Russia is retaliating for what it claimed was a ukrainian terrorist attack on a critical bridge by unleashing its biggest and most widespread attacks against ukraine and months. At least 11 people were killed in the onslaught. U. S. Officials say theyre worried about the escalating conflict. Our washington correspondent Trevor Shirley brings us the very latest. And those missile strikes killed several people across multiple ukrainian cities and whats being described as a dramatic and severe escalation of the war by russia. Earlier today, russian president Vladimir Putin said the attacks were in retaliation for an explosion on a major bridge in crimea over the weekend. That bridge built by russia in 2018 served as a primary supply crimean peninsul so far no one has officially claimed responsibility for that bridge explosion in the meantime, u. S. Officials fear putin is growing increasingly desperate as Russian Forces continue to lose ground in ukraine. Fears in washington continue that putin may use a small yield Nuclear Weapon in ukraine. If he thinks hes got no other options right now, current and former defense Officials Say the situation there is extremely dangerous. Cornered. Students and teachers are back in class at uc berkeley today after one person was killed in a quadruple shooting near campus over the weekend. Happened saturday night between telegraph and durant. Police say a fight broke out at a pizza parlor just after one. 30 am. And witnesses say they heard gunshots between 4 men and saw the suspects take off in a car. And you are he was like on the ground face facing the ground and people are crowding around him checking up on him. Berkeley police say the suspects are still at large. The incident follows a recent arrest of a woman allegedly involved in a series of attempted kidnappings. Now, disturbing news from the campus of stanford university. A woman says someone raped her while she was working there on friday. The Universitys Department of Public Safety took the report. The victim says at around noon a man came into our office, grabbed her and dragged her to the basement where he raped. Her university has not released a description of the attacker. We will let you know soon as they do. Happening today, jury selection begins for the second trial of movie mogul harvey weinstein. Weinstein is already serving a 23 year sentence for rape and assaults. He was convicted in 2020 of thirddegree rape against a woman in 2013 and sexually assaulting another woman back in 2006. These latest charges include allegations of assault and rape against 5 women in Beverly Hills and Los Angeles Hotels from 2004 to 2013, the women involved will appear in court as jane does to tell their stories. Kanye west, twitter and instagram accounts were locked over the weekend due to antisemitic posts spokespersons for twitter and instagram is Parent Company meta said the messages by west violated their policies on offensive language. The rapper has also been criticized in recent days for wearing a white lives matter tshirt at his runway show during Paris Fashion Week. Livermore had some fog out there, too. Here is the fog cast, though. Were going to get this clear. It was going to be afternoon. If youre the coast, though, not so much. And then tonight, thats about 5 oclock. Youre going to see that fog roll right back in and were going to do that whole rinse, repeat cycle yet again. So its definitely keeping a school in spots. You can see all the green and the yellow on the map. 55 degrees and Half Moon Bay. 61 in oakland. But heres where the sunshine is already right now. Livermore about 70 antioch, about 75 again. I mentioned santa rosa hung out of that fog. So just 64 there and 60 degrees right now in napa. Were going to get some of that sunshine in there. No doubt about it. And the blue skies up there just waiting, just waiting for some have to clear out the can warm us up out out today. So well see highs today about 68 in San Francisco about 85 in nevado. Youll see the higher numbers inland. Obviously with that sun is right now. So 87 in livermore about 81 in san jose. And as i mentioned at the coast will be hard pressed to get any of that sunshine in there. As we take a live look at Half Moon Bay, ill be back in a little bit. Growers flew in from all over the country. After being shut down for 2 years because of the pandemic. They are back and they are roaring. All eyes on the stage right behind me. We have pumpkins from all over the country rolling in. They started weighing the pumpkins at around 07 45am in the morning and they started off small and they will get bigger and bigger as the morning goes on. This was shut down because of the pandemic and they are back just in time for the 50th anniversary of the Half Moon Bay pumpkin festival. And we already have hundreds, if not thousands of people in attendance. This being a school day for some people, they could not be here. But i talked to a father who is here on behalf of his daughter. I also talked to a grower from washington state. You will not believe how these pumpkin start off their life. How small and how big the end of she can germinate. You can do everything. So its its a one years. So hope that herman 8, the competition. I dont think thats going ever happen. But you never know though this giant pumpkin behind me 100 days ago. It was the size of a grape. In 100 days, it goes from grapes eyes. When you pollinate it. To something upwards of 2000 pounds. So its going to take a couple of hours for them to be financed. And the bigger pumpkins around the corner. So theyre starting off slow, getting bigger with every subsequent pumpkin and theyre looking for the winner possibly at around. 23, 2400 pounds. And just in case y,ure wondering, no, the edible of the pumpkins are not edible, you could, but they say wouldnt be tasty at all because theyre very runny because of all that water that we use to get that so big back to you. They look fake promise. Klay today marked Indigenous Peoples day in San Francisco. The International Indian Treaty Council is hosting the 4th annual Indigenous Peoples festival here in the city. It got started just a few minutes ago at the yerba buena gardens between 3rd and 4th street on mission. The festival will celebrate artists and vendors within the Indigenous Community throughout the bay area and the state of california Indigenous Peoples day honors the history and cultures of the native american community. Theres a fatal accident in Sonoma County overnight. Sarah stinson has the very latest details. 2 people walking across the old redwood highway in penn grove were struck by a car killing one and injuring another. Chp says they are still investigating the cause of this crash. Take a look at this map. You can see where it happened on the 5700 block old redwood highway in penn grove, a town in between the cities of petaluma and cotati. We have video from the scene shows this horrific crash last night just before 8 oclock santa rosa, california Highway Patrol responded in, says 2 people in a hyundai driving northbound on old redwood highway hit a pair walking across the street from a parking lot of a bar. The man hit died at the scene and the woman was taken to santa rosa Memorial Hospital with major injuries. The 2 people in the hyundai were not injured. The driver took a dui test and chp says they were not under the influence. No word on if the driver will face any charges. We dont have any more information about the man who died on scene. Chp says the official cause of this crash is still being investigated. They were not able to give us an update on the woman who survived was brought to the hospital. For now, im sara stinson reporting in the newsroom. Back to you. Over in oakland, police broke up several sideshows over the weekend. The first took place Early Saturday Morning on the head and burger offramp from i880, it attracted around 90 cars. Police say people pointed lasers at officers while setting off fireworks. Then Police Received reports of sideshow activity. It near 42nd avenue and foothill boulevard. Several hours later, they found about 50 cars participating there. And while officers were at that sideshow, more activity broke out a few streets over gunshots were heard in the crowd. There. Police say people were also throwing firecrackers rocks and bottles at them. Officers were able to disperse that crowd a short time later. But police have not said if any arrests were made or if any cars were towed. The city of San Franciscos installing new speed bumps at several intersections to try and stop sideshows from happening. Kron. 4 Taylor Bisacky has more details. New speed bumps like these are popping up across San Francisco. As a way to deter sideshows stunt driving in doughnuts. This is a Plymouth Avenue in santa was street in the citys ocean view neighborhood. However, its not the only area seeing changes to its interceptions. So we are kind of in this well, where were going to see that fog in the morning. A little drizzle, even out of the coast in particular. And theyre going to see the sun kind of creep in in the afternoon. Unless youre the coast, you kind of get stuck with those clouds and the fog taking a live look, though, kind of interesting here, too. Theres a low pressure system just sitting right off the coast of southern california. Some of my weather friends are talking about having a little june gloom in october. You can see some of this starting to kick up some Stormy Weather in the mountains that are east of los angeles there. Looking out for that today. But temperatures stay rather mild right now. 66 in santa barbara, 82 in sacramento. And of course, we are still in the 50s here in San Francisco where im happy to say the sunshine is actually starting to break through. So even though were in those 50s oakland rate out. 61 69 in san jose, 70 in livermore, concord, about 64 in santa rosa where that fog was hanging on. So theres that low pressure system most talking about down in southern california. We have High Pressure off the coast. So this pattern is going to keep us pretty mild today. No major weather system kind of bumping anything out of the way. So we stay foggy. We do have a little slight bit of offshore wind, but thankfully nothing that would cause any fire danger. And as we get later into the week, were actually get cooler as we roll our way into wednesday, thursday, friday, well see the temperatures roll back about 3 to 5 degrees. So nothing extreme. Were kind of quiet and, you know, i have to tell you, in october were still on fire season. Im okay with quiet. So well take the fog in the morning. It does bring back those lovely temperatures. A cool temperatures. 68 in San Francisco today is what were looking at for 84 in nevado. 87 in livermore, 81 in san jose. And just a look outside from the east bay shows you some of that sunshine is already out there. So again, well have that marine layer return tonight. Little cooler tomorrow. And even cooler still as we head towards the weekend. Want to mention also tropical system that came Central America as a category one hurricane and now is kind starting to dissipate, right . The 6 people injured in a stabbing spree that left 2 dead in las vegas continue to recover this afternoon. As witnesses who saw the rampage unfold on the strip speak out on what they saw. Police say this chilling Surveillance Video shows the suspect. 32 yearold yoni barrios running away after allegedly stabbing 8 people. Witnesses chased him down and he was caught by yards away. Records show barrios just got to vegas from california earlier in the week after getting kicked out of a friends house 2 days before the attack. Video footage from a las vegas tv station shows barrios asking the photographer for help saying he lost everything he had. Sources tell. Our las vegas affiliate k l a s barrios may have been in the country illegally. Records show barrios was charged with Domestic Violence in california back in 2018, the Police Report from last week States Barrios asked a janitor at the wynn casino if he could good job and also asked him to call immigration. Thats when he left and encountered a group of showgirls. And we that. And then you add marios told police he through the night and the bushes and helped police would shoot him. Our top story this half hour new at noon, a lawsuit alleges the owners of a flooded San Francisco highrise were well aware of the potential for massive water leaks. More than 50 people have been displaced. Kron fours terisa stasio joining us live now with the very latest details terisa. Now out. We just heard from some of the tenants out here that say that their lives have been impacted. So severely by what happened out here. Weve got some video that we want to show you. So that you can see it yourself or they faced a back in june when there was the first flooding. So this is all happening at 33 to it was billed as a luxury complex of many highend amenities. Back in june, there was the first flooding impacting residents forcing them to flee and move into places like hotels and friends and family. Then in august there was a subsequent episode. The building was and shut down. Former residents say that they are out to back grant money to relocate. Some say that they had personal items stolen jewelry check, said has led to identity theft. Lets hear from some of the former tenants about this lawsuit. And its just been incredible. And so if we can, to fast forward to the interior damage unit. You know, our office was completely damage. We have what furniture are cup guy. We had to set up firms into our hallway so that water get and to the other rooms in our we were when the residents residents at the home up for 3 plus years. And we walked out to just go to trader joes to our Grocery Store and never been back apart from all the kind of chaos and disaster that happened. What was what made us come here . And sue hines was actually the incompetency and lack of respect for the residents. Now, all of the tenants say that they have tried to communicate with hines about what happened and get some of their money back. But they have not received anything hands. Why they have filed this lawsuit. The Law Firm Says that they hope to get justice. For those who were so poorly treated in this circumstance, again, in front of the building that well, its completely shut down and tried to talk to some people inside, but theyre mostly just construction workers. Theres really no idea about when the building is going to be back up and running. So the residents say that they have found other places to live. One person. Stephanie, you heard from it. And that sound was that she and her boyfriend moved out of the state that they were so upset and they couldnt find anywhere to rent because, as you know, rents are very expensive for everyone here in the bay area. So certainly the very beginning with this lawsuit to try and see if they can get some their money back and all of the damage as well as emotional issues that they have faced because of this reporting live here in San Francisco theresa back to you. Definitely trees. I mean, it is so expensive to rent an apartment. And San Francisco looks like a nice luxury apartment complex. As well. You mentioned that some of their stuff had been stolen. Is that due to transients going into the building or something . And i saw those signs said, know, transient entry is that what was happening . Well, according stephanie, who lived here, she said that people had come into the place so she doesnt know necessarily someone just enter to win. There was all of the flooding or, for example, maybe possibly some of the workers have gone. And she knows that for a fact that she had 2 checks stolen from her nightstand and that they became fraud and that she believes that she is now a victim of identity theft. And shes constantly looking into or credit cards and making sure that someones not using her information. She said that she had jewelry stolen. Someone else said that there was a rolex stolen and their apartments. So will a lot of issues. Its a pretty long length. A lawsuit just kind of itemizing some of the problems in the pain. That so many of the tenants a pretty complicated case. They say its going to probably take quite some time to unpack it all. Lots of stress and recess to see a live for us. Temperatures go. Thank you. New data from the San Francisco Health Department shows the citys first decline in Drug Overdose deaths in 3 years. Despite that encouraging sign Public Health Officials Say overdose numbers remain at crisis levels. Overall. The very latest numbers here. Look at Substance Use trends through last year in 2021, almost 630 people died from Drug Overdoses involving opioids, cocaine or meth. Thats an 11 decrease compared to 2020. But it still 41 above prepandemic levels. Fentanyl remained the primary driver of Overdose Deaths in the city with an accounting for 75 of overdose cases. The report also highlighted the inequities that persist as africanamericans in San Francisco experience in overdose death rate 5 times higher than the citywide total. The department of health says these numbers illustrate the need for a citywide approach to lower the risks for people who use drugs. People living in the city can start visiting city halls Voting Center to cast their ballots register to vote or request a mailin ballot. The Voting Center opens every weekday between 08 00am and 05 00pm. Citi also opened 34 official ballot drop boxes for the election. Theyre at various locations across San Francisco. List of them can be found on the citys website. Ballot drop boxes will be open until 08 00pm on election day. Los Angeles City Council president Nury Martinez has resigned from her post. This comes after she was heard on a leaked audio recording making racist remarks about the son of a fellow Council Member and other comments in a conversation with fellow latino leaders in the audio leaked to the la times, martinez can be heard describing councilman mike bonnens adopted black son as a quote, Little Monkey and spanish. The comments were made during a discussion regarding bone and his son participating in a Martin Luther king junior parade several years ago. That recorded conversation included other repeated vulgar and antiblack commentary. Martinez released a statement yesterday apologizing for her comments. But this morning she made another statement saying she would be resigning as president of la city council effective immediately. We were just talking about how nice it is, though, to have a little bit of moisture as were still tecunically in fire season. So this yes, not a bad thing. No, its not. We get that moisture recovery every day. We get that fog in there. That makes a big difference for us because of course, were holding out for rain looking for that one big rain. In october, the generally gets us to the end of fire season. Were not there yet. No doubt about it. Sunshine starting to work its way in as we take a look from the east bay, but certainly that cloud cover is still pervasive around the bay and its keeping things cool. If youre pacifica, just 60 degrees right now, but yet inland a concord, were already up to 70 65 in berkeley about 66 in petaluma and santa lena is about 69 degrees today. So a little bit cool. We do have a little bit of offshore wind, just a tiny bit of it. Not enough to cause a fire danger, though. So that is the good news. This is the time of year ook out for that offshore wind live look at Half Moon Bay shows you the few people still out there, but its going to be cloudy there today. One of the spots, it will likely stay relatively cool as we see that cloud deck. You know, its giving us a little break in spots, but no doubt about it. It is going to roll back in as we get into about the 5, 6 oclock time frame. Also low pressure system off the coast of los angeles. But for those older folks and and people are immune compromised, if they havent gotten a booster, particularly in 2022, they would be at risk for getting seriously ill.
