The massive storm is moving up the florida east coast, bringing with it heavy rain. More than 100 Miles Per Hour wind. It is here. It is absolutely here. Reporter Officials Say that the effects of matthew will be unlike any hurricane in decades and that some places it may become, quote, uninhabitable for weeks or months. They are starting to see the impact and it is a monster. Again, our number one priority is protecting every life in this state park reporter power lines are down across the state, hundreds of thousands without power, but despite repeated calls to evacuate, and predictions of a devastating storm surge 11 feet of storm surge so in your house, if you are close, you could have the storm surge and waves over the rooftops. Reporter some people say that they are staying put. We are all scared but we think that we are going to be okay. Nobody knows. I have been through all of the storms. This is just another one. Reporter matthew is not just another storm, especially for northern florida. You are looking at live pictures of Daytona Beach, south of here, and they are feeling quite the brunt of matthew. You can see the powerful waves and that intense storm surge and the flooding of the beach. That is on the way to jacksonville. We are expecting something from that within the next couple of hours. More than half 1 Million People in florida without power right now. That number is undoubtedly it will go up exponentially. Reporting live in jacksonville, diane gallagher. In the meantime, they are dealing with the devastation in haiti after Hurricane Matthew hit there. The death toll is at 283 confirmed dead in the southwestern part of haiti hit by the eye of the hurricane and these are new pictures in the clown for newsroom showing the devastation. Government officials do expect that death toll to rise as Emergency Responders are getting to the remote areas left isolated antibodies have started to appear as the waters recede. Team coverage of the hurricane covers it continues but youre showing us the eye Daytona Beach things are about to get worse. It is making a beeline for Daytona Beach and abner jacksonville, and you can see it is not just to the north experiencing some outer bands as the storm goes in her direction as well. It was a category for mike yesterday and the difference is that the inner wall of the eye has broken down basically and the outer eye wall has taken over and it has slowed the speed down at least a part of it but it is moving around pretty fast i take a sample reading of some of the rainfall rates and it can range anywhere from. 5 in. h to up to 1. 5 inches in these areas that are orange and the color red and you can see that is what they are dealing with in some communities along the coast. I want to show you with what they are dealing with in terms of watches and warnings the majority of ford and a good portion of georgia, South Carolina and the North Carolina coastline under any form of hurricane or Tropical Storm warning, a watch or a warning and that impacts 25 Million People it is 600,000 people without power and it is going to be here for a little while. The storm track, current position, category three matt, reducing energy just a bit, dropping down to category 2 by tomorrow morning and entering South Carolina coastline at that point, and then it will start to pull away once it gets up towards North Carolina. This is early sunday morning and it starts to make a hug, a beeline for the bahamas once again. You can see its position expected on monday and Tuesday Morning and by wednesday we could see round 2 for the bahamas and maybe even the southern tip of florida in the form of a Tropical Storm. We are tracking it. Hurricane matthew is impacting flights in the bay area today. Forcing flights have already been canceled because of the storm. They were scheduled to fly in or out of fort lauderdale, miami, and orlando. The airport closed out and they canceled their flights yesterday the Orlando Airport closed last night and they do expect to resume some flights tomorrow. The Miami International airport is officially open but the airlines and stopped operating yesterday. Airport Officials Say that they expect flights to resume sometime today. Temperatures will increase a lot especially in land. We will see upper 80s today, low 80s around the bay and low 70s along the coast. We will have all of your highs coming up next. It happened in an area where there have been several freeway shootings in the past but police are not confirming what they were investigating. We get more information and we will bring it to you. Creepy clown threats are sweeping the nation and the bay area and police in san mateo are now investigating the creepy clown social media pose that threaten high schools there this week. We want to mention that these are mainly hoaxes but there were similar in oakland and fairfield and police in concord are looking for a man dressed like a clown and as a woman claims that the clown tried to take her one yearold child from a bus stop. The latest school to get threats was Clayton Valley charter high school. Averi harper is live in concord outside of the Police Department with more on how they are responding. Reporter i have actually moved to the high school that has been threatened, and the list of schools been threatened by these creepy clown threats continues to grow. This is just one of the latest. Emergency officials leading to evacuation 2 Million People from the florida coast all the way up to georgia and South Carolina, told to leave lowlying coastal areas an emergency officials are telling people you are going to have to hunker down. Right in the bay area, these are a peek at the temperatures, 57 in San Francisco, 52 for oakland, 54 for san jose, looking at 51 degrees in livermore, 52 for concord and chilly in santa rosa, 45 degrees. Planning your day today, the Cool Temperatures are going to burn off and we will see warm temperatures and lots of sunshine around lunchtime. A live look at the ride into San Francisco, backed up at the bay bridge toll plaza and we do not normally see that on friday morning. Nothing going on, on the bridge, or in downtown San Francisco. Maybe folks are enjoying fleet week or maybe shopping or find but it is packed and heavier than normal, 20 minutes from the days out of fremont street checking in, you will find unusual slowing into San Francisco. Check out the traffic south 101 on the Golden Gate Bridge on the lefthand side of your screen. There is an accident, southbound, south of the toll plaza, blocking one lane on the righthand side, and it is jamming up traffic all the way across the bridge, coming from the north day, so 30 minutes from novato over to San Francisco. That is definitely not normal so make sure that you leave early. The bridge of earlier hotspot, very slow, an accident that was blocking for over one hour, so you will hit unusual slowing for west 84, 37 minutes from fremont across the bridge and into menlo park and this is the alternate, 92, the san mateo bridge moving better but it is also heavy, typical commute traffic and it will save you time but it is not smith 32 minutes from hayward to the 101 connector so heavy all around the bay area. No major accidents working, the usual stop and go traffic for west format, south 680 looks good from dublin until fremont and not to that, 40 minutes from 238 until 237 and no major trouble spots. 7 19 am and the big news this morning, new Jersey Transit train, that crashed last week accelerated before it crashed federal investigators say that the train was moving at 8 Miles Per Hour, 38 seconds before the crash, and then it sped up to 21 Miles Per Hour, and it hit the platform at the hoboken terminal. The speed limit into the station is 10 Miles Per Hour. Investigators say that the engineer put on the emergency brake less than one second before the collision. One person was killed and more than 110 others were injured the ntsb says that investigation is in the early stages and it could take more than one year to complete. We are learning about Sexual Assault that was reported on a stanford campus. A graduate student is accused of sexually assaulting a woman on campus. He has been identified as 22 yearold and he was arrested after a woman said that he assaulted her in a residents hall. Police say that the two were dating and the victim is not a stanford student. The santa clara dm is now deciding if they should file charges. 7 20 am is the time and police in the east bay last a major sex trafficking operation and san leandro investigators say that the home there had been causing problems for months. Police say this aloha drive house was not a typical home for living. There was no food or furniture and each room had a mattress on the floor and a plastic table. Reporter the blast came to a head after detectives visited a website frequented by johns and they set up a date for sex in exchange for money. They agreed to perform sex acts for 160 and they said is the address. We have not had any activity or action on the bridge but the backup stretches through the maze and it is onto 580 from those onto 80 west and it is right around 18, 22 minutes from the foot of the maze out to fremont street and it will not pick up until after fremont street so it is jammed all the way across. This will throw you off, so leave early from the north bay into San Francisco. An accident at the Golden Gate Bridge toll plaza south of the camera. You cannot see it. It is south of the toll plaza blocking one lane and no injuries reported but it is backed up all the way across the bridge in the southbound direction from the vista point so give yourself an extra 15 minutes to 20 minutes for south 101. We will talk about the other spots in the next report. Back to breaking News Coverage of Hurricane Matthew which continues to pummel of the Atlantic Coast of florida right now. Lets take a look at the strong winds and torrential rain that is battering florida as we speak. This is the category 3 hurricane and it has one of up to 120 and the eye wall is brushing Cape Canaveral, bringing wind gusts of 100 Miles Per Hour. 2 Million People from georgia to florida to South Carolina were warranted to flee from lowlying coastal areas as the Power Outages continue to grow over 300,000 right now as the storm is off of the coast and making its way up the coast, parallel to daytona. We have the Team Coverage continuing as it moves closer and James Fletcher is tracking the movements. One of the ripple effects that we will feel out here is flight delays. People they have canceled between now and saturday 3800 flights, 3800 flights affected by Hurricane Matthew, and it loads it will send ripple effects around the bay area, including at sfo, oakland, san jose, so make sure to call ahead. You could be dealing with the consequences of the hurricane. Right now the satellite radar view is shown you the eye of the hurricane is off of the coast, Cape Canaveral, florida, making its way towards Daytona Beach and one of the outer bands, really lashing Daytona Beach and points to the north of that. We are seeing impressive rainfall rates come anywhere from a half inch to 1. 5 inches and some of the deeper red areas, offshore, 2 inches or greater and the rates are coming the wind is with the rod and we have 7 feet to 11 feet storm surge and that is going to inundate some of the lower line coastal areas. 24 Million People are currently affected by some form of the hurricane watch or warning. Or the Tropical Storm watch or warning for you can see the areas colored in and where they will be dealing with that and everybody is trying to go inland as they are dealing with this storm getting closer and closer to georgia and closer and closer to the carolinas. Lets map out the track for you. The position hasnt about about here, 120 Miles Per Hour, coming right up to the South Carolina coast by saturday morning, early, and up to the North Carolina coast by early sunday morning and at that point, it does go to category 1 but it is going to come out to see to sea and it looks like it is coming for round to matt. By tuesday, north of the bahamas and by wednesday morning, it could be squarely overhead, something that they certainly do not need to deal with the we will be following the story. The family says that she was a passion a scientist, friend, spouse, sister, daughter and colleague and she was in ethiopia for a meeting to kick off a Research Project and she was killed on tuesday, traveling in a car in an area where there had been months of deadly protests.
