The investigation led oakland to go through three police chiefs. Four current or former officers are also facing charges in the scandal. Abuslin was originally looking for 66Million Dollars. Oaklands City Attorney recommended that the city settle for just under a Million Dollars. Around 2 this morning, the Oakland City Council approved a 989 thousand dollar settlement. Lydia. lydia when police got to the scene they found 51year old earnest howard unresponsive. He was later pronounced dead at the scene. This is video of where it happened. The area where it happened is clearly marked. Police officers found 51year old earnest howard of vallejo just after 9 30 last night on columbus parkway north of tennessee street in vallejo. Police say howard was struck by a vehicle in the southbound lane as he attempted to Cross Columbus parkway, and was thrown into the northbound lane. The driver then took off. While i was there getting video i saw cars racing up and that down the street pretty fast. The speed limit is 40miles per hour but cars seemed to be going a lot faster than that. Also in the area where howard was walking there was a bus stop but im not sure if thats where he was headed. Officers are working to determine if alcohol, drugs or any distractions contributed to the accident. The 10 year old boy walked away with just scratches after flipping over the side of the emerald plunge slide at the brand new the wave water park. Calosha is leading the investigation into why the boy was ejected. They did an inspection in april before the park opened and say the slide had a total of 17 problems. But when the slide was inspected again on friday, they say it was ready to operate the next day. averi the maker of the water slide reached out to kron four. She is now on unpaid administrative leave pending the outcome of the case. mark an east Bay Community is mourning again after two more young lives were lost. The two teenagers who died in this crash on memorial day in alameda went to school in the new Haven Unified School district in union city. The 17year olds have been identified as Brianna Ortega and simon sotelo. These deaths come after three other students in the district died recently. One of those tragedies, just a few weeks ago on mothers day. Counselors were brought in to help students and staff members. 7 people were inside the truck at the time of the accident. It happened monday morning when police discovered a honda civic was stolen from davis. Police say they tried to pull the car over but it took off. The chase began on interstate80 and ended at the retail outlets. Shortly after the car came to a halt shots were fired, killing the suspect. Police have not identified the man involved. mark the tennessee teacher charged with fleeing the state with a 15yearold student pleaded not guilty in federal court. 50yearold tad cummins is charged with taking a minor across state lines for sex, and obstruction of justice. Police say howard was struck by a vehicle in the southbound lane as he attempted to Cross Columbus parkway, and was thrown into the northbound lane. The driver then took off. While i was there getting video i saw cars racing up and that down the street pretty fast. The speed limit is 40miles per hour but cars seemed to be going a lot faster than that. Also in the area where howard was walking there was a bus stop but im not sure if thats where he was headed. Officers are working to determine if alcohol, drugs or any distractions contributed to the accident.
