cheers and applause this is the cbs weekend news. Quijano good evening. Im Elaine Quijano. An intense manhunt is under way for a gunman who opened fire early today at a waffle house near nashville, tennessee. It happened in the town of antioch, hours before the sun came up. At least four people are dead. Two others are critically wounded. The gunman was halfnaked and armed with a semiautomatic assaultstyle rifle. Investigators say the suspect ets arrested by secret Service Last Year for being in a restricted area near the white house. Mark strassmann has the latest from tennessee. Reporter around 3 30 a. M. , a gunman wearing only a jacket, naked from the waist down, began firing at customers at this waffle house. Reporter police say the gunman, identified as 29year old travis reinking, killed two people in the parking lot before heading inside, where he killed two more. Reinking got out of his truck armed with an ar15 rifle and started shooting. He clearly came armed with a lot of firepower intending to devastate the south nashville area. Reporter Chuck Cordero rktched him pull up in the parking lot. Naked except for a jacket and his gun, and he started shooting people. He shot someone at the door. He then shot my friend, and then i hit the ground and tried to keep an eye on him from underneath my car. He shot a couple windows out and then stepped inside of the restaurant and started shooting. I grabbed him, and i grabbed the gun. I started hitting and punching. When it was in one hand, i just kind of grabbed it from him and lifted it really high tossed it over the counter. Reporter customer james shaw wrestled the gun away from the hero. I dont think i want to be a hero. I want to be james, and james used what he had to free himself, and in the midst of freeing himself, he saved, you know, people, so yeah, theyre in our yard now. Reporter police used dogs to search through dense brush for the suspect. A neighbor named Jeremy Searcy posted this video on twitter and said, watching it unfold in my backyard crazy. Ive seen them all live on the news from the helicopter e ming over the hill and then realized that was actually behind our house. Reporter three of the victims were killed at the restaurant. A fourth died later at the hospital. Elaine, they never stood a chance against a gunman who pulled into the parking lot and right away started shooting. Quijano mark strassmann, thank you. President trump spent the weekend at his maralago resort in palm beach, florida. He also had a busy weekend on twitter, weighing in on a variety of subjects from the russia investigation to north korea. Errol barnett has the latest. Reporter it is a weekend of president ial contrasts. While the countrys foremost recent president s and four first ladies paid their respects at the funeral for barbara bush, current president , donald trump, lunt a flurry of frustrated tweets about fired f. B. I. Director james comey, embattled personal attorney michael cohen, as well as attorney general Jeff Sessions and his deputy, rod lesenstein. He stands up for people in his inner circle and people he knows. Reporter adviser to the president Kellyanne Conway explained why mr. Trump sent tweets about cohen, who is currently under criminal investigation. W hes defending someone who he has worked with and known for a dozen plus years, dana, and who he thinks is being treated unfairly. Reporter special counsel Robert Muellers probe is also on the president s mind. Mr. Trump is accusing comey, who is on a book tour, of illegally sharing classified memos to trigger the d. O. J. s investigation, which comey denies. And attorney general sessions, d. O recused himself from the inquiry, reportedly told the white house he would resign if rosenstein, his deputy overseeing the matter, was fired. I think that we all have frustrations and that the scope has gone well beyond what was intended to be. O reporter despite the seesidents anger, adviser marc short says no one is losing their job. Its like an hourglass waiting to see if okay, whens he going to fire rosenstein . Whens he going to fire mueller . Weve had the same conversation. As far as i know, the president has no intention of firing these individuals. Reporter now, late friday, another legal claim was made against those close to President Trump. The d. N. C. Is seeking financial damages stemming from the hacking of its email server, naming donald trump, jr. , Jared Kushner and other Campaign Officials as well as the russian government as defendants. President trump in response said the democrats are just suing republicans for winning the election. Elaine . Quijano errol, thank you. For more on the president s weekend, lets bring in face the nation moderator Margaret Brennan. Idrgaret, the North Koreans have announced theyre going to suspend Ballistic Missile and Nuclear Testing and shut down a testing site. How significant is that ahead of a potential summit between President Trump and the north earean leader . Reporter well, this was what the white house already expected north korea to do ahead of that hommit. The addition of that nuclear site in the north was news. But as senator tom cotton said to us on this program, and hes a close ally of the white house, to stop testing is better than the alternative, but its not much better than that. Thats because north korea did not pledge to give up its nuclear program, negotiate them away, perhaps, at that upcoming trump kim jongun summit. They also did not say they wouldnt continue to develop nuclear weapons. Just because youre not firing off missiles or testing doesnt mean youre not running computer models or enriching different kinds of weaponsgrade material that could be used in the future. It also doesnt mean youre not selling that knowledge elsewhere. Quijano and yet President Trumps explicitly stated goal is the complete denuclearization of north korea. How realistic is that . Reporter yes, well, the president tweeted that this was actually an accomplishment and that the u. S. Hasnt given anything up. He says that north korea has agreed to full denuclearization. The problem is what that word means depends on where you stand. In the past, when north korea has said they used that term denuclearization, they have also meant the removal of u. S. Forces and the removal of south korea, our ally, from underneath Americas Nuclear umbrella, basically giving up our protection of them. Its not clear what kim jongun means this time or if the white house has anything more that they know that they havent shared publicly at this point. But to declare victory before these direct talks have happened is a bit too quick in the view of many analysts, and even many within the white house. Quijano Margaret Brennan in washington. But there is another reason, that we realize now the changes in the brain that happen with alzheimers happen ten, 20, 30 years before the symptoms. Ngd maybe whats been happening boer the last decades when weve been trying to use medicines and they have been working is were trying them too late. Its like if you would give somebody lipitor after their fifth heart attack and theyre already in Heart Failure its too late. The idea here is get into a clinical trial, get diagnosed early, get into a clinical trial, and maybe theres something that if its given earlier in the disease, it will, in fact, be helpful.
