No, because of your question, not made bys was so churchgoers can feel safe this easter weekend. We are relieved that he has been caught and also relieved that they are taking the threat even though he was caught. The fbi confirmed he does have an open investigation until they find out exactly who made that threat. Coveragemore live coming up. Whether youre a celebrating passover or easter, big lands today. Big plans today. Afghanistan. What do you think, weapons of mass destruction on our side. Trumps targets the massive weapon used in notstan is intended based underground. In syria, the administration will be hoping that it will deter president assad from further attacks. With north korea. Mr. Trump is hoping to deter further test. It is very possible that if these three scenarios come together, it will overwhelm the capabilities and a strategic capabilities, and the resource capabilities of the u. S. Military. Trump and his entourage feel that they are on a roll. The forcesallenging that Previous Administration was unable to resolve. In the absence of swift revolutions, mr. Trump could turn his back on foreign adventures and focus on domestic issues. Tim we will be talking more about north korea in a moment to but lets focus on the middle first, east. For that im joined by a former state Department Official now with the u. S. Institute of peace, who has just returned back today from afghanistan. President trump said his Top National Priority is dealing with Islamic State. Is he going the right way about it . Apparently he has had some success in afghanistan on reducing the numbers of Islamic State fighters, and we have seen today, yesterday, that this big bomb focus on that without any civilian casualties that we know of so far. So that is a strong step. , tim he gave his general 30 days to come up with a strategy to defeat Islamic State. What have we learned so far . Is it what obama did but with more cash . General mcmaster, as your report indicated, is en route out there right now. He is well respected, he has spent a lot of time in afghanistan, knows it well, knows the challenges. He is partway through a review to come up with a new strategy. We will see i think shortly what kind of strategy he comes up with. Tim staying with afghanistan, does that mean more troops . He asked for a few thousand more. General nicholson has asked for several thousand more. Not a surge, as you say, but additional troops that would allow him to put americans down a layer or two in the afghan army, Afghan National forces. This would help them, the Afghan National forces, do what they need to do. But i think general mcmaster is going to evaluate that request. I dont think the decision has made yet. Tim moving to the middle east, it is a truism that you cannot defeat Islamic State just militarily. I think that is very important. That is the important question in afghanistan as well as syria. The afghanistan situation is such that there is a welldeveloped, or developing, military strategy for the defeat of isis and trying to get control of the taliban. There needs to be this is what our sense was there needs to be a corresponding political strategy. Theyve got connections coming theyve got elections coming up, negotiations possibly with the taliban. They need to be integrated with a stronger military. Tim so much ground has been taken by the coalition in afghanistan and not the taliban fighting Islamic State. The taliban are supporting Islamic State to some extent. We are getting back to where we were earlier. The taliban was a providing refuge it for terrorists organizations including the Islamic State and afghanistan. So, we are focused on the Islamic State, but we are focusing on how we can either coopt or defeat the taliban. Tim we will leave it there. Lets move to another longstanding problem, north korea, which is about a merciless response to any u. S. Provocation, following comments from President Trump in which he said that the Nuclear Weapons program will be dealt with. Speculation is growing that pyongyang could carry out a nuclear test, the countrys sixth, as it marks the day of the sun National Holiday this weekend. John sudworth is with a group of visiting foreign journalists and he sent this report. John in north korea, the specter of war looms large over daily life. These girls are singing about being soldiers. While not far away, real ones crowd into a shrine for the countrys founding president , general kim ilsung. These are seems akin to a religious pilgrimage. But of course, in honor of a stillruling family dynasty, who have at their disposal all of the myths that would rival any of the worlds great religions. And as the country prepares to display its devotion at the anniversary of kim ilsungs birth this weekend, there is an awareness of the rising tension with america. We should have Nuclear Weapons. If we do not have Nuclear Weapons, the Nuclear Weapon of another country will fall on our soil. It doesnt matter whether the americans make the situation on the peninsula tense, we have a great leader kim jongun. John this week the current ruler, kim jongun, held this meeting where his late grandfather was honored. He is also thought to be planning a massive military parade as a powerful tribute, and in message of defiance. This is a country where art and armaments have blended in singular purpose, to demonstrate to the watching world that its Nuclear Ambitions will not be stopped. John sudworth, bbc news, pyongyang. Tim for more on the tensions brewing on the korean peninsula, i spoke a short time ago to john tierney, who served on the House Intelligence Committee during his years in congress and is the executive director at the center for arms control and nonproliferation. Are we looking at a longstanding problem here rapidly becoming a crisis . Yes. It is obviously a longstanding problem, and it has been exacerbated by the tensions that the two parties seem to want to keep provoking each other. In our situation, the united states, there is no immediacy to send over the strikeforce at that particular time. And that just raised the ante. Tim so that is a provocative gesture. And who knows who can read kim jongun . It is a hugely important National Holiday tomorrow, where traditionally they said set something off. This is a guy whose instability unnerves everybody. Yes, he wants to preserve himself. What it comes down to is at what point does he feel he is thing threatened . At what point does he think that whatever is being done, sending a strikeforce in or exercises, will turn to being an attack . It may not seem reasonable to us, but in his mind he is paranoid and it is well deserved. Tim one news agency here suggest that if there is any nuclear test tomorrow, trump will react. I heard that he would, you would help that he wouldnt. Totally inappropriate. There is a clear path to get some resolve on this. Again, if he was going to do some thinking mark the holiday, that should have been anticipated. But all along we should have been looking for another means to defuse the situation and move it in the right direction. Tim trump has a circle of grownups around him the problem is too narrow a circle. He has mattis and mcmaster but he needs secretaries and undersecretaries and other people who know the history of area and the consequences. Tim that cannot be done quickly. He has to get them approved by the senate for one thing. He can call people around now who have expertise. It doesnt appear that he is doing that. Tim and he talks about a great relationship with xi jinping one would hope. If chinas more responsive that is a huge piece of this. Because china, to the point that they can get the attention of north korea and convince them there are consequences of trade and other aspects without threatening them to think that a superpower is up against them, delicate balance. Tim how much leverage have they got . Again one report from the , Chinese Foreign minister no response yet. They are serious about helping on the sanctions and taking those actions, that will be felt in north korea and there will be some reaction to it from north korea. You hope it is a reaction of engagement as opposed to attacking or responding in defense. Tim what do you think mattis and others are saying at the moment the call vincent is best with carl vincent steaming toward you hope they are saying they dont have to go to a military bases, that you have made your point and we have the capability and we have china more responsive. Lets ratchet it up, get a really severe they started to talk yesterday, the day before. Much more enhanced set of sanctions that china would help to enforce. Im afraid, however, that they might do what they did in syria, give that as an option and then glass over what action they take if they take reaction. It becomes an idea of how do you respond very hard hit the tip kime that doesnt in the wrong direction. Tim thanks very much for joining. You are watching bbc world news america. And other stories, police in israel say a palestinian man fatally stabbed a woman on a tram in jerusalem. Its up place where christians were gathering to celebrate good friday. The enemy is not just hiding in the city. We joined and Intelligence Units hunting down i. S. Infiltrators and collaborators who have already escaped. Now seeking shelter and avoiding capture in camps living alongside the innocence of this war who fled the fighting. How often do you do this . Always. Every day. Every night. Finding isis in these camps . In the camps are in his house, in mosul, everywhere. Jonathan the extremists may be losing their grip on most all, but even if they are defeated, i. S. Will not go away. Mosul. N beale, bbc, and hans, lie empty and in ruins, but in some places, the first attempts of rebuilding are now underway. Fromorrespondent reports hams.
