farmworker community and we will do more a community here in half. and then a co-signer across california. and with that, i want to turn it over to a state senator josh becker, who represents happened and the state senate. hi, josh beckerman to the 13th and senate district. one 0st just think. so. the folks who spoke in here want to thank or council member and then as the rest of the council, i want to thank our wonderful new sheriff. i want to thank our nonprofits last u n risen to the occasion and been here for work. the residents of this area for the farm workers. people don't realize, but this is significant for work or community. we have over 100 farms. we thousands of farm workers here. yeah, it is often overlooked, but is councilman mende said not today. so for me, for my job, for my office, we have to do 2 things. one, we're here for the families to listen to them to get them whatever they need and asked them what they need and be here for them. and then second is to go back to the drawing board, as was mentioned. thanks, alicia governor and the legislature. we do have so the strongest long last the country of one 3rd, the deaths per capita than other states. but on a day like this, when they're 7 people dead, innocent people in our community, it doesn't seem to amount to much. so we got to go back. we need the political will in this country. it's not rocket science. other countries do it. there's no second amendment right to well, you know, shut up and dance hall and dance a mushroom farm. this is the right to do that. so we've got to get back until we have the republicans in congress to act the federal level. we've got go back to drawing board in california. look at every asked for the process to how you get a gun high stark on how we enforce a red flag last week traced to accountability for gun manufacturers. all those things. we have to go back to drawing board to that to the families, to families lost loved ones here today and to the residents of the state in the country. thank you. i'd like now to bring up a leader who has been here really for decades, working on the coast, working on farmworker housing for decades in the leadership, a leader on gun violence issues in the u.s. congress. a congress member an issue. well, good afternoon, everyone. it seems to me that there is an aye or nay that exists. >> really is the least amongst us in this community are the ones that are the headlines today across the country. and i think around the world and that is the farm workers. they were killed. purpose with intent execution style. and this community. california and the country is reeling from it. we have unfinished business in our country to address gun violence. this workplace violence. and that unfinished business. until it is our finish business. there will be pain in many communities. i think in the name the lives that are lost. >> we all have free committed to. and the last handful of hours. whether it's extraordinary law enforcement, the elected people in the community ourselves to make good on that to stop the gun violence. i want to thank the governor for spending the better part of the state here. >> when i saw him. when i was starting say goodbye because going to i said i hope you don't mind my saying. i hope i don't see you for a while. but his presence. is important. it's important because it's to the community. i spoke to the president today speak to him. >> i just before i left house, we're going to have pay. and he expressed. condolences and support most importantly, to support. of community. the story of america is too. not only meet the challenges to make good on the promises. i think that this do they see he's going to do just that. the governor, of the greatest state in the nation. gavin newsom. >> berman's, right. i i didn't want to be here. i don't want to hear. down and down. i'm processing this in real time. and now 2 days ago. after hearing around park. my first instinct was to get to my desk. and open up a file. and literally out dropped. the final was a bunch of these yellow cards. well, my talking points in san jose. once it there i call possible. and then the ones almost 4 years ago to the next week. later, 1000 oaks shooting with 13 people were gunned down at the borderline bar. cause of the note. went down in monterey park and was invited to 3 press conferences like this. and i said no, no, no. i watched them on my cell phone instead. as i walked around the community. and i'll tell you what i did that selfish. because i didn't have the guts to come up and say the same things we hear again and again and again. that was cut. sheriff luna did a magnificent job. local elected studant, magnificent job. we make sure that as well. i walked in listens, knocked on doors. into businesses that were still open. just listen to people. remember someone? growing up, you know, woman's 3 young girls in the back and she couldn't talk to starts tearing up. steer. 10 year-old daughter, 8 year-old daughter and 3 year-old daughter and say can you give me a favor and can you tell them it's going to be ok? and i said, what do you mean she what they're supposed to be in school? my dear old said no way. has a tenor. ulsh goes doing remarkably 3 year-old. she was just roll around in the back. and the 8 year-old was so fearful because she heard the gunshots. and she knew she actually knew they weren't fired. you know, itself is remarkable. she didn't sleep the night before. and i looked over and i said it's going to get better. you know, i thought to myself that she was like my 8 year-old daughter. thank god she didn't do this. she didn't ask me the let's get the doctor. he says, no, no, i'm going to be fine. his life was shattered. but a gunfight. because i can't afford the spending more time here. i don't have the money. his mom or i can be speaking. only son arrived. they came over to me worried is going to lose his job the next day and this you can go back to work. talks about inequality, things being exposed. that's exactly what we experienced here today. farm workers of all stripes. with to do the sent asian dissent. asian gun. 39. now of these mass shootings. only a day. 24. of the new year. looking back at the same note and it starts as right here. what a fun on court. says aurora. because amid list. we're lando. san jose. sandy hook. started right in one or a park. and i got to write in half moon bay. what the is going on? what was said and said all the time. on american. only in america. number one in gun ownership. number one gun, that's not even complicated. >> guess what? this happened on our it becomes how we behave. we've allowed this to happen. doesn't have to be this way. it wasn't always this way. you decades ago we didn't experience these kind of things. we've allowed this to happen. i feared. 2 days ago the monterey park with way the other headlines. i know you have here. to give away 2 or 3 days from now. whatever the headlines will break. meanwhile, the trauma and the damage, the devastation. for generations. in some case, communities being torn asunder, one feeling safe. all those farm workers. can i get a job someplace else? i can't go back. and by the way. so you should see what these folks are looking. the conditions are. shipping containers living. in shipping containers. folks getting 9 bucks an hour. verify the california minimum wage time, $9 an hour. no health care, no support services. but taking care of our health. providing a service to each and every one of us every single day. so this whole thing is just a stacking. of issues that come to the fore. the one common denominator, these guns. got no ideological opposition to someone on it. a gun responsibly. the wrong with this? allow these weapons of war, large capacity clips out on the streets, sidewalks. what we allow this culture, this powder. to continue. what happens in every one of these cases. i watch though, saying the evening newscast, well, we can solve for this with this particular law. cancel for pattern. we get some consumed by incident. we lose sight of the pattern. i'm proud of california. don't think for a second. the state. stepped aside. we taken responsibility. we believe this decision is not conditions that determine our fate and future we lead the nation. we've led the national conversation, got sick. you know, state in america has done more than the state of california and the data. there's out the efficacy, the success of gun safety. gun safety saves lives. but notably not in every case that naive. >> so point to that as proof of its failure. quite the contrary. gun safety saves lives. what modern pun safety movement started with a guy named ronald reagan republican party to look that guy. 1967. great leadership here in 1989, with the assault weapons ban led by senator feinstein a few years later after another tragic. you want to win california in the 1994 assault weapons ban that worked. that worked until they expire in 2004 and we started to see an increase in mass shootings. we lead the nation on background checks, closing loopholes and that the nation on red flag warnings. we lead the nation waiting areas. we lead the nation across a series gun safety measures and the data bears it out. we've seen a 55% reduction in gun deaths. when we initiated those progressive reforms from 1993 to 2017 and you look at our gun death rates, 37% below the national average. gun safety works. we will not back away from that result. but we can't do this alone. and with all due respect, we feel like we are. and this is where and forgive me. what after this. well, you've got to call some folks out. i'm still waiting for kevin mccarthy, the leader. of the house of representatives who reports to represent the people. the state of california, a proud and remarkable district in kern county. we haven't heard one word from it. not since monterey park. what happened here? not one worked. i want to express jen prayers, condolence nothing prize where's the ban on gun safety reform? where is the republican party? but good safety they blocked it every step of the way. one state can't do it alone. shame on that. and shame on those that allow and perpetuate. that to be rewarded. political. shame on. shame on these judges. there are rolling back the laws that we've established in the state of california. shame on. you deserve better. we deserve better. and so i'm here. process. like all of us, the uncertainty, the theater. of absurdity. only in america and a close on this. really hit home to me today. meeting immigrants from china. and their translator. even though i didn't translate these words. when the gunfire occurred, they were witnesses. their friends got shot, killed. they went over. people have been shot and they thought they were acting. they've never heard a sound like that. they never seen a scene like that. they didn't even own a company and the gunshot wound. that's something experienced. comprehensive. see this kind of carnage. this kind of this kind of destruction of communities and lives in confidence. this sense of safety and belonging, which we all yearn for regardless of your political stripes. we're a lot like so. thank you. first responders. rock stars behind us. paramedics that were on the scene. we pray for this one individual. it was because not prayers. well, a couple of young men behind me that if he survives, he will have survived because of their extorting work. thank you know, young man that 26 year-old fran and i met yesterday. this remarkable kids and told me i can't believe was brand. we all know brand. he was so shy. he's such an impact. i remember him. he when he was a kid, he would just immediately give all his toys the rest of the family. he was just check it. want learn. it was brand. we're so proud. selfless. look to me. i knew i was going to die. i turned around. i think he was about to shoot me. i didn't know. i literally physically was submitting to that moment. and then something came over me and i grabbed that and i wrestled away. he's still in shock. is he understands you talk about heroes. sometimes we talk about well too much. loses its well, no one yesterday. and you know what? if brandon can do it? we'll have that contest. and so it's in that spirit. what kings spirit? and elect its it thank you to the community. we're not giving up not get into the cynicism. thank you for believing in each other. thanks for showing up today. you won't be here. you've given up. thank you for your result. thank you for knowing knowing your core we can figure this out as we can. we know what to do. it's not even we do. don't have to do this again and again and again. to my state. final words. we're here just a few days ago. congresswoman and the president. 22 days, 32 trillion of water. mother nature's fury and least this community. communities across the state. it's been a hard month month and a half. i'm mindful that after 2 years of all that stacking the stress of covid isolated and disconnected. i'm so proud of california. i'm so proud of all. i mean, asked who says he's the greatest state in the union and she means that. and i feel that. i could be more price. to represent you. and therefore, extraordinary kids. want to grow up, feeling safe and graced feeling protected, connected and feeling respected. thank you all for being today. thank you. mark of leaders behind us couldn't and her team done and maybe this all here >> all right. let's just recap a liatle bit. we just heard during that like the press conference with governor gavin newsom in many other local leaders from san mateo county just to go over some new information we learned about the victims. there are 5 males, 2 females who were killed. there's one survivor in stable condition right now in the hospital. the vice mayor talking about how this entire community is now coming together to help the entire farmworker community and that small coastal community of half moon bay, the state senators saying there are hundreds of farms and thousands of farm workers there and they're they're not going to overlook this community any longer that they're also trying to work now to get them the help that they need because they can't work at these firms anymore because of the crime scenes that are happening and also because of safety. so they're working to get them income replacement and also get them hotels so they can have somewhere to stay. we heard from u.s. congresswoman anna eshoo. she says that there's unfinished business to address gun violence in our country. and until that business and is finished, they will continue to be pain in many communitics, not only here just in california, but throughout the entire country when it comes to gun violence. we also heard there from the governor about he's he's just absolute shock that he was just in monterey park yesterday and he was worried after talking to the victims in that community there that the shooting that happened at those dance halls that that violence would then be forgotten and the headlines would move past. and here he is now in half moon bay talking about the deadly shootings that happened here. and he's hoping that these these patterns will no longer continue when it comes to gun violence. so that's just a little recap of some of what we heard. of course, kron 4 dot com. we'll have the latest and our evening newscast starting at 5. we'll have recap of everything that we just heard. we have several reporters there on the scene. i just want to go over for any viewers who are joining us now and president joe biden also released a statement in regards to the deadly mass shooting in half moon bay. he said this, jill and i are praying for those killed in the shooting. he goes on to say this is the second time in days. but california communities are mourning the loss of loved ones due to a senseless act of gun violence. the president went on to say that his administration is ensuring local authorities and the half moon bay community have the full support of the federal government and the united farm workers of america also put out this statement. it reads in part that they're heartbroken, angry and demanding answers. as we wait for more news, the entire ufw mourns the loss of 7 farm workers. well, we did not know them. they were part of the often too visible. get always essential agriculture workforce that feeds america and the world as workers and as human beings. they deserve far better. we dream of a nation which all farm workers regardless of their ethnicity or national origin, are treated with dignity in which there are streets no longer bearing bloodshed after bloodshed in which our hearts have a moment to heal in between. let's go back to the governor. he's answering some questions now from reporters. >> he's got the evidence to back that up there every single day. what all the fun of workers say we have no money to borrow. because we're not going to pay for today. that's the reality. that exists and persist in many states across this country. the state is owning up to it trying to be more transparent. but those conditions are well established. now. as you mentioned, has more gun laws than any country and given congress right now. >> what realistically infeasible you want to see past year, california, the but we continue to enter a we always are. >> so for flight to last year we passed another doesn't and safety of including right of private action to prevent individuals to take weapons of war off the streets. and those guys. so continue to lead, by example, and we'll reflect on that exactly what occurred once all the facts are collected in terms of moderate part, what happened here? curtain opened last night, the first day in and day out streets of the state. we're not going back away from result that because it works. we know gun safety saves lives. here will stop. and that the bears. no country evidence. and it's incredibly important if people all this. take a look what california has done. but we are not isolate. many parts. one you're only as good as your weakest links. we saw that just down to garlic festival. i think it may be on the back of these notes. we're talking about individual may have gotten that gun from nevada. a border state. to do its job. but let's call it out. you have one party that truck shuns leader of that party from the state of california since of worked about these mass atrocities in his home state to farmworkers. he purports to lay claim to care about. i seen passion intense about its cousin them sick and tired of this stuff. seconds. no one ever see this again. i want to see you again. in this condition of series. i'm not making this up about all these them notes. how many of these governors to the scene to in saying dance we're doing here today. we're not throwing arms up. we're taking responsibility. we're leading, by example, but i'll tell you what pattern interrupt. we start calling people out by name. judge benitez. by name. judge nelson. i know that may not be put coming we'll tell you what this is unbecoming. i'm not interested. in the status quo ante. do your job. you care about public safety. the u.s. unless you are dressing the number one cause of death for children last year and that's guns. don't lay claim you give a about public safety. all those people, fox prime time really. crimes are number one issue. you not going to deal with the leading cause a crime which is guns. he still think people should have a large capacity magazine clips and weapons of their more. what fronts? absolute fronts. we've got a cross. well, first of all, we have universal health care. your motivation status? we're in a very intensive programs for for workers that are well established that gotten strengthen because of our covid protocols, including our hardest to housing programs, including the former housing budget that we passed last year. the intensive services are provided through extraordinary organizations like all of us and others that are supported the county level. we help support the counties in those efforts. we continue to do more as it relates to the immunization, give these workers a voice and we side that landmark bill last year for farmworkers to organize, which may be the most potent and powerful. that's your to your question. so the state has been strategies and interventions and we have a lot a lot more work. shun the governor when that you spoke with very worried about he's paying for the obviously, that's not where health care so tend >> we have a lot of work and we're in the process of implementing it. he wasn't. he was unaware of the victim services turns out he does. it turns out he does have medicare out. it does have that support. but there may be some copay issues and it will help address that. that's the last thing someone is a victim of should be worried about at that moment. they should be worried about their health and their families south and and and we're going to make sure we're there places. many of this farm have no rights workplace is that the senate might think. >> process, i doesn't have the topic. it about 2 minutes because expect to see and they hold this title. the only border. part of what this community here in california, there are so many. so what are you going to do? we should their safety at the workplace because the school have prevented. he makes a lot of the view that person spoke out, going to do more to fund programs like was going to be more to it. >> our each. we've been doing a community-based organizations all up and down the state of california. things that we initiated scale during the covid efforts. we have to continue to do that across the level of support beyond just the pandemic and that we're in the process of doing all that. we provide free legal services. we provide all kinds of supports their unique in the united states, the kind of supports we're offering. this relates to addressing fundamental issue in that house and housing security scare cities. a problem all across the state. and i think the that the challenges. for some folks, you shut these places down the gun, no place to go and they have no income support. these are complicated issues. no one is naive about that. and we're addressing yeah, it is much more than most states. but again, we have a responsibility to boxes that well, that's that's done in a culturally competent way. the community love. and that that vision that the state realized hyper locally. and that's with, you know, like i said, that's very mindful of that. and for us just to pass the program doesn't solve the problem. the point you are asking who's the least no one knows they have the right has the confidence. we've got to meet people where they are. that's what programs i call a system that it's $0.9. that's not just leave it at that. i mean, you know, i that's it. which one. and there 500 have pie. 600 of them. the bad actors out there, they're good actors out there to some incredible leaders in this community credible 8 they raised the bar for everybody and there are bad apples. asian america afraid these 2 cases bring stop asian hate pay. hope you saying. >> can you make a comment to that? well, look, i'm very mindful it lunar new year. what happened lynn turner's new year's eve day after? we had this tragic experience. we're supposed to be celebrating the next 2 weeks or so. understand that our new year's. front look. communities, such a source of pride strike. and vibrancy. the state of california, the state can lay claim to more people of asian descent. but i grew up in san francisco, 3rd of our population ages said i live in a state where 27% of us are for board over 3rd in san mateo county. what a gift majority minority state. also mindful we saw hate crimes go 177% again. stations last year. what a more modest in some parts of the country. and we have to do more working with phil ting and others. we were able to put 156 million dollars in the budget last year. stop asian hate and supported 79 community-based organizations already. and we're continuing to do more in terms of collecting data work partnership with ucla and others to 7, 8, campaigns and not just to focus on hate crimes. but the things that are reported like bullied and harassed and workplace discrimination, people that aren't served, the stuff that's happening on social media and a call out elected officials that want to use phrases like come flu. we said they're mocking asian community. you see it. you see the same folks out there talking about the china fluor the china virus just the way they say it's not just what they say. you can see right there, racial pride in every single day and night. you know exactly who you are and they are. that all has to be called out. that's that's it. mindful about that as well. victims yesterday's tragedy
