This report came in to the newsroom just a little over an hour ago. It is pretty revealing. Grant lodes has gone over it. And he is in the breaking news center with some of the key points. grant the first sentence from the National Transportation safety board says it all. The crash was caused by what is says inadequate highway markings. You may recall the Greyhound Bus wrecked on highway 101 in san jose in january of 2016. It was raining at the time and it was dark. The ntsb says the bus was exiting and because markings were worn or missing. The driver thought he was in the exit lane. It turns out we was not and went up a barrier. Rolling the bus. And it wound up on its side. The ntsb says the barrier should have been visible. Even in the bad weather. But it wasnt. It faults the state for not properly marking the roadway. Also in the report, investigators say the bus had seatbelts but only two of the 21 passengers were wearing them. The two passengers who died in the crash were not wearing seat belts and were thrown from the bus. 13 other people were hurt in the crash. The ntsb says had everyone been wearing seat belts. The number of deaths and injuries would have likely been lower. Also in the report. The n tsb is recommending improving signage and highway markings where this crash happened.
