For 25 years. Its that one is responsible for ones thoughts and feels. If anything happens to us or we engage in any type of activity, we are responsible for the outcome of what happens. And this this is something that the asian people say that we are our own enemy. Okay. We are our own enemy. And sometimes its much easier to finger point and blame somebody. For example, we are driving and something happens and then we are going to blame the people that designed the iphone. Thats a good point. The attitudinal connection in oakland, we use creativity and we work to empower individuals to be selfaware, inspired through the arts. So we use drumming, Fashion Design, as well as visual arts as a medium for healing, bringing healing to the community. So its for individuals and groups and organizations currently. Were working with kinds of hospitals on their wellness, their staff. Their staff comes to the center and they drum for an hour as a means of focusing on creating healing. We also use art. Visual arts. Young people come together and they design murals and they work with artists and they implement and put up those murals, beatify their communities. We will hear more of the drumming later. Tell us about the schools. You also work with schools, right . We work with schools. We do side by side learning as well as afterschool programming. And we dont just do art for arts sakes. Its around equity and justice. And also we use art as a means of helping young people to see that they have the power to choose. They can change their lives. They can choose to one very Important Program is where young people reinvent themselves as superheroes to solve problems in their neighborhoods. And there is a curriculum that really used california state standards for education thats embedded in the curriculum and then the young people use art and visual arts as well as Fashion Design as tools for learning math, as tools for learning reading. There is a reading component to it. Young people also learn skills. This is a great introduction. And we are going to to hear more about it in the next segment. As an introduction, this has been great. Thank you for being with us. Thank you. Continue to join us in this next segment with attitudinal healing connection. Ring ring progresso. Look for the big g, it means goodness first. [drumming] thats called mindful drumming. I call it ecstatic drumming. Its exciting, isnt it . Tell us about that drumming. You sit. You give to the name that your interpretation of what i was doing. Its actually calling and invoking the spiritual who came before us to come and bless us today. But its a part of mindful drumming. And mindful drumming comes from wisdom tradition, which means that mindful drumming creates community, have people come together and build community. It also helps with people that are having mental trauma issues. So its also for ceremony. I know dr. Martin luther king jr. Services for 14 years you would start it off with that . Yes. And i understand once every fourth friday, last friday of the month, you have mindful drumming. Tell us where that is located again. Its at 278 west street in oakland, california. The zip code is 94608. And about ten years ago i wrote this book called mindful drumming, ancient wisdom that you must read. And what it is is that truly helps people to build communities. 25 years ago we started the center in oakland. We were offering workshops on diversity. Today as we speak people are dying because we look different or somebody looks different. Recent issue is when the Police Officer killed this young man in ferguson. Right. And so i use mindful drumming for people to come together. Anyone drums . You dont have to have a talent and rhythm . You dont have to have rhythm. You dont have to be a musician. Oh, thats great. Yes. Its amazing. We have more women come to do this than men. And sometimes they drive very fast to come. Tell us about the beyond fear, the book you guys wrote. We wrote beyond fear in 1998. And it was a tool that we felt that, as americans, we really wanted to really begin to see that we are all human beings. So we spent a lot of time looking at the 12 principles of healing that the essence of our being is love. The essence of our being, all of us, is love. Why do we fight each other . Why do we want to kill each other because i dont look like you are i dont speak like you or i dont have the same religion that you have . So the whole focus of beyond fear is to look at ways that we can move beyond fear, whether we can begin to understand as human beings we all have the same issues. We all breathe. We all believe when you cut, you know, everybodys blood is red. Scriptures tell us that perfect love casts out fear. Thats the whole focus of beyond fear. And so this book is still very relevant today. You can visit our website www. Ahcoakland. Org and you will find this book as well as the superhero as well as mindful drumming. You can begin to look at tools that you can use to heal. Beyond fear is so important. Its just as important as it was in 1998 as well as 1898. Its great quotations in there. Yeah, great quotations, but also exercises that a person can use to begin to work on healing ones self and begin to see that would you are and what you have and what you who you think you are is no different than someone else. Now, the International Organization is about 40 years old . Yeah. But youre about 25 . Yes, we are 25 years old. We are Member Centers to a lot of International Centers around the world. Dr. Jared founded attitudinal healing 25 years ago for children who were life threatened. So the whole idea around looking at the principles of attitudinal and making sure that they are practiced, health is inner peace. Healing is letting go of fear. Fear is the cheapest room in the house. Its where we go to when and its the cheapest way to deal with issues. Thats excellent. In the next segment we are going to talk about the 25th anniversary coming up at scotts restaurant next tonight. Its going to be fun. You dont want to miss it. Please join us. Lets hear more about attitudinal healing connection. Turn around every now and then i get a little bit hungry and theres nothing really good around turn around every now and then i get a little bit tired of living off the taste of the air turn around, barry finally, i have a manly chocolatey snack and fiber so my wife wont give me any more flack i finally found the right snack i finally found the right snack well, i drove grandpa to speed dating this week, so i should probably get the last roll. Taste better in our savory broth. Vegetables . No, soup oh, soup loaded with vegetables. Packed with taste. And now try new progresso chili. Slowsimmered, homemade taste. Kokomon with what i call ecstatic drumming. Whats the importance of drumming . Drumming is an ancient technology that when i was writing my book, mindful drumming, i was doing my research, i was very struck for two reasons that i discovered and observed. One is that there is drum in every culture. All over the world, every country do have a drum. And that was one. And, number two, it they all use the drum for the same reason. For ritual. For ceremony. And also there is a place called Dinosaur Ridge in morrison, colorado, and actually i went over there. There is a Mile High Church in colorado that they invite you to come. They took us, our friends took us to morrison, colorado to see Dinosaur Ridge. Footprints of dinosaurs that led the planet 100 million years ago. And what was very powerful is the fact that the dinosaurs footprints demonstrated that they walked in music. With a we call common time. Thats the way as humans, we walk in common time. One, two, three, four. One, two, three. The reason why drumming is truly important is that i believe that because we all carry the drum, our inner drum. That is our heartbeat. For example, if somebody is traumatized, for whatever reason, or they are afraid, right away they come put their hands on their chest to feel their heartbeat. It also would be important for them to close their eyes so they are not distracted to feel their heartbeat, their inner drum. I see. And to make connection with their inner drum. If they do it correctly, they will be connected with spirit. They will be connected with god. They will connect with and the mind, too . Yes. Thats why its mindful . Thats right. I like that. And you were talking, that came to me. Yes. So this is why drumming is more important than was realized. Now, mindful drumming sometimes people think, oh, mindful drumming is a very unique way of drumming. And its synchronized. For example, the other day we were working some show talking about empire penguins. When they consummate relationship they get into synchronized dance. They really check one another out. It to really make sure that their relationship, theyre going to be in this relationship for a very long time. And so that is the wisdom of mindful drumming. So drumming is really, really important in our life. I encourage my friend to have a drum in their house. Even if you dont drum, dont play the drum now. That is because all drums fall in the same principle. That wind goes in and sound comes out of it. You mentioned the penguins. One of my favorite movies is the march of the pep begins. The march. Penguins. The march of the penguins, watch what im saying because they have it. And also there is another movie called wing migration where birds fly from the cold regions from canada, for example, to brazil. And they are able to do that because they all fly together. Lets go back to the 25th here. Yes. We are getting ready for our 25th anniversary. The attitudinal healing connection has been envisioned for a peaceful world. A world where everyone is safe, loved, and educated. So for 25 years we have focused on loving our communities and using love as a metaphor for bring people together. So the 25th anniversary will be at scotts pavilion in jack london square. We are going to have a wonderful jazz brand. You will be able to view our videos. Some of our young people who grew up in the organization a lot of mindful drumming there. Yes. Mindful drumming. And also we will have young people. We are going to do some shout outs to him. And we are asking jerry brown to d a shout out because he gave us a letter when he was mayor of oakland, acknowledging the good work that we have been doing. Great. So we are excited. Its time to celebrate. 25 years is a long time to stand really creating an avenue for young people to learn. With the schools. With the city. All the different organizations all this time. A lot of work. And also the fact that were looking at bringing people together. Our focus is collective impact, that no one person, no one individual, no one organization, no one religion can really solve the problems that we have in our world. Its going to take all of us coming together and having collective impact. And as we can just learn because we are. We actually brought drums from africa. Wow. Yeah. So we have drums in oakland. Somebody interested in having their own drum. Tell us that address again. 3278 west street. Thats in oakland, 94608. So we have the drums. But i will share with you during the break, reverend, that in toeds world, modern world, with all the division and all the diversity, the best strategy for Team Building is through mindful drumming. Cooperations . Cooperations. Even small organizations or Small Businesses that do have diverse staff. If they want to have increased productivity, one way to do it is practice mindful drumming. For example, last year i was invited by a big company in mountain view. We did mindful drumming for 15 engineers. 14 men and two women. It was very, very powerful. For three hours. And so people can go on our website www. Ahcoakland. Org for inquiries or call 510 6525530 if they have questions. Great drum. We will have to have that iphone 6, huh . Right. Communicate . Communication. I am glad you said that because that is one way also to see where do community there is a book called the hidden spiritualality of men. Thats right. And in there he talks about the communication as talking as a dialect, as we know it. The technology that was created or developed is 125,000 years ago. But now i see young people sitting and facing one another and texting. So my prediction may be in the next 60 years we will all stop talking. Everybody will be texting. Everything is in court today, if you can prove that i said something to you. I didnt say it. And you can show on your phone that in fact i said it in a text, you know. It can be held as evidence in court. So drumming is very, very, very important in our life. We have just a minute left. Anything else . Oh, i want to encourage people to come and visit us.
