Sentencing is set for next month. Two men are missing tonight after their canoe went missing on donner lake. It happened before 5 00 the this evening. They immediately launched a rescue effort with boats, drivers and a helicopter to the search area, but the search has since been suspended due to high winds and darkness. They dont know if the who men were wearing life vests or not. The identities of the missing men have not been released but they are in their 30s and vacationing in the area. Domestic violence awareness is on the rise after multiple highprofile cases over the last couple of years. But as the issue gains attention, the demand for and the resources needed are not always there. Reporter 12,197. The number of people nationwide who didnt receive the help they requested in a Domestic Violence situation. In just a 24 hour period. Is there an increase of the number of people coming forward. Reporter each year, they conduct a census over the course of 24 hours. Hundreds of programs track the Services Provided to victims as well as those not provided due to a lack of resources. 15 nevada organizations participated. There were some promising, yet concerning results. What we saw was 108 individuals who were turned away. Who did not receive services that they needed that is actually a really scary number. Housing. Lisa lynn chapman with the Nevada Network against Domestic Violence says the lack of resources can be attributed to either staffing cuts or reductions in government funding. Well new information tonight on a recent decision impacting solar rooftop customers. We are now learning that the decision by nevadas public utilitys commission will impact some institutions like the city of reno and the Washoe CountySchool District. For you, that mean it is anticipated Energy Savings are not what was initially thought. It also means there is new math and calculating what it will take for invest. S in the city. Reno installed 14 Solar Systems. Seven of those are affected by the new net metering decision. We were expecting a savings of about 1. 6 million to 3 million over the life of the system. Looks like this may cut our savings by 80 to 100,000. In that ballpark. The School District has 39 Solar Systems installed. Jason geddes says up to six of by the new rates but he says he is much more concerned about an upcoming general rate case. There is no way to know what direction they will take. And a team of scientists has successfully used drone to cloud seed in an effort to boost precipitation during a storm. It was done by a team of dri scientists and engineers from drone america. The happy ending is because of the tahoe reno rescue society that brought in the maltese puppies from the mill. Many of them are ready to be adopted. Put these 17 fur balls together and it is like you are in puppy heaven. But these maltese dogs went through hell before being saved. Animal services cracked down on rescue society took them in, in december. They were so shot down, they were little fluffy things that didnt do anything. Reporter at the time, their teeth rotting, hair mangled. Nails overgrown. They were covered in urine and feces. Some of them were brutally debarked. There was no thought put into their socialization or medical care. It was just how can i make the most money . Reporter volunteers provide foster homes for the dogs. They get to see what it is like to live in someones home. Slowly introduce them to the home life. Reporter some of if puppies are ready to find new families. Herman is the one who is debarked but the others are ready for adoption. They will not be your normal everyday adoptions. In their own homes.
