Catherine Police in santa rosa arrested a man they say ran away from a stolen car this morning. Police say 39yearold Andrew Chaffer ran from the car around 9 this morning. Officers spent much of the day looking in the steele lane neighborhood between highway 101 and mendocino avenue. Chaffer crawled through a very long culvert to attempt his escape. He drew attention to himself when he came out with no shirt, no shoes and was soaking wet. Officers say a good citizen called police to tell them where he was. Police say the suspect whos now been identified as 24yearold roger perez of orinda died after shooting himself in the head. It happened sunday night around 11 30. Officer say he fired the gun at police and thats when they returned fire.
