They have administered doses of free vaccine with the hopes that the infection will not spread further. A dramatic rescue operation on pacifica beach. An elderly couple was swept out to sea. We have more on how the rescue unfolded. Reporter witnesses say the elderly couple was sitting on the beach close to the water when all of a sudden a sneaker way washed onto shore and pulled the woman into the sea. The male companion tried to save her and he was caught also. They were both caught in a rip current. They were both getting more tired by the minute and in the meantime the firefighters were staging a beach rescue while the coast guard said in the sent in a cutter. Beth grossman was there and she saw the whole thing happened. The first rescue guy was amazing and he tried to get into the water with flippers and all of that. He wasnt able to and thats what the guy was up against. They got him on a line and then they pulled him up. Reporter the woman was rescued by an unknown person and both were taken to the hospital. Her condition is not yet known. This rescue is an important reminder of the dangers of the sea. A rogue wave could come at any time and it is best to stay as far away from the ocean as you can. Not as warm compared to yesterday, but still very warm. We will see 60s for the heart of the bay. A few spots like santa rosa and into the wind country wine country, you may see the 70s. Look for a mixed bag of upper 60s to the low 70s across the bay. Another day to get out doors and get that walk in or get the jog. Lower 70s for redwood city and palo alto. San mateo upper 60s. The Justice Department said that it would take legal action against the city after city officials voted to amend an agreement with the department to reform Ferguson Police and municipal courts. A tentative agreement was reached last month after it was found that police were discriminating against black citizens. Amending the agreement is not too much to ask. I think it is reasonable. Really substantively, the spirit of the decree is intact. We are not trying to take away safeguards or anything substantive. Anything that councilman bell mentioned, we have been proactive in trying to implement and we will continue to do that. In a Statement Issued on tuesday night, the statement said it creates an unnecessary delay and marks an unfortunate outcome for the community. To the top story now. A dramatic rescue on pacifica beach where couple was caught in a wave and taken out to see. One man died and the woman is recovering. Kron 4 is there with an update. It came to a Helicopter Rescue . Reporter yes it did. They were on the beach behind me. Look at the waves this morning. It is powerful, but not like weight we have seen like what we have seen over the past couple of weeks. The investigation is ongoing. We dont know if their backs were turned to the ocean, but we do know they were swept out to sea around 2 00 p. M. Yesterday. They were on the beach and the local saw the couple in the water. They immediately rescued the woman and brought her back to the beach. Her husband was out there and they cannot rescue him. They had to call the coast guard. About an hour and 15 minutes after he was swept out to sea, they finally took him out of the water and rushed him to the hospital. Unfortunately, he died at the hospital. Plenty of people were on the beach. It was a beautiful and clear and sunny afternoon. People did see the horrible events that happen before their eyes, including one witness we tracked down. Here is what one witness had to say. They were holding onto each other. The guy went in after her. And, the rip was taking her all the way out. I could see her out there. She was like trying to relax and not fight it. On the other hand, he was trying to fight it. He got close to giving out about three times, but the waves kept taking him back. Reporter it was so fast and so horrifying that initially the two actually fell from the pacifica pier into the water. That was the initial report, but it is not the case. They were on the beach at the time. A lot of times tourists come to this location, but in this case it appears they were a local couple. The man identified as 60year old larrymore from pacifica. Larry more moore from pacifica. It is time for the competition at Half Moon Bay. It is set for this friday and we have not seen it for a couple of years. This is video of the intense waves just a few weeks ago. The organizer, jeff bart says the swells are headed our way and it is going to be big on friday which is where the competition is called. Why the competition is called. It is going to push the surfers to the edge of their game. Reporter the competition is in the tort invitation only. 24 surfers were invited. So if you have to leave Castro Valley or dublin, this will impact your right next because its crawling back through redwood and picks up as soon as you get through the scene. A dramatic rescue on a pacifica beach has a couple caught in a wave and taken out to sea. That man died in the waters. The woman was rescued but recovering this morning. That report was swirling for quite some time and then late last night they decided after talking to the woman that they were on the beach on a beautiful afternoon with a sneaker wave. It came up out of nowhere and set the couple out to sea. The good news is, either the woman swam back to shore herself for a local saw what was going on, helped her back on land and she was treated at the scene and taken to the hospital. Her husband was in a worse situation. In fact, he was in the water for about an hour 15 until the coast guard was called out to lower a rope with a diver down into the water to rescue him. Once he was pulled from the water, he to was rushed to the hospital. Unfortunately, it was just too long in the water. He took into much water and died at the hospital. It was a harrowing ordeal. We were here and we got a chance to talk to witnesses on the beach. Heres what they had to say about the incident. They were holding onto each other. The guy winter and after her and she was floating way out there. I saw her head and she was just trying to reflects relaxant not fight it but he was trying to fight it to get back up and he got close about three times to getting out but the waves kept taking him back in. How terrible is that . He had plenty of chances to possibly save his life but it was just too much. We do know his name this morning. He is 60 years old from pacifica. His name is jerry moore. His wifes name has not been released. Those dangerous waves are the reason you wont be able to watch maverick, the surf competition set for friday. No festival and no spectators. They want be allowed to access pillar point to watch the competition. Here is our video showing the intense waves a few weeks ago. The organizers says a swell is headed our way and that means big waves friday morning. The guys are ready. Theres been a lot of big waves so they have been turning up their skills. It will push these servers to the edge of their game. The competition as you probably know is invitation only. 24 surfers are invited and the have to make their way from around the world. For those of you who have to come from 580, the backup is spilling over. Its calling back from curl canyon now but the incident is out of the way. Here is the backup. If you have to leave dublin, travel on the grade into Castro Valley and san leandro, expect that number to continue to go up. Its about 21 minutes from dublin through the scene of the crash and over 238 and 880 into san leandro but once again out of your way so a little good news. Highway 4, 30 minutes now. Antioch to can forward concorde stilts going up. A lot of stop and go traffic. But about a 26 minute drive from 238 to 237. Some of you may have to go through that crash to get to to 80. San francisco supervisors are already talking about ways to spend tax revenue from the celebrations. Scott wheatridge introduce a resolution yesterday that would take hotel and sales tax generated by the super bowl and put it toward Supportive Housing options to get the homeless off the streets. As you know, the homeless were upset that they could build super bowl city but they cant build more homeless shelters. Other supervisors want to return some of the money to Small Businesses that lost money because of all the street closures. It could be months before the city knows the full economic impact. Mayor lee has said he supports the San Francisco Police Department and chief greg suhr but has asked the Police Department to investigate force policies. A former senator and former president of the San Francisco school board are going to be sentenced after that fbi corruption probe that brought down the chinatown gang leader he has already pleaded guilty to racketeering. He solicited money for his Political Campaign in exchange for support. Keith jackson was also indicted and pleaded guilty as well to racketeering charges. National headlines now. The city of ferguson missouri could be headed toward a legal battle with the government. The Justice Department says it will take legal action against the city after officials voted not to agree to amend policies. A tentative agreement was reached last month after department of justice report found that Ferguson Police for discriminating against blacks but the city wants to amend a part but calls for Police Salary raises.
