A passerby saw smoke coming from the house in the 14 hundred block of south rustin street just after 8 this morning and called 9 1 1. The fire broke out in the kitchen had spread to the attic. Forcing crews to cut a hole in the roof to attack it. No one was home at the time. Firefighters rescued the familys cat and dog. But the dog was unable to be resuscitated. As our Jetske Wauran tells us, the march started at the war eagle monument this morning, followed by four other stops in sioux city. 3 dozens of families, friends, supporters and advocates are here to memorialize the lost children in native american tribes. It began with a pipe ceremony. Men, women, and children, native and non native americans rallying in unity to honor the children that were abused or neglected under foster care. A march so close to sioux city resident, delphine oconnor, whose grand daughter Maria Helena Flores was severely abused, left with head injuries under foster care. The foster parents said she fell off a swing, but i have no way to know that this is true or not. Oconnor hasnt seen her granddaughter in years but the search for her continues. And i would now like to ask dhs what happened to my granddaughter, where is she . Audry eby is also fighting the same battle. Because we need to be heard. Our stories need to be told. People need to hear us and its part of the healing process. She hopes the march will raise awareness and ultimately reunite displaced native American Children with their home tribe and family. Allsman was about to go to minneapolis for a Lung Transplant evaluation when he received word that nebraska medicine was launching a Lung Transplant program. Being able to continue being here with those same people, yah its hugely beneficial. The news is not only major for allsman. But for other nebraskans needing a Lung Transplant. Those people now have the opportunity to be evaluated here and potentially be transplanted close to home where their family is available to support them. Being close to family and kinda potentially still having a normal routine is very important to help you emotionally and physically with the aspect of transplant.
