France launches a Major Military deployment to try to stop another terrorist attack. By tuesday, 10,000 troops will guard areas at risk. Survivors return to class with a mix of grief and determination. Welcome to our viewers on Public Television in america and around the globe. Hackers claiming to be acting on behalf of Islamic State have broken into the twitter and youtube accounts of u. S. Central command. Theyve released a statement saying operational military networks were not compromised. Others say it is very disturbing. For a brief time this morning when you went on to central commands youtube site, this is what you found. A propaganda video made by Islamic State, showing they had hacked the account of the u. S. Military. Seemingly more sinister was what was posted on centcoms twitter page. This appears to be confident of former members. The hackers had gotten into the systems service. The white house was playing that down. This is something we are looking into. This is something we take seriously. A note of caution to folks covering this story. There is a significant difference between what is a large data breach and the hacking of a twitter account. With less than Perfect Timing before the hackers coming to light, barack obama was speaking about the importance of cyber security. I am laying out new proposals of how we can keep secrets in the Information Age while protecting the values we cherish. This is the Centcom Youtube account. Munication is vital to the communication is vital to the organization. The page is still them. Was it an embarrassing incident or something more serious . 10,000 more troops will be on the streets of france by tuesday night in a bid to stop another terror attack. The forces will be joining 5000 police which are sent to protect jewish synagogues and mosques. Charlie hebdo will feature more cartoons of the prophet mohammed. France, a country changed by three days of terrorism. 10,000 troops deployed on the streets. This morning we had 900 soldiers deployed around schools in the city of paris. Many of the soldiers were guarding 700 jewish schools. Children arrive for the school day with troops at the gates. The government said it was employing the military as it had never done before. We need the army because we have in front of us terrorists. It is not a joke. Information emerged about the suspect hayat boumeddiene. The widow of Amedy Coulibaly one of the three gunmen. She was shown arriving istanbul airport, having flown via madrid. Her phone signal suggests she has crossed into syrian territory in an area controlled by the Islamic State. Turkey said they received no requests to detain her. There was no notice from france stating she is dangerous and should be banned from entering the country. Therefore there isnt a specific entry ban on this person. In paris, the israeli Prime MinisterBenjamin Netanyahu visited the supermarket were for hostages were killed. His invitation for french jews to migrate to israel has caused some tension in french, where government officials have pledged to defend the jewish community. At the office of the paper liberacion, they are preparing to print charlie hebdo. There are mixed emotions said the director of the paper. There is tension because of a deadline to publish and there is distressed because they are overwhelmed by what they experienced. There will be cartoons of those who were killed, but according to the magazines lawyer, there will also be drawings depicting the prophet mohammed. The magazine has said on wednesday it will have a print run of over one million. One newspaper stand said instead of ordering two copies, which they do normally. They are going to order 1000. With the appearance of new cartoons of the prophet mohammed will cause concern among some people. Tonight, the bodies of the four jewish victims were taken to israel for burial tomorrow on a day when the french government will discuss new security measures. Gavin hewitt, bbc news, paris. After the incredible turnout at the rallies yesterday across france, the country will do with what it means to ensure security for people. For more on that as well as todays hacking i spoke with daniel benjamin. He served at the quarter nadir of counterterrorism at the u. S. State department. The story about france is that they had good internal security and intelligence when it comes to terrorist threats. What went wrong this time . I think the law of averages catches up with you after a wild. There are a lot of threats. There are a fair number of people who have been radicalized. The extremists who are supportive of what is going on in iraq and syria are excited by that and want to show they are part of the fight. You have antiimmigration sentiment in an economic downturn feeding off of each other. At some point, there was bound to be an attack and i think that was it. We see security being stepped up around what they call sensitive sites in france. Do you think the threat is still out there . I think the threat will be with us for some time. I dont think we are going to see a campaign or a wave of attacks, but there is always the danger of copycat attacks and the fundamental facts remain the same. There is a war going on in iraq. There was a lot of antiimmigrant sentiment out there, some of it strengthened by the attack last week. It remains a tough economic situation. We dont know how many there may or may not be, do you think they might look at what happened in paris and they would think that it is time for them to activate . That is always possible. The moment after the attack is the most dangerous because someone else might want to get in. Lets talk about what happened to centcom. Doesnt look to you like an embarrassing intrusion on the twitter feed or a serious hacking of Sensitive Data . It really does not look like a serious Security Threat of any kind or that anyone got inside the department of defenses computers. Twitter feeds, youtube channels, those are held outside of the institutions and are not especially difficult to hack. We have seen hacking cases with other institutions. I dont think there is any reason for anyone to worry about security, but it is probably embarrassing. Can you tell us the tone of what was being put on the twitter feeds and up on the youtube sites, whether this is an organized assault or someone in their basement acting alone . I dont think you can tell by that. The twitter feeds mostly have a goofy tone to them, if anything. It is showing off that they can do this sort of thing. There is not any real threat of information being relayed or larger meaning to the attack in paris being communicated or anything like that. Thanks very much for coming in. Another quick addition on that. The fbi is investigating that twitter and youtube hacking. Centcom saying there was no operational or classified information released every a quick look at other news. Bo boko haram has increased attacks in nigeria over the past week including one where a 10yearold girl was strapped with explosives and detonated. The bbcs will ross reports for us. It has been a week of horrific violence. The aftermath of a weekend bomb attack. 19 people were killed. Nigerians were shocked when officials said the suicide bomber was a 10yearold girl. There were two more attacks in the same region yesterday. The remains of suicide belts were found on the bodies of two young women who attacked. The deadliest of the byrons has been around the town of of the violence has been around the town of baga. Boko haram jihadists captured a base and went on a killing spree. Those who could flee to safer parts of northeast nigeria leaving behind horrific scenes. No one knows how many died in baga. It is too dangerous to count let alone bury the dead. Amnesty International Say it could be the groups worstever attack. Im speaking with several eyewitnesses that said boko haram went house to house. We believe this is the latest in a series of attacks where boko haram is attempting to carve out territory in northeastern nigeria. The list of atrocities is long in jerusalem. Long and gruesome. The 219 schoolgirls kidnapped are still missing. At gunpoint, they were forced onto trucks and driven away. The violence in the northeast of nigeria is relentless. There are calls for more countries around the world to do more to help in the fight against boko haram. Britain and america are training some troops here, but there is no desire whatsoever to become more deeply involved in this conflict. Elections are due next month but the jihadis to tax have not really become a National Issue jihadist attacks have not really become a National Issue. President goodluck jonathan, who is seeking another term, has not commented on the recent bloodshed. For more on boko harams latest attack, i spoke with retired general carter hamm. Is the former head of the u. S. Militarys Africa Command and i asked him what he thought was going on in nigeria. The specific details might not be known for some time. It is evident that boko haram has embarked upon a campaign of increased violence to more widely across the region than they have been engaged in for many months. Some of it seems particularly brutal. There were reports of a 10yearold girl being strapped with explosives and sent off into an marketplace. It is unthinkable. It marks an escalation in the scale, the frequency, and savagery of attacks. They use young girls which appears to be the case. It indicates boko haram has taken this level of violence to a new level. We are kind of talking with one hand tied behind our backs. We dont really know what is going on there. Whys it so difficult for the government to report on going on and difficult for journalists to get in and have a firsthand eyewitness account . I think the attack last week on the Multinational Task force based, a base manned by military forces from nigeria niger, and chad, that base was overrun. They were outgunned by boko haram. That is a change that dynamic changed dynamic in the northeast of the country. That makes it more difficult for the Nigerian Government to get access and certainly for reporters deal to report. What is going on . Why now . Part of it, i think, is related to the Upcoming Elections. Boko harams leader has decried the elections as against their beliefs. The elections, they are largely against. The disenfranchisement of the largelymuslim north and the Upcoming Elections doesnt resonate in the mostlychristian south. I think those dynamics are at play as well. Give us some sense of the size and power of all boko haram and why it is being so difficult for the Nigerian Military to take them on. They are certainly wellarmed and welltrained. I think part of this has been Association Boko Haram has had with other terrorist organizations, al qaeda, perhaps others. The leader has praised al qaeda. They appear to be wellfunded. They appear to be very heavily armed, and in some cases over matching the Nigerian Security forces. That has enabled them to essentially assert control over geographic territory to an extent which we have not seen before. Do you see any chance that they will be tackled by the nigerians before or after the elections . Not by nigeria alone. I think with bo boko haram reach i think boko harams reach has extended. It will require International Forces to address this very real concern. A story that has been underreported over the last few days but clearly very serious in northern nigeria. Youre watching bbc world news america. Still to come, one of the black boxes for the air asia flight crashed into the java sea has been recovered. Investigators hope it could unravel the mystery of exactly what happened. The bbc has learned that the socalled Islamic State movement is trying to recruit fighters in afghanistan. A former taliban commander is said to have joined the movement. Afghan forces are on high alert in their headquarters. There have already been several Taliban Attack since revision American Forces left the base last month. Now the afghan troops may be training to fight a new enemy. A former taliban commander has changed sides. The his merchants the emergence of the socalled Islamic State is a disturbing sign of how much there was yet to do when they left. Tribal elders were called in for an Afghan Military parade, a show of strength. They told of gun battles between the taliban and the new groups leaving many dead. One said that the new group were flying Islamic State black flags and they took down taliban flags. Separately, a video has emerged online of Pakistani Taliban fighters across the border pledging allegiance to the Islamic State. There is a link. Some are from afghanistan. The video displays the crude is to mince favored by the movement. This is a large conventional army trained by western forces including britain and america. Such an army crippled the crumbled in iraq, and there is the first concrete evidence that Islamic State fighters have set up here. The coffin of an afghan soldier fallen in the fight was loaded onto the plane that brought us back to kabul and the fight has just become far bigger. There has been an important breakthrough in the investigation into the air asia crash of two weeks ago. Divers have recovered the flight data recorder from the plane that went down in the java sea a couple of weeks ago. They still need to pull out the cockpit recorder, but teams think they know where that is. More than 160 people were killed when the plane crashed en route to singapore from indonesia. Richard wescott now reports. After a fingertip search in murky waters, the biggest clue yet as to why the air asia plane crashed. One of the two black boxes painted orange so they are easier to find, is safely ashore. It seems that the other has been located but not yet recovered. Housed inside the large cylinders, this is what the air asia investigators will be looking for the Circuit Boards. One of them records everything the aircraft is doing technically. The other records all of the sounds on the flight deck. Not just what the crew set which of. Our switches being flicked, our alarms going off . It is only when you put it all together do you get the full picture. British experts have been helping the indonesian investigation and the bbc has been given rare access to the room in the u. K. Where they analyze blackbox data magnetically sealed to stop eavesdropping. It is quite possible they will try to replay the cockpit recorder before the flight data. The flight data takes days to analyze, but the cockpit voice recorder may provide instantaneous answers to some of the questions investigators may be asking. The air asia team is putting this recorder into freshwater to slow down corrosion. It is a key find but families must be patient. If the recorders are went inside, which is quite possible it could be as many as five days. The recorders themselves and Circuit Boards need to be dried out. That can take between two and three days and thereafter, several days to analyze audio and flight data. As divers try to free the second blackbox this crash has led to calls for some blackbox data to be sent live to engineers on the ground. It is expensive but could spare families the agonizing waits for answers. Still waiting for that other blackbox. It does seem they are getting closer. A month ago, taliban gunmen opened fire on a school full of children in pakistan, killing more than 150 people. Most of them were students. The school reopened today with a ceremony to remember the children and teachers who died. We talked to parents and the pupils about that return to class. They are getting ready to go to school.
