Menlo park was the scene of a tragic accident between a caltrain and a car. And part of the problem is the intersection that is block down from where the collision happened. The intersection of oak grove avenue and alma street causes cars to back up all the time when the signal turns red. Several cars are stopping on the tracks putting themselves in dangerous situations. this last accident was needless, we need some kind of safety device for example a laser ranger could tell the train to stop pam caltrain says that in order to solve the problem cities need to build grade separations at crossings. But grade separations are costly so in the meantime, officals are telling drivers stop, look and listen at crossings before another accident happens. This caltrans accident was one of three in the last few days tonight berkeley could become the first, large bay area city to ban drones. The controversial issue is at the center of a debate tonight. Kron 4s jeff bush is there to tell us what happened. Jeff . Jeff Law Enforcement agencies across the country are testing out the usefullness of unmanned aerial vehicles, or drones like this. There are a lot of legitimate uses for the new technology but the concern for abuse is something that the peace and Justice Commission of berkeley is concerned about. It will be easier to regulate drones now rather than later. Berkeley needs to pass this resolution pledging no drones for the next two years and urge the state to do the same. And urge the state and federal government to prohibit all information gathered by drones to be introduced as evidence. That is the recommendation from the commission and members of the community seem to agree with that finding. privacy laws currently in california are not Strong Enough to ensure responsible use. Drones are a military weapon weather they are weaponized or just used for observation. if you gave the Fire Department, for example, the use of drones to only be used by the Fire Department and pretended to only be used by the fire deparment that wouldnt be true. Charles the Hercules Police departments says they have spoken with ian taha about the incident and reviewed his video. They say the matter is now a personnel investigation and have made no further comment. Its hard for me to believe as a citizen of hercules. Charles tuesday afternoon, hercules vice mayor dan romero said that he finds tahas racial profiling accusation hard to swallow. Knowing the officers they interact with the community at different types of functions its hard to believe that kind of accusation. Charles romeros says that the chief of police is responsible for investigating any claims of wrong doing against an officer. If there is cause for concern, the chief would take the case to the hercules city manager. And the city manager and the police chief will take action on whatever come out of the investigation. I just hope they take it very seriously. Im going to take it to an attorney and im going to take it to the next level until i get some answers.
