Nonstop flights are available from most major airports. More information for your vacation planning is available at aruba. Com. And now, bbc world news america. Laura this is bbc world news america. Reporting from washington, i am a lower trevelyan. Betweennd debate Hillary Clinton and donald trump. Personal and dirty very fast. Mr. Trump this was locker room talk. Im not proud of it. If you look at bill clinton, far worse. Mine are words and his was action. Ms. Clinton it is awfully good that someone with the temperament of donald trump is not in charge of the law in our country. Mr. Trump because you to be in jail. Laura the president ial election could potentially be influenced by russian cyberattacks. America. Concerns stretch far beyond america and put down your cell phone and appreciate a real map. Laura welcome to our viewers on Public Television in america and also around the globe. We were expecting a raucous night, but the second president ial debate was both feisty and intense. Even before it started, donald was bringing up accusations of Sexual Assault against bill clinton and when asked about the tape that showed mr. Trump using lewd language towards women come he said it was just locker room talk. The fallout continues. Speaker of the house paul ryan says he will not defend donald trump, nor campaign with him. Jon sopel starts our coverage. Jon they walked out smiling, but as they drew closer, the awkwardness and tension were evident. No handshakes, just a wary stare. And very quickly it was on to the now infamous comments from trump a decade ago about molesting women. Mr. Trump this was locker room talk. Im not proud of it. I apologize to my family. I apologize to the american people. I will tell you heavy over done this . Mr. Trump no come i have not. he has said the video doesnt represent who he is, but i think it is clear to anyone who heard it that it represents exactly who he is. But it is not only women and it is not only this video that raises questions about his fitness to be our president. Because he has also targeted immigrants, africanamericans, latinos, people with disabilities, pows, muslims, and so many others. Jon and this is where it got nasty and dirty. Donald trump chose attacked is the best form of the defense. He brought women with him who had claimed to be previously assaulted by bill clinton. Mr. Trump didnt hold back to mr. Trump if you look at bill clinton, far worse. Mine are words, his was actions. There has never been anybody in the history of politics in this nation so abusive to women. Hillary clinton attack to those same women and attacked them viciously. Ms. Clinton when i hear Something Like that, im reminded of what my friend michelle advised us all. When they go low, you go high. [applause] jon throughout the debate, donald trump moved nervously around the stage comes sometimes her, oftens stalking just looking in the background as an intimidating presence. His most effective attack was over her use of a private email server. And then this extraordinary statement. Mr. Trump if i win, im going to instruct my attorney general to get a special prosecutor to look into your situation. Ms. Clinton it is just awfully good that someone with the temperament of donald trump is not in charge of the law in our country. Mr. Trump because you would be in jail. Jon and then the most surreal end to this poisonous debate. Would either of you name one positive thing you respect in one another . [laughter] [applause] look, i respect his children. Ablehildren are incredibly and devoted, and i think that says a lot about donald. Mr. Trump i will say this about hillary she doesnt quit, she doesnt give up. I respect that. I tell it like it is. Jon this was a brutal and savage 90 minutes. Heald trump had to prove could move beyond the sex scandal tape that has rocked to the Republican Party. He probably achieved that. He is down but he is not yet out. There was a tepid handshake at the end, but no love lost between the two of them, and no easing of the animosity, either, between mr. Trump and the deeply unhappy Republican Party leadership. Jon sopel, bbc news, st. Louis, missouri. Laura so with just four weeks to go until election day, where does last nights debate leave the candidates . Roughly 66 Million People watched, but as voters in those key battleground states matter the most, arizona is one of them. Donald trump hopes to keep it in republican hands. Jane cook has gone to speak to voters there. In more than 60 years from arizona has voted for a democratic president only once, when bill clinton won in 1996. If his wife can repeat the feat, it will be thanks to Donald Trumps scorchedearth approach to politics. But the tough talk went down well here. Republican voters loved seeing their candidate lay into Hillary Clinton. Oh reporter he may have posted about Sexual Assault, but they say she is worse. She has gone after bill clintons victims. She cannot stand on a prowoman leg when she has been antiwoman. If you are talking about what his words are about a woman vs. What Hillary Clinton and her husband have done to women, that is what is important. I believe that after tonights performance in particular, she is probably he has probably gained support and i still have complete confidence in him. Reporter but there is a big problem. This dry and dusty state is increasingly diverse and increasingly democratic. Tucson now feels like a blue island in a red sea. And the democrats at this classic car rally are hopeful. Im not a fortuneteller come i wish i was, but i really have a good feeling about it. We have a lot more people moving into the state. Reporter what do you think of donald trump . , for real . I am ashamed he is the republican nominee, and i really hope he steps down. I wont vote for him. Reporter why not . Why not . He is kind of against hispanic people here in the united states. Reporter this family has been grilling here for more than two decades. In that time, the spanishspeaking correlation has shot up. Latino turnout is usually low, but if it rises, mr. Trump could be only burned. Bradley byrne. Bradley byrne. Badly burned. Not just latinos. Women, muslims. Reporter it doesnt help that neither of the states republican senators are backing him. Donald trumps core supporters seem pretty pleased with his performance but in the Republican Party in arizona and the united states, they remain bitterly divided, concerned about the messenger and the message. With less than a month to go, that can only be good news for Hillary Clinton. James cook, bbc news, tucson. Laura for more on the reaction to last nights debate, i spoke a brief time ago with democratic strategist here in washington, and ron christie from new york. Peter and ron, thanks for joining me. Do goingump had all to into the debate last night and his campaign was in freefall , but alreadyd tape we are learning that has Speaker Paul Ryan has said he will not campaign for trump. He has failed, has any . Hasnt he . He did a lot of what he needed to do in the sense that people thought donald trump didnt look president ial and didnt have a sense of the policy issues in the first debate. What he had to do was come out and look a bit more prepared. Looking at paul ryan, the speaker of the hazard presented its amended today is significant. What he said to the House Republican caucus is you guys Republican Caucus is you guys need to run for reelection and do whatever you need to do, do whatever you need to say. The narrative that the Trump Campaign thought that they won the debate, instead they find themselves back on defense. Laura what Hillary Clinton was a little bit on the defense of last night, wasnt she . She was confident and relaxed in the first debate but not so much last night. Part of it mightve been the donald trump had accusers of bill clinton in the first row. She did well with that, didnt respond to the attack from trump. But that has got to unnerve anybody, i think, even a pro like her. Inhink she did very well terms of the policy issues, drawing distinctions. I think still the problem with trump is he didnt change the basic narrative about him. He still looked like a panther pacing behind her laura does it feel like he got to her, though . I think the email stuff he went to his base with that. End of the day, the polls that have come out, the cnn poll showed 57 of the folks think she one it, as opposed to the 62 who said she won the first debate. That was very solid. Net positive for her was 10 points, net negative on him was 30 points. Hes got trouble. Laura turning to you, ron, did donald trump do anything to reach beyond his face to those undecided voters, those mythical women in the suburbs of philadelphia, who must be really upset about the lewd tape . Ron again, you got it be careful what you say in public life, and he has been on the world scene for many years now. I cant believe he said what he said. I cannot believe that recording came out as the october surprise. The question you asked is a very good one. Did he move anybody from the undecided column to his camp last night . I think the answer is no. The people his base, worried about the terrible week yes at said, but did you move anybody knew into his column . I dont think so. Laura there is one thing that has to be worrying for Hillary Clinton got that some of the instant polling of undecided voters during the debate showing for trumps attacks on her the emails and the idea of the special prosecutor, people like that who were undecided. Peter i think he does score on some of that. The Biggest Issue really for both of them is honesty and integrity. Any time you hit on that, it spikes in some of those instant polls. But you know, she needs to do more in the next month to try to mitigate that, no question about it. But i do think this notion of putting in jail somebody when i am president you are going to go to jail that is what they do in banana republics. Laura now his Campaign Manager has said that is just a quip. Is donald trump hoping out that the only route to the white house now for him is this historically high turnout by white, noncollegeeducated voters . Ron that seems to be the only path. If he is going to win, they have to come out in droves to vote for him. He has a lot of states that were not competitive before that are now competitive, not just in the american south, but across the united states. What can he do, not only in the debate upcoming, but next month, to get people to pull the lever for him . Peter and i have been in this business for a long time. 30 days is a long time in american politics and i expect there will be another october surprise that could have the race tighten even further. Laura after that is right. One of the polls has Hillary Clinton up 11 but we know how volatile this race has been. You must be worried. Peter well, all of us crazy pundits have been worried for a year and a half. Certainly we are surprised by Donald Trumps rise. This is a not a Traditional Campaign and she could blow him away, or something could happen and this thing would be tightened. If i am Hillary Clintons Campaign Manager, and saying, folks, we are playing that this is going to be close, we got to go everywhere, i want to make sure we dont give michigan away and we got to go to iowa, got to go to florida, some of the nontraditional state. You have got to play it tough. Laura indeed. Thank you so much for joining us. Ron pleasure. Laura beyond of domestic politics, intelligence agencies here in the u. S. Have accused russia of trying to influence the outcome of the upcoming president ial election through cyberattacks. Concern over russias increasingly aggressive use of cyberspace has been growing in europe, too, especially after a french tv channel was taken off the air last year. Our security correspondent reports. Reporter this weekend the u. S. Made a next ordinary claim, that Russian Hackers were trying to influence the race for the white house. American spies say only senior russian officials could have authorized the hacking of computers at the Democratic Party headquarters down the road in washington. An embarrassing leak of emails and resignation of the party chairwoman. Obama voted early using electronic voting machines. And there is evidence that hackers, perhaps russian, have tried to get inside these texas systems. Types of systems. The only reason you would want to do that is to sow doubt about the outcome of the election, because if you are in a district where you have to rely on the voting machines, and you know voting machines, the database, has been penetrated, can you really trust the results . Reporter it is not just america that has been worried. Here in britain, during the general Election Campaign last year, there were fears that broadcasters, including the bbc, could be targeted by Russian Hackers. That fear was because of French Tv Network last april was taken off air in a sophisticated cyber attack. Of theector general station showed me around the paris control room, which runs 12 global channels. Last year, all the screens went dark as a computer virus started destroying the systems. And all of a sudden every thing went dark. And then the people in charge said that almost all we have we are not down but we are threatening messages on facebook, on our twitter accounts, on our website. Reporter the message is claimed to be from socalled islamic state. Intelligence officials now believe it was russia testing it cyber weapons. Russia appears willing to take more risks using attacker its hackers. Andquestion for washington others is how to respond. Laura russia growing increasingly bold in cyberspace, it seems. In other news from around the world, please in germany say the rest of us here in man suspected of planning a terrorist attack was the chief of his fellow countrymen. Syrians held the suspect while a third went to the Police Station to tell authorities of his whereabouts. Yet been on the run for two days after explosives were found in his apartment could Taliban Forces in afghanistan have launched a major result on a strategic launched an assault on the strategically important city. The militants were a few kilometers from the government compound. A bbc correspondent says if the city falls it would be a significant victory for the taliban. Laura now, the smartphone giant samsung is in the headlines again, but not for the right reasons. It was forced to issue a recall of its galaxy note 7 phone last month after complaints of 40 batteries catching fire. Now reports that it has had to stop production of the phone after claims that replacements were also starting to emit smoke. Our Technology Correspondent reports. Reporter american teenager abby thought her Samsung Galaxy note 7 was safe. After all, it was a replacement phone after the first one was recalled. Then it caught fire in her hands. Dont use your phone . If it explodes, explodes, whatever. Then it did. Reporter it was a month ago that samsung first recalled the note 7 after reports that the battery kept exploding. Now with three u. S. Firms Holding Sales and u. K. Retailers reviewing options, the future looks uncertain. Laura speaking of smartphones, there are go to they are our go to for navigation these days, but one man says that relying so on digital maps may have a downside. He urges people to think about maps as art rather than science so they can relate better to their surroundings. My name estate, and im a geographic illustrator. To me, mapmaking is an art rather than a science. Ien i am making a map, control every detail on the map. When you control these details and the interplay between these 100,000 or so components of the map, the information on it becomes more accessible to the eye. P like this, you get a sense of what it is like to be there. If you go further down the path of using strictly small images to help us navigate and understand the world, our knowledge will be so fragmented that it will have no contacts. Ps orposed to handheld ma digital maps, this piece is everything together. If the world is going to be as geographically literate as possible, you will be through the creation of these maps that inspire us to want to know more about the world. Is, we dont have the exquisite geographic illustrations of the world that allow us to understand its physical characteristics. Unfortunately, the way geography is taught in primary and secondary education bores even me, and im a consonant geographer consummate geographer. Eye for made with this artistry and craft. They tell bigger and Better Stories and they are interesting and engaging. It is so much more to appreciate and get your mind around. It places cities and known ranges they become more important to us. This is a great privilege could i could live to be 1000 years old and not to all the maps i want to make.
