Tourists see as they walk through the a very San Franciscoy neighborhood. At about 9 30 sunday morning, nick major and his girlfriend were at home, on the third floor of a russian hill building. We heard about 20 or so popping noises. Didnt think much of it. Thought it was maybe firecrackers or what have you. Police say there were two cars involved in a shootout. An eyewitness says one of the cars was a charcoal colored sedan. I saw the red bmw reach out again with the gun on the drivers side. But both cars were gone by the time officers arrived. Once the commotion started happening, a few police started showing up and then kind of a crowd gathered. So once that happened, we kinda saw something was going on. Nobody got hurt, and police dont have any suspects. The only victim, if you want to call it that, may have been this white audi that was parked along polk street. It belongs to majors girlfriend. Turns out we came outside to put something in the car, and then came to find out her car got shot. They filed an insurance claim, and have an apparaiser comign out on monday. As far as they know, theirs was the only car damaged. But other neighbors noticed some markings on garage doors that they hadnt seen before. Oh, that looks like a bullet hole. Dont want that to happen, especially just a few feet from where we were. Its definitely a little disconcerting. Police found casings in the area, but dont have any other information about what happened sunday morning. In San Francisco, Spencer Blake, kron four news. jr stone another big story tonight. A crane at risk of falling on firefighters and homes near a construction site that burned down yesterday. Is no longer a threat tonight. The crane was seen dangling around two this morning on san pablo avenue in emeryville. Firefighters say 35 residents who temporarily evacuated because of the crane. Have returned to the area. Power has also been restored to homes in the area. And firefighters say all hot spots have been successfully put out. No one was injured. But the flames damaged four townhouses next to the construction site. Its unknown what started the fire. This is the second time in less than a year that the construction site has burned. jr stone a child is still in serious condition tonight after a house fire in oakland. It happened around two in the morning yesterday. The home was located near 73rd and bancroft. Firefighters found the child trapped in the back of building and rushed the child to the hospital. The fire was put out in 20 minutes. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. jr stone in world news. North korea launched, what south korea is calling, a Ballistic Missile earlier today. Japan says the missile landed in water between north korea and japans west coast. The launch comes two weeks after north korea tested a Ballistic Missile, which us and south korean officials said failed. North korea has previously attempted at least nine missile launches on six occasions since us President Donald Trump was inaugurated in january. Schools receive fourbillion dollars in medicaid reimnbursements annually. Administrators say any cut will be difficult to absorb after state funding reductions and a weaker tax base. According to administrators Even Services beyond those funded by the statecould be at risk if Congress Follows through with cuts. School leaders are now waiting to see if those cuts survive the senate. And dismissed allegations that substandard materials were used to build the dam. Back in february the nations tallest dam forced thousands of people to evacuate after two of its spillways failed. Governor jerry brown has asked for federal assistance in dealing with the oroville dam repairs. Concerned she rushed to help only to find it was a plot to extort her out of thousands of dollars by preying on her emotion. Cherelle bassett got a phone call at her san carlos home thursday morninganswering machine nats you have reached the law office of walter morrision and james boesman. from a man posing as her grandson who sais he was in jail and another on the line alleging he was a lawyer representing him. Sot cherelle bassett, targeted by scam caller and he says im so sorry but please dont tell my mom. And i didnt want to betray him so i said okay. Together they asked bassett to buy 45 hundred dollars in best buy gift cards and read them the serial numbers on the back claiming no other form of payment would be accepted for bail money. Concerned she called her grandson who was fine all along. Thats when they found out shed been scammed. Sot krissy mangiola, daughter i was just so mad that this happened to her because ive heard of this before a friend of mine whose dad got taken for 10,000 and its just horribly cruel. Consumer expert Erica Sandberg says its common for thieves to target seniors over the phone because theyre most vulnerable and the money can be made fast.
