After firefighters put out the fire, they entered the structure and found a body. On other person was injured in the fire. Arson investigators were called out to the scene. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. A large fire in San Francisco. Destroyed a building. And created huge smoke plumes which could be seen for miles. This cell phone video was taken just across the street from the luxor cab service garage. It happened in the Bayview District just before noon yesterday. Fleischman was badly burned when police say Richard Thomas set fire to his skirt. Detectives say thomas confessed to setting the fire. Because hes homophobic. Fleichman doe not identify with any gender. Last month a judge decided thomas will be tried as an adult. In sacramento today, the states water experts are joining officials with nasa to try and come up with ways to respond to californias drought crisis. What this family is having to go through coming up. A frightening poliolike illness is affecting children here in california. Including a fouryear old girl from berkeley. Symptoms include weakness and even paralysis. Oscarover the past 18 months doctors in california have as many as 20 cases of a rare polio like illness which is paralyzing the arms or legs of children. Doctors acknowledge there is still a lot they dont know about this illness. Something similar has been seen in asia and australia. But there remains no treatment. They want physicians and parents to be aware of what is happening so the symptoms can be spotted early. And more information on the little girl affected by this illness in berkeley. Four year old sofia jarvis is now paralyzed in her left arm from polio. A year and a half ago, little sofia started wheezing so her pediatrician treated her for asthma. But the treatment did not work and she eventually was admitted to the icu. And even in the hospital, doctors still could not figure out what was on, and at this point it was too late, paralysis has started to set in. But sofias parents didnt give up and took her to see a neurologists at Lucile PackardChildrens Hospital stanford. That was when she was diagnoised with polio like symptoms. Sofias parents refuse to accept the paralysis as a permanent thing. She has been doing physical and Occupational Therapy on a weekly basis. They hope this will help her nerves recover, and use her arm again. A bubbly 4 year old with all the personality in the world is now dealing with a setback. Her left arm is paralyzeda year and a half ago, little sofia started wheezing. Her pediatrician treated her for asthma. On the way home she started vomiting. There had been a stomach bug going around so we thought that was what she was possibly experiencing. Sofia jarvis was eventually admitted to the icu. The difficulty in breathing just wouldnt go away. For days she was treated for asthma. Before leaving the hospital her pediatrician gave her a shot of anti biotics for fear she may have pneumonia. Doctors couldnt pin point her symptoms they had no idea what they were looking for. By then paralysis had already started kicking in. For days she couldnt use her left arm. Didnt realize she had a spinal cord inflammation and that her arm would be permanently paralyzed. After a number of different treatments that didnt work, sofias parents sought out neurologists at Lucile PackardChildrens Hospital stanford. They identified the rare disease that shares some of the same characteristics as polio. What it was that specifically happened i dont think were ever gonna know.
