Reporter when jesse shields saw the fire moving toward her fence, she used a garden hose to keep the flames away until firefighters got to the scene. At one point, it got too hot. I had to run back. The fire started coming up so i said i had to get out of here. I had to go look for the dog and they are knocking and saying get out. Reporter but the work she did paid off. The flames flames skipped her house and continued to the home next door. It just jumped across her house and started running across. Reporter with more than 40 charred acres, there were more than 50 evacuations. Although these two homes are completely gutted, firefighters focus on preserving jesses residence. We decided if we cant save those two structures, they put a line in the sand there and those guys hustled like you would never see to keep our house from burning up. Impressive. Reporter fire officials believe this massive fire started on the roadside along i 80 then quickly spread. The red cross set up an Evacuation Center at Fairfield High School to help people displaced by the blaze who needed a safe haven. We have snacks and hydration available for them. A place to sit and rest. We have a couple of families with animals so we have provided some dog food for them and some water and things like that. We have some children here, and, we had some diapers, provided some diapers. The red cross is putting up at least one family tonight. Many people have also come in to find out if their dogs have been spotted. Today marked the first day of school for some in the bay area and it was a day marked with tragedy in danville. 17yearold Robert Orlando who was about to begin his senior year in high school was killed last night when the car he was a passenger in lost control and hit a tree. It happened near the crow Canyon Country club. Two other students were hurt in the accident. Kron 4s jr stone spoke to his friends who are devastated by the loss. Reporter his name was Robert Orlando. His High School Buddies still cant believe he is gone. I will never forget him. He will be in my heart forever. Reporter roberts best friend was overcome by tears as he remembered his pal and the story behind this hat and this picture. Robert got the winning bunt. We came back 13 runs in one inning. Robert got the winning rbi to win us the championship of that season. So that is the one time i ever won any kind of championship. It was because of him you know . Im going to miss him so much, man. He made people around him happy. Every second of the day. He just, like, i dont know. He was just such a happy person. The massive yosemite rim fire has grown by thousands more acres, the newest numbers tonight from cal fire indicate more than 184,000 acres have now burned and containment is still only at 20 . To the north of be i am, they worked on containment lines to keep the flames from advancing to highway 108. They put out spot fires and protected structures along i 20. In Yosemite National park, the flames have reached hetch hetchy. We dont know if they have caused any damage at the reservoir. They have protected two giant sequoyah groves. They put sprinklers on the trees and they hope that is enough to stop the fire if it reaches this far. For the rest of yosemite, it is pretty much business as usual. You go into the park, it is hard to tell there is a fire just 20 miles away because the smoke is flowing away from the valley. The views of el capitan are still as beautiful as ever. Currently, the San FranciscoPublic UtilitiesCommission Says some ash has fallen onto the surface of the reservoir, but it has not impacted the quality of the water. New tonight at 11 00, two thieves who posed as utility workers to get inside peoples homes in vallejo have been identified according to police. They say that these men are responsible for an august 7 Home Invasion robbery in vallejo. Ray fernando on the left has been arrested. The second Darryl Lee Cox remains at large and is wanted for questioning in the same crime. Police say the suspect tied up members of a family and robbed them at gunpoint. Police add similar crimes have been happening recently in several cities where thieves are posing as utility workers to get inside peoples homes to steal.
