I think were seeing an attack on a womens right to choose, an attack on womens rights in the workplace. The rally started at the frank ogawa plaza. Among the protesters. Civil Rights Groups Union Leaders and families with children. You cant lead the country if you dont have love for the country and for all the people in the country and i feel like our leaders are lacking that, this administration is lacking that right now. The event started at the frank ogawa plaza. Where women wore red in Honor International womens day. Many women stayed home to show the importance of a womans role in the workplace. Im 68years years old and i was a feminist in the 60s and i thought that we were going to have made progress by now but whats happening is our rights are being taken away from us and there is actually a war on women and a war on womens rights. They made their voices heard and carried signs calling for women to join the resistance. And to persist. Among the speakers the organizers of the grab your wallet boycott. Trying to get companies to drop products associated with the trump brand. Many people at the rally say they took the day off work or school because they wanted to show their economic power. catherine in berkeley. Around 300 people recognized the day on the cal campus. The crowd listened to speakers talk about topics from wage equality. To the black lives matter movement. Campus police were there. Just in case. But no problems. The rally was described as passionate but also peaceful. steve here is a look at some of the other marches and rallies across the country. A large group showed up outside city hall in los angeles. In new york city. Women staged a rally not far from trump tower. There were some arrests at that event. And in washington, d. C. A show of support from members of congress. A group of women wearing red led by nancy pelosi and barbara lee converged on the steps outside the capitol building. Not far from washington dc there was actually schools that had to close in virginia because so many teachers took the day off. catherine tonight a mother who was injured in a Small Plane Crash in Southern California has died. That plane had been headed to san jose. steve the plane crashed into homes in riverside. Her name is stacey pierce. This is her with her family. Three others were also killed including her father who was the pilot and her mother. The group was coming home from watching a cheerleading competition in disneyland. catherine kron4s alecia reid is live tonight in san jose with reaction from her husband. Staceys legs were amputated, and she had burns to her body. She was supposed to get skin grafts today, and the family was optimistic, thinking shed be finebut then we got word she passed away from her injuries last night. That was a week to the day of that fatal crash. During the time stacey was awake after the accident, she wasnt talking, but she was able to communicate that she didnt remember any of it. Her husband richard told her bits and pieces, but left out the part that her mother and step dad died. 5 were on board the cessna turbo 310 q. They were heading back to san jose from a cheerleading conference for her daughter in riverside. There was too much luggage on the plane, so her daughter decided to get on the bus with her teammates and head back. Staceys 83 year old stepdad was the pilot, with decades of experience. Richard believes it was the bad weather that caused the plane to crash on a number of homes. The plane crashed shortly after impact. This is a lot to deal with, but richard says he now has to be strong for their children. Standup another fatality from the plane crash, was 22 year old adine fahrelis a family friend. The fifth passenger is still hospitalized. Reporting live from san jose. Sheriffs deputies in Santa Clara County have arrested this man. Rajeev sanhi. Hes accused of stalking four underaged girls earlier today. Detectives say hes believed to have stalked at least 19 young girls. Victims say they were repeatedly approached by sanhi. And that he offered them gifts like money, and movie tickets. One victim says he followed her home more than a dozen times. Sanhi is now in the Santa Clara County jail. steve happening now police are looking for the criminals who robbed a mother at gunpoint while her baby was in the backseat. catherine the crime happened in San Francisco. Fortunately, both the woman and her baby are okay. steve but police are warning the suspects are armed and dangerous. Kron 4s Hermela Aregawi has new video of the men from the night of the crime. These are the men who robbed a single mom and a veteran at gunpoint just before 10 30 friday night. The victim was parking her car in the garage of her Mission District apartment on florida street when the two approached her. One of the suspects who was unarmed, grabbed the child from the seat, pulling the child out of the vehicle. The suspects didnt take the vehicle. But did get away with a backpack full of personal items and some cash the mom took our for her daughters upcoming birthday. Police say. 20 minutes after that incident. They received a report of a carjacking on the 600 block of hampshire street. Frank navarro was stabbed to death last month while working security at a san jose nightclub. Catherine Santos trevino is accused of having done the stabbing. Joseph esquivel is accused of being involved. He also made his First Court Appearance today. Theyre among the six suspects. Charged in the murder. Police say all 6 of them played a role in the death of Frank Navarro. So not only is the person who actually stabbed Frank Navarro but everyone else that participated and had a role in the violence at tres gringos our office is going to hold them criminally liable for their actions that night. Catherine Trevino and esquivel did not enter pleas. Theyll be back in court march 21st. 3 other suspects will also be in court. The sixth suspect. Anxious homeowners in pleasanton are hoping that Emergency Repair work will save their homes. At least two houses are dangerously close to falling into a creek. Today kron4s Charles Clifford got a hold of the city to find out what is being done. Natswednesday afternoon, arroyo creek here along the western edge of pleasanton was flowing peacefully. Thats welcome news for neighbors who have watched for weeks as high water in the creek tore away at edges of their property ginger belshe says that her family is terrified that if the creek rises again, they could lose their home. The questions now is how will this problem get fixed. On wednesday, we reached out to the city of pleasanton for comment and they said they are doing what they can to get work started here. When asked exactly whos responsible for the work they suggested contacting the zone 7 Water District and the army corp of engineers. We reached out to the Water District and have not heard back. We also contacted the army corp of engineers and no one was available to comment. According to neighbor ted smith, the Water District actually does have a plan to stop the erosion by rebuilding the shore bank with rocks. It back up to its natural state. Finally, its unclear when the repairs will begin. Heavy machinery is parked in the area and crews were seen surveying the creek on wednesday, but so far the work has not started. Theyre considering whether the victims are eligible for financial aid. Those victims will have a chance to weigh in on how theyre doing tomorrow afternoon. There will be a public hearing on why there wasnt more warning. An early damage estimate after the flooding 73million dollars. Its believed some kind of financial help is likely. There are several key expectations for tomorrows hearing. Trt 18 one, we need to get all the information out to the public. This will be the start of a vetting of all that happened and what went wrong and two, were going to talk about an action plan about what were going to do in the next week, the next month and the next year to make sure this doesnt happen again. The hearing is scheduled to begin at san joses city hall at 3oclock tomorrow afternoon. steve happening now Berkeley Police released new photos they hope will help them catch several people involved in a violent protest. catherine the fights broke out at a march for trump rally between supporters of the president and protesters. steve these are the six suspects police are looking for. Take a close look most of the fights were brief. But police want to get these six. A few of them are seen throwing punches. One even appears to be bleeding from the mouth. catherine ten people have already been arrested. Police say theyve seized lots of weapons carried by demonstrators including bats, shields and helmets. It began as a demonstration in support of President Trump. Things got rough when a Counter Group showed up. New at 10. Sacramento police are seeking charges against over 100 people from violence that erupted during a rally by selfdescribed white nationalists. Take a listen. This was the violent scene at the state capital back in june. When counter protesters confronted members of the traditionalist worker party. California Highway Patrol is seeking 68 felony charges and more that 500 misdemeanor charges against 16 people. For activities raning from Unlawful Assembly to assault with a deadly weapon. 14 people sufered stab wounds, cuts, and bruises. Tonight calBerkeley Police have called off the search for an Armed Robbery suspect. Officers spent several hours searching several dorm buildings late this afternoon. Kron 4s j. R. Stone is following the story and joins us live from berkeley. J. R. , what are police saying tonight . They say this area is safe despite the fact that no arrests were made. This is an area near Underhill Field where thousands of uc Berkeley Students live. This is it looked like late this afternoon as uc Berkeley Police looked for a man believed to be armed with a gun. Video from our helicopter partnership with abc 7 news. They sent out four nixle alerts about what was going on. They searched several of the dorm buildings at uc berkeley. Specifically a dorm building called unit one. The man was wanted in connection with an Armed Robbery. Police did not say where that Armed Robbery happened but had a section of the unit 1 dorm building roped off with yellow crime tape. There have been at least a dozen robberies in berkeley in the last six months. Most recently robberies at cafes where electronics were stolen. Students i talked with say it was concerning to hear what was going on but they were happy to be alerted. These past few months berkeley really hasnt been that safe and i think it really helps to see these notifications so that it warns people to be more alert about their surroundings. Nowadays now in my fifth year i feel like each year it becomes a little bit not safe like the previous year. Anytime when someone has possession of a firearm and theyre not trained to use it and maybe mentally unstable theres a risk to not only themselves but everybody around them but that risk just balloons with a weapon like a gun. But high pressurre over much of california will keep the weather very mild with highs running 5 to 10 degrees above average. Tonight will be mostly clear with some patchy fog moving along the coast and into the bay late tonight. You can see High Pressure bulding in for thurdays to make it likely the warmest day of the week. Some temperatures inland could reach the mid 70s if you plan to travel around the state, you will find warm weather in Southern California and into the monterey bay. Rain is still likely in far norther california. It still looks great if you want to head up to the mountains to the snow. Fire crews say the horse coulnt get out after getting stuck up to his chest. Firefighters were able to divert the water from the sand. And pull the horse out. The large mammal was then able to walk away without injury. Firefighters are blaming the barrage of recent storms. And how thankful the woman is who was rescued. grant marianita gallardo didnt have time to take her walker. She didnt even know there was a fire in her antioch garage. As she was eating lunch. But someone passing by saw it. And went and got her out. Smoke was seen in much of eastern contra costa county. No serious injuries. One thankful lady. And no sign of this Good Samaritan who took off once 911 was called. And he knew no one else was in the house. Was killed by her own fatherinlaw with a hammer. catherine it happened in suisun city. As reporter ali wolf tells us police say the suspect was upset over howhe says he was disrespected. A suisun city family. Torn apart by murder. Investigators say the brutal attack happened Tuesday Morning in the garage of this home on bluebill way. chief tim mattos Suisun City Police department the victim had major Blunt Force Trauma to the head and was pronounced dead at the scene police chief tim mattos says 63 year old Amarjit Singh confessed to attacking his 29 year old daughter in law shameena bibi, with a hammer. chief tim mattos Suisun City Police department mr. Singh indicated there was an argument over him being upset at the victim disrespecting hima deadly dispute over respect. Mattos says singh and his wife live at the home with bibi, her husband, and their two year old son. For most of tuesday, that home became a crime scene. Swarming with investigators and fbi evidence teams in hazmat suits. Investigators had to bring in a punjabi translator to help conduct interviews with family members. Thats how they ultimately determined singh was responsible. For killing the mother of his young grandchild. commander andrew white Suisun City Police department then he subsequently provided in depth detail about how the murder occurredfox40 went back to the home wednesday. Has not had a murder in more than a year. The fbi has been called in to help with the investigation. steve in sunnyvale. Investigators receive a new photo. Possibly connected to an unsolved homicide. This is the photo. Capturing a suspicious car wanted in connection to the 2014 homicide of 20yearold ernesto castro. The department of of Public Safety released the image. In hopes that someone will come forward. Police say castro was near the picnic area in encinal park. With a group of friends. Thats when castro was fatally shot on august second of 2014. The car is described as a 1990s gold or tan honda civic or accord. steve wildfires are burning in at least five u. S. States. Forcing evacuations and killing at least 7 people in the midwest five in texas, one in kansas and one in oklahoma. catherine the Deadly Wildfires have burned more than amillion acres in those three states. In texas, 325thousand acres have burned in the panhandle. Three of the five people who died were ranchers who were trying to save cattle. Fire marshals are investigating the deaths, and are trying to figure out how the fires began. Crews in Central Kansas are working to contain a wildfire. Which has already burned400thousand acres. Its 75 contained tonight. 8 homes have been destroyed and others damaged. Two firefighters were treated for minor injuries. steve in oklahoma, more than 800 thousand acres burned. And it is only 10 percent contained. Crews say the lack of precipitation with strong winds is fueling the fire. Is being credited with rescuing more than 300 people in last months devastating flooding. catherine the majority of those rescues. Happening in the rock springs neighborhood. Our grant lodes visited that neighborhood. And the rescuers. Hes here now to walk us through what it was like. Saving so many lives. grant these guys say theyre not heroes. They were just ready. And trained to do their job. But, there were several rescuers there in san jose two weeks ago. Who were also in new orleans. Helping with the katrina flooding disaster. They said the san jose flooding was similar. Just a smaller version of katrina. Wading through filthy, sewage filled water that kept rising. They went door to door. Finding people. And then leading them to safety. The pain was. And still is. Palpable. Lives were derailed that fateful february day in san jose. Many are still living in shelters. But thanks to the Fire Departments urban search and rescue team. No one died. No one was injured. But. Capt. Jeff riley, kinda pandemonium when we showed up hien nguyen, rescued in flood it was so scary because that is the first time in my life i have to face that disaster. Riley water keeps coming up. The tops of cars. Now barely visible. Riley it had the potential of going at least 4 5 6 feet higher. 32 specially trained firefighters. Using four rescue boats. Riley were taking the boats as close as we can and our rescuers are in dry suits with floatation devices. As they find people theyre going to wade them through the water and then lift them into the boats as much as they can. Hein nguyen. Had a couple feet of water in her living room. Nguyen i told them rescue the older people because i knew my neighbor was over 80 to 90 years old. Grant and youre only 70. Im only 70. Hien so i tried to get out by myself. Everyone got out. Many. Needed comforting. Grant how panicked were people . Jeff this is something people have never experienced before and they dont know, they dont know the waters not going to go over their head quickly. Grant su in the flood zone, you see two car seats caked in flood water, this vehicle surely will have to be towed away at some point and just to give you some perspective on how high the water got, this fence is about 4. 5 feet the water was just about that at its peak. Im 6 feet tall, so you can imagine why so many people were so fearful and those rescuers were so needed. Fire chief Curtis Jacobson when we get into extremely difficult situations which our normal engine and Truck Companies cant handle, these are the guys we call to do extraordinary things and theyve come through time after time. Im very proud of this event. Were always prepare for the worst case scenario. The earthquake, the structural collapse, the people who are trapped. San jose fires urban search and rescue team.
