Now to the south bay where police are investigating a deadly officer involved shooting in san jose. And were live at the scene with more. Will, you just spoke to a Family Member . Reporter the Family Member told me his name is anthony nunez. He stayed at the home right behind me. Its the home with the Basketball Court right in front. He stayed there with his aunt. Let me show you video of the scene. This went down at about 5 00 yesterday afternoon. The Family Members called the Police Department to come out to do a welfare check. They said he was suicidal that he was possibly depressed. When the officers arrived they saw him with a selfinflicted gun wound possibly to his head. He was bleeding from his head and face. But they said he they dont think he was trying to kill himself that he was just distraught. The uncle told me he was just fired that day from his job. When they came out they saw him in the front and tried to tell him to put down his weapon. The officers say he refuse and had thats when they felt threatened and shot him. We dont know the officers names. But we know it involved two Police Officers who have been placed on administrative leave. We were right in front of the home and we could hear Family Members crying. But a little bit later this morning the parents would like to say their side of the story. Back to you. Thanks, will. Thats being blamed on illegal fireworks. Live at the scene with more on the story. Reporter good morning. You can see that families belongings are all out on the front lawn. You can also see the garage door is boarded up with a red tag saying that this house is not livable at this point. Every year we talk about fireworks and the fact that the Fire Department says illegal fireworks can start a fire. And this is a prime example of what theyre talking about. They believe illegal fireworks started this fire. This is what it looked like around 1 15 last night here in vallejo. You can see smoke pouring out of the garage area. You can see firefighters with the air tanks and flashlights out trying to get inside the home to fight the fire. Were being told there were three people inside of the home when the fire broke out. Those people were not injured and theyre being helped by red cross and what were being told because the house is inhabitable. It took about 45 minutes to get the fire under control. You see the heavy smoke and damage inside the garage area. Once they did the investigation thats when they determined theres there were fireworks left on the side of the house that they say probably caused this fire. They estimate about a hundred thousand dollars worth of damage was done. The good news is as i said nobody was seriously injured in this case. But its obviously another good reminder for anybody out there this time of year, worry about the fireworks. Make sure that theyre out and safe when theyre used. And they believe thats what caused this fire early this morning. Thanks a lot. And even though the 49 of july is over officers in the east bay are still cracking down on illegal fireworks. The concord Police Department has received in the neighborhood of 60 calls on fireworks since last friday. That number is expected to rise throughout the week. What we do is yield calls from dispatch and they let us know when citizens and all where the fireworks are at. And we go to that neighborhood. And we see if we could locate the person whos setting the fireworks off. If we do locate them then we seize the fireworks we issue a citation and during the downtime were driving around seeing if theres anyone selling or distributing fireworks in any area of concord. And its no small thing either you could actually face jail time if youre caught with illegal fireworks. Fireworks are to blame for this fire that broke out sunday night in brentwood. It started about 10 00 and you can see the flames shooting higher than the 50foot trees. It burned up both sides of marsh creek. No homes were burned. But they say that this can easily happen again thats why theyre continuing to keep a good watch this morning. Been hot for the last week and it doesnt take much to start a fire. You have a neighbor shooting, especially these large commercial type fireworks going off you need to dial 911 and let Law Enforcement do that. This was just one of just several fires that broke out over the weekend. Its not clear how many of them were started by fireworks. About 12 of them burning across the state and that includes one just outside the sacramento area which is the video you see behind me. Its the trailhead fire. It started last tuesday and grew quickly. A lot of that terrain was hard to access by firefighters. Very steep and rugged and the fire burned and grew about eight and a half square miles in size. They made major progress yesterday. They started the day at about 20 containment. Ending the day with 50 . Good improvement on that front. Meanwhile firefighters almost reached full containment on the curry fire thats burning in fresno county. Its burned more than four and a half square miles. It broke out last friday. The ocean cooled air making its way over the hills and on into the valleys later on into the evening hours and starting tomorrow. That will come with the fog. The Golden Gate Bridge there was a report of a spin out near the toll plaza doesnt look too bad though. Its a great ride coming from the north bay. You might see a minor delay into the tolls. No major hot spots right now. If you take the ferry keep in mind the 8 00 departure was canceled thats because of Maintenance Work to a shuttle. Keep that in mind and pay close attention to the announcements made when you get over there. There is some slow traffic out there but nothing too bad. Here on highway 4 stop and go. 61 minutes from antioch to concord. When you make it to 242 and south 680 its crowded but no major accidents or hot spots. Its 20 minutes from concord to danville. Thats a great drive time. And heres a look at highway 101 pockets are flowing for the northbound commute up to 880. After that its going to be smooth sailing continuing through downtown san jose. Crews rescued a man after a 10foot sailboat capsized yesterday afternoon. Then the same day the coast guard was notified somebody was on a 30foot hey sailboat clutching his chest and yelling for help. Then they encountered a kayak and two people had to be rescued and taken back to shore. A parolee arrested for having a gun on the beach. Police say he pulled a gun during an argument at a nearby month tell six. It started motel6. He tried to run and hide in a nearby bathroom. But Police Arrested him at the beach. And crews will be doing mosquito fogging in san jose later this week after they found more mosquitoes with west nile virus. In its most severe cases it can be deadly. 229 people died since the virus came to california back in 2003. 53 californians died last year alone. The fogging starts at 7 00 tomorrow night and lasts until 2 00 in the morning friday. Part of the area was already fogged last month.
