A tripleheader holiday concert, and thats all in our saturday session. Our top story this morning, president obamas promise to punish north koreas hack attack against Sony Pictures. Sony is being sharply criticized deciding not to show the interview. And then north korea is proposing a joint investigation with the United States on the cyber attack. North korea is calling the fbis accusations slander. Now, yesterday the president didnt minutes words when it came to north korea or sony. He said while he was sympathetic to sonys concerns the studio should not have backed down to north korea. I think they made a mistake. Reporter president obama said u. S. Citizens and businesses should not change the way they operate and they warned against the precedents set. I wish they would have spoken to me first, and i would have told them do not get into a pattern in which you are intimidated by these kinds of criminal attacks. And sony said it did reach out to the white house. We have not caved. We have not given in. We have persevered and we have not backed down. We have we have always had every desire to have the american publicity this movie. The predicated threats were overblown and in a big of north korea, korea. You want us to kill the leader of north korea . Yes. What . I love seth, and i love james, but the notion that that was a threat to them i think gives you some sense of the kind of regime we are talking about here. That said the cyber attack on Sony Pictures is one of the most destructive ever directed against a u. S. Based corporation. President obama said all indications point to north korea acting on its own and vowed to punish the regime. We will respond in a place and time and manner that we choose. In a statement the fbi said ip aware desires and malware were similar to those used in attacks linked to north korea. They wrote, north koreas action were intended to inflict significant harm on a u. S. Business and such acts of intimidation fall outside the bounds of acceptable state behavior. The president obamas options for sanctions appear to be limited. Thank you. Is this turning into an allout cyber war against north korea . Our National Senior security correspondent joins us. Lets talk about the idea of responding proportionately, which the president said. What might he be talking about here . Theres no playbook for an attack like this from a state nation attacking a private company, and intimidating it. I think what the president is talking about is looking at a range of options. Increased economic sanctions and targeting leadership assets and maybe cyber retaliation, and maybe Creative Things Information Warfare to use the dimensions of the attack against the north koreans, and theres no playbook and thats why the president is still waiting for options and has to make a choice. I dont think anybody is surprised that north korea is denying they had a role in it and the fbi saying they definitely had a role in it. Why are they denying they had a role in it . Trying to place the blame of the cyber attack on the perpetrator is one of the most difficult things in a cyber attack and the perpetrator, and you have seen it in the case of china and russia and iran and syria, and they claim to deny it, and its hard to prove in public. You heard in the fbis explanation as to how they determined north koreas culpability, not revealing too much as to what we know and how we know it and they know we will have difficulty talking publicly about the proof of why they were behind the attack. When we look at this you look at a company like sony and you think, how can their system get infiltrated like this . Should we be shocked by this . You have seen this year has been a year of major cyber infiltrations. You mention at the start of the show the staples hack and you see target and home depot, and major banks like jpmorgan that have important Security Systems in place has been hacked as well, and the reality is private companies are right in the middle of this and have to insure that they are securing their systems, but the reality is you have state actors going after data and trying to destroy some of the companies, and is that a difficult thing to defend against. So interesting to think that a movie stemmed a plot that almost seems like a movie in and of itself. Thank you so much. Thank you. Another hacking scandal on this. What is expected to be the busiest shopping day of the year. Staples says more than 1 million of the credit card information may have been stolen months ago. It becomes the latest in a long list of Retail Stores to suffer a cyber attack. Good morning, michael. Good morning. How alarmed should we be as consumers . Ultimately when these things happen the consumer is rarely on the hook for any of the charges. Its the banks that have the most at stake. That said the banks are not going to catch every single fraudulent charge, so as a consumer you need to keep an eye on the statements and line by line make sure you know what is going on and dont be afraid to communicate with the Credit Card Company if theres a problem, and be aware this type of thing can happen. This is the busiest shopping time of the year. These criminals targeted staples in the back to School Season. And theres a lot of people in there. The back to School Season is june and july. Why did it take so long to figure out the breach and the reality for the people that had been breached could it affect their credit score moving forward . Ore moving forward . Probably not. The banks will wipe out any fraudulent charges from their credit score. As you said the first sort of signs of it were at stores in springfield, pennsylvania, and jersey city new jersey about july 0th. They found it at those two stores first. Then the investigation showed around august 20th is when it spread likely to the rest of the stores. About 115 stores 35 states. So really scattered all across the country but very heavily focused in cases like pennsylvania, new york california, florida, the very heavily populated states. So the way these things work is typically the criminals gather up all the data and sell it on the black market for others who go and run up a flurry of bad charges and the cops are sort of on the beat who put it all together. When you look at this and look at that its happened to target, home depot, staples sony, it looks like nobodys safe. Right. You know its a growing problem. And this one was more than 1 million customers. If you look back at home depot and target youre talking, you know, 40 million, 50 million customers. Yeah. Its a growing problem. And this point of sale attack where they literally take your information right as you swipe your credit card is a problem they quite havent been able to fix yet. Theyre trying to encrypt the data and bring in all kinds of consultants, but its not a problem thats going away soon. Not what we want to hear as were shopping. Thank you. Thank you. It looks like possible storms could slow travels down. Ed curran of our cbs station wb bb wbbm in chicago. Good morping. Good morning. If youre traveling or shopping but were watching this storm up in the pacific northwest. It could bring several inches of rain to spots there and snow to tupper elevations and were looking at some problems up there as far as Winter Weather advisories in those areas denoted here and also we have a winter storm area for the areas in pink and winter storm watches as well. Thats up in the northwest. Our futurecast shows us that continues to trek in the east. We start to develop our next system and this is the headache were looking at midweek. Serious power. It is time now for morning round. Chief medical correspondent dr. Jon lapook and contributor dr. Holly phillips. We begin with a health battle. Hockey teams off the ice. The mumps. The bench is benching top players across the nhl. Ite note clear how it began. Vladimir duthiers shows us how the disease may be spreading. When the Pittsburgh Penguins took to the ice last weekend, star forward Sidney Crosby wasnt on it. The team confirmed that the twotime mvp had the mumps. It came about as a bit of a surprise to us because every indication was that he was well protect against the disease. Even early tests came back negative but even sick he came across with a swollen face, a common sim thom. Its one of those things that yeah, i feel good. They affected over a dozen players. Last weekend the rangers sent home. Crosby had been vaccinated as a child and got a booster shot but experts say it can ware off and locker rooms combined with in your face action make for the perfect breeding ground. The players have a lot of prolonged contact in practice and the games. They live together, they travel together, and then they can spread it to the other teams. In a statement the nhl said it is certainly an outbreak which was unexpected but it is not something which we have any significant control over as long as the clubs are doing what they need to do to minimize risk of con traction were hopeful the wave of cases will run their course and life will return to normal. Its obvious were concerning about this. Its disease going throughout the league and you just dont know how far it can spread. The doctor talked a lot about contact but how is it actually spreading . This is a virus thats spread in droplets. Its a live mucus. You can spread it if youre infected by talking, by coughing by sneezing and in the case of a hockey player hipchecking them into a corner and yelling at them. You see on tv on closeup spit flying. Its not surprising to see somebody get infect thad way. Holly, how do you treat and prevent mumps . There really is no specific treatment for mumps. Its about supportive cave and monitoring. In terms of prevention the best way to prevent it is through the vaccine. Two doiss of the vaccine lowered your risk of getting the illness by 88 . The vaccine is given around it between the ables of 4 and 6. Most people keep that level of munlt throughout their lives. Most see a drop. Some dont. Also memory. 20 over age 65 suffer from mental lapses. Holly, what sort of memory loss are we talking about in this study . Right anthony. This is about a specific type of memory loss. Its called mild Cognitive Impairment impairment. Its different than dementia. Its more mild and more common. Some of the things are being forgettable, forgetting appointments, misplacing things having trouble finding your words and all of us experience that, but mild Cognitive Impairment is more defined by having persistent change in the amount of these sorts of you know moments. Its also people over the age of 65. Is that sort of the ballpark when we should start discussing these issues with our doctors . I actually thing you should be discussing them with your doctors all the time. I think although its not actually full blown dementia, its part of the spectrum and the pathway toward dementia. I think doctors are a little bit too flip. People are saying im having trouble with memory. You see somebody and you know their name but you cant quite think of their name and i know that sometimes youll Say Something like, look its one thing if you cant find your car keys its another if you find the keys and dont know what they do. Any kind of concern, you talk to your doctor because there are tests we can do. There are manyny mental exams we can do in the office more formal cognitive testing. One of the things we learned is we need to be diagnosing dementia much much earlier so we can see if these new treatments work. A super bacteria was found in the bay off Rio De Janeiro, site of the 2016 olympics. It will host the wind sailing olympics. They promise to cut the amount of sewage that flows into the bay. New Research Shows that yoga may be as good for your heart as certain aerobic workouts. I think my wife planted this study. Jon, can you tell us about this study . Its literature. Almost 3,000 subjects. The idea was, yoga you tend to think of it as maybe not all that aerobic so how does it stack up against true aerobic exercise and the truth is it stacks up pretty darn well. There are lots of different types of yoga. Some of them are more aerobic and more you do a lot more exertion than others. Iss a combination of physical mental, and spiritual. What they found is that people who did yoga had a decrease in Blood Pressure in pulse, in improvement in their lipids they lost weight, so clearly there is a role for yoga and it stacks up pretty well. Does that mean we should basically ditch our Running Shoes and pick up yoga mats . Not at all although im a biggio ga fan. The point is to keep up your exercise. If youre in jogging, spin class, all of those things low your our risk of heart disease. Some of those poses are hard to master. They can be impossible. From deep stretching to deep breathing, if the stress of extra holiday pounds has you stressed, just exhale. A new study finds that 80 of fat leaves the body. I want to exhale. How does it work . Its an interesting writeup in the british medical journal. Theres been controversy about where we lose weight where exactly does the fat go and much of the thinks was just that we burp it off through heat therm oh genic energy through our body. This study, we did these complicated calculations and formulas and they ultimately found that a lot of the remnants of fat we actually breathe out in the form of carbon dioxide. So when we lose fat, were exhaling it in a way. What this does not mean is you should hyperventilation. No. Thats just what i was thinking, jon. Dr. Jon lapook, dr. Holly phillips. Thanks. The future of television is here and its on your computer. Viewers view it as a revolution. Just this week nbc joins cbs and hbo in Live Streaming to mobile devices. Lets learn more from the senior editor. Good morning. Start off with people not in the streaming people and for people not as familiar with it what is it and how is nbc tv different than the ones on abc and cbs. They have to give people access to live content on their laptops and phones, and not just prerecorded shows, and everybody wants to give you live shows. If you watch tv a la carte like this, what does that mean for cable . Its not ala cart in most cases, and to watch the nbc stream or the hbo or abc, you have to log in with your Cable Company and user name and password and you dont know that, and that means the Cable Company stays in the mix, and you cant dump it except one, and thats cbs. Lets cost about costs. We saw 5. 95. If you are interested in paying a certain amount of for netflix, and next year you can get hbo ala cart as a service, and if you are willing to go through the hurtles to watch Different Things on different devices and logins, but some people find it easier to watch their cable tv. Live tv is important for cable, right . And thats what they are adding, and the three big networks are Live Streaming to a certain degree and that is really the holy grail to get the same experience of flipping through the channels on your tablet or other device thats where they want to go. The transformation is underway but when do you think we will make the move to where tv is the past . Thats the future. People watching things over the internet and different devices, and the Cable Companies may be worried about this but if you think about it you get your Internet Service from the Cable Provider most of the time. Ervice frorom your cablble provideder. Online versus through the cable box youre paying time warner. Where do you think this all ends up then . In the future i think this could be ten years, 20 years sort of like when print newspapers are going go out. Well probably transition to a model where were getting everything over itt, internet tv versus the cable line coming into your house, but if it works out well to tend user its going to be fairly transparent because youre going to be able to watch all the channels live or on dvr. It also seems more efficient. Watching exactly what you want. Even now, if you try to go through your on demand menus its never as easy as they make it out to be. Thank you. She and him and Rufus Wainwright. But next party animals, how theyre being used more and more in wedding celebrations and why some are not happy about it. For some of you, your local news is next. For the rest of you stick around. This is cbs this Morning Saturday. Lets talk about selma. You play Annie Lee Cooper who lived to over 100 years old and what a strong woman. She was denied how many times . That was her fifth time. When you see that scene in the movie that was her fifth time. Thats why the movie and all that it representatives means so much to me and another one of the reasons why i said yes to the role. I didnt want to do the role but ava sent me a clip about annie cooper when she turn 100, and in the story every day she watched the oprah show at 4 00 and had a tuna sandwich. That was a sign. You cannot resist that. Also because of what she represents. All of those people ancestors who are part of my legacy our leg cy legacy that kept up. Youre denied you get up go again, you study the constitution if you go, you risk your life or have your house burned down. Im old enough to have known some of them and met josea williams. Whats amazeing about this, it reminds us that every step has been a struggle. Yeah. It continues today. But we see here, you know that you really cannot give up and you have to push and we see it today in otherand its taking place in other parts of the country. To me the parallels with us there was such a strategic rug russ plan and there was plan this is what we want we want to right to vote and this is our intention to go about getting. And there were divisions within the community. And there were divisions within the community. Welcome to cbs this Morning Saturday. Im anthony mason. And im vinita nair. Coming up this half hour, going wild at the wedding. Were not talking about the guests but actual animals taking part in the actually ceremony. Its a growing trend but not everybody is happy about it. Frequent flying miles. If you think its frustrating now trying to earn and use miles. Look out. In two weeks it will be a lot worse. And it is the most wonderful and delicious time of the year. Well show you what Jacques Torres, mr. Chocolate, is cooking up in his chocolate famtry. But first continuing fallout from Sony Pictures decision to pull its comedy, the interview. The fbi said the threats to hackers linked to the north korean government and president obama said the u. S. Will retaliate. Julia nayewel Julianna Goldman is in our washington bureau. Good morning. Good morning. They say they had nothing to do with the attack. Yesterday president obama said north korea was to blame but that sony made a mistake in canceling its release. I wish they would have spoken to me first. I would have told them do not get into a pattern in which youre intimidated by these types of criminal attacks. Sony said they havent caved and they said they still hope that anyone who wants to see this movie will get the opportunity to do so. During his press con fwrens the president indicates the threat from north korea was overblown and he dismissed the leader kim jongun who announced an allout assault on a film. They caused a lot of damage. And we will respond. We will respond proportionately, and well respond in a place and time and manner that we choose. The fbi said friday it identified i pip addresses. It also cited similarities between the sony incident and attacks on the south korean banks and Media Outlets last march. At this point the president s options for punishment are somewhat limited. They include a counter cyber attack or Freezing Bank accounts of north koreans. Thank you, julianna. One of the biggest questions to come oust this how might it affect the way hollywood makes and distributes movies. Lets talk about that with derek. Good morning, derek. Good morning. This movie cost 145 million to make. How much is it going to cost them to bail on it . First let me say the irony of this in most industries, you have a product that anybody can buy but nobody knows about it. A book a music album. This is the exact opposite. Every Single Person knows about this mean and nobody can buy it nobody can see it. The most famous movie and nobody can see it. You have a 44 million production cost and 25 mill 30 million for markets. Movies are enormously expensive. When you think of what theyre losing, you have to thing how much they would have made. This is what becomes tricky. A lot of people are putting it around 100 million. But if sony chooses to release this on demand what household isnt interested about it and isnt a little curious about it if it werent on everyones list . Its interesting. When the president made a comment that he thinks sony made a mistake by pulling the film i was surprised he said that. It was like do you think movie producers should run it by him for approval . Sony was right to pull the meesh, had to pull the movie and the president was right to say sony made a mistake. The president s constituency is not hollywood or the exhibiters who are going to show it. Its the american people. What he felt and his advisers felt, there was a lot of confusion and angst that people felt like freedom of expression was somehow being curtailed because threats from a hermit government were somehow preventing a government as a piece of art. This has raised some serious questions for hollywood about how its going to make movies if its under threat for this kapd of thing. You have actors like george clooney, hes been very outspoken. Hi started a petition that no one would sign. It doesnt make the next citizen cane but the next x men. Hes not wants to put his name on a piece of paper that my result in someone being hurt. The problem is that if theres some sort of copycat attack if anything happens in the movie theaters, the exhibiters can be held legally responsibility and sony is going to be blamed. Nobody wanted to put their name on that. Derek thompson which could be the biggest censoring of the nation. Bob schieffers guests will include republican senators marco rubio of florida and Lindsey Graham of South Carolina and democrat of North Carolina chris holland. Staples said data of 1 million of its customers were stolen earlier this year. Staples is the latest of a long list of retailers to be hit by computer hackers is. The u. S. Supreme court refused to stop gay marriages in florida. The court decided not to step into a florida fields case. They had previously declared gay marriage unconstitutionals. Samesex marriage licenses can stat being issued in the state after january 5th. When it comes to weddings many thing bigger and bolder is better. That including a wild ceremony involving exotic animals. That leads to logistical issues. Heres David Begnaud. Reporter when dreaming of a perfect wedding, nothing says love quite like llamas . I never would have thought ever in a million years that two llamas would have shown up at my wedding. Paintball pete and serendipity wore matching tuxedo bibs as they stood near their idos. There were a lot of screams laughing oh my god. It was a great surprise for everybody. Reporter exotic animals are becoming a must have for couples to make their weddings unforgettable. Theres a penguin proposal at the cincinnati zoo where he asked his penguincrazed girlfriend to marry him. She did. In las vegas where opulence is in good company, a groom of indian descent rode atop an elephant at the bellagio hotel. Some 4,000 guests danced around the elephant thought to be good luck. Torey cooper is the wedding planner. Its a pa rt of their culture. When i stand back and im a part of it. How can you say anything but wow. How much was that elephant . 10,000. Exotic animals make for a high end wedding because theyre hard to get approval or make them come from the middle of the desert. They have a multimilliondollar insurance policy before the animals with allowed on sight. In fact, any animal used in a wedding has to be monitored by the federal government. They must follow a travel itinerary and make sure theres enough distance between the animal and the public, but distance was not what this bride wanted when she got up close and personal with a lion cub. Heres a that same bride and her groom with a giraffe, and this a photo so spectacular it looks photoshopped but its not. That photo was actually taken here at the lion habitat ranch in las vegas where couples looking to get married or perhaps if they want to have a wedding here can get ride inside this jeep as the handler throw as piece of stake so hopefully hell get in right position for that perfect shot. Sometimes take its sometimes takes a few pieces. Whats the draw . That its a lot cheaper than going to africa. He own as ranch for couples looking to add some roar to their vows. Its become popular to do different over the top weddings. Everybody has a wedding photo. They want something nobody else has. Reporter in huntington beach, california, they dont want any exotic animals used as entertainment at weddings. Theyve had a law since 2002 banning it so earlier this year when an el familiarity was used in a wedding there, the city was highpressed. The hotel had given permission for the wedding. They knew better. They know we told them with u this was not allowed. No citations were issued. It is a reminder that whelp it comes to exotic animals, the laws may vary, but the reactions are as priceless as the memories made. It was the best and Biggest Surprise of my life and it made an amazing day so much better. Reporter for cbs this Morning Saturday im David Begnaud in las vegas. Kind of gives new meaning of the phrase, my wedding was a zoo. My only thought was as a former bridezilla why would you want anything taking the eyes awe of you. A 10,000 elephant. When airlines introduced frequent flyer programs it was one of the most ingenious marketing schemes ever. Credit Card Companies soon got if in the game with the programs, with the carriers. Now times have changed. It is harder to earn miles and to use them. In fact, in our 17. 5 trillion unredeemed frequent miles in circulation. Travel editor Peter Greenberg explains why its about to get even worse. I didnt know it could get worse. That means there are more unredeemed miles in circulation out there in the world than theres currency in circulation around the world. You saw this coming. It had to happen because everybody wants to get miles. You can get miles for everything short of breathing. The credit Card Companies get in there. 54 of all mileage earned is from people making purchases. People arent flying. You have all these miles out there and nowhere else to go. Delta will be the first. This ire going to link miles earned to the price of the ticket than distance. Whats the significance of this . Until now if you flew you got a thousand miles. Starting next month if you fly a thousand miles and youre not a frequent flyer, you get a completely reduced number of points. Up until now you got 4,900 miles because thats whats on the flight. If youre not a regular passenger that number drops way down. Maybe 2,000 miles. So its not onlier to redeem them but harder to earn them. Is this a trickle down . United looks like theyre planning on it. Its done on a tee based on your status at the airline but even if youre at the highest tear, you create less mileage. People dont realize the Airlines Make more money from operating their frequent flyer programs and in many cases they operate as airlines. Really. Yeah. Because they print the currency. The mileage which they sell to the credit Card Companies at 1. 4 cent as mile knowing that their redemption miles are going to be under 8 . Mafia loan sharks dont get this kind of return. They dont. Its impossible. We havent haerpd anything from american yet. Are they going to do this as well . Every indication is they will. The only reason they havent is because they havent integrated their system. They expect to do that by april or may. Once that happens, you can count on it. Do you think its good to use specialty cards to redeem miles . If youre going to do it anyway, sure. If you use it just to redeem youre crazy. By the time you get that socalled free ticket its cost you a lot of money. Bottom line even if travelers do earn the points are you going to dream them . Think of 30 days out. Dont think of every place you want to go. Pick des moines. I dont care but at least youll go. What an enticing trip. Hey ill see you on the plane. Grinch of frequent flyer miles. Im soy to be the messager, but there it is. Thank you. Up next hes been called the real willy wonka and does he have the Chocolate Factory. Im not going to eat one alone, am i . Youre going have one. Americans spent 409 million on christmas chocolate in 2012. Our guest is one of santas sweetest helpers and this week he showed me around his new factory where cocole it meets ho ho ho. European peanut butter. When jacques opened up his first chocolate shop in new york he knew exactly what he wanted chocolate that makes you stop and stare. Chocolate that makes you stop and stare with taste that just makes you happy. We can get all of that. 14 years and eight shops later this modern day willy wonka has opened up a Chocolate Factory of his own. We actually have a lot of different products. Its a santa boot. Thats cute. We joined him for a brandnew tour in brooklyn. Chocolate still makes him giddy. Chocolate snowmen. Do you ever pinch yourself . It seems like a dream. I love it. When i come in the morn i turn the lights on im like oh, my god, looking at that place, its cool. Inside his cool 40,000 square foot place torres and his team make almost everything they sell. These molds are only available during the holidays. The snowmen are going to get one, two three, four didnt color. Red, green, milk chocolate, and dark chocolate. Why not do that by machine . You know thats who we are. We make our product by hand. Its a lot of craftsmanship into what hewe do. Torres said he learned his craftsmanship from his father who was a carpenter. He mastered flavor combinations. By 1989 he had the coveted job of pastry chef in new yorks famed la circle restaurant but in 2000 he and Business Partner ken got toe decided to leave restaurants and focus exclusively on chocolate. Whats happening here is we put the chocolate only on one side of the mode and them we put the other side and then when you spin the mode the chocolate go all around and the inside is empty. Reporter torres said some of his creations are inspired by childlike appearances in the south of france. He comes up with most of the ideas and ken figures out the technical side. This line here is where the empty boxes pass in front of the employee and then they take chocolates and they put the chocolates into the boxes and then we seal the box. This is called prepackaged. Reporter while boxed chocolates are a main item this time of year. He said this Assembly Line he calls i love lucy is almost running. We make it before we go home. They dry all night and now we have to put them into the enrobing line and then they go into a bath of chocolate, completely covered, and a little vibration here thats going to shake the extra chocolate. In eight minutes theyre going to get out on the other side and if you want to you can go on the other side and eat them as fast as you can. Reporter as soon as they finish drying his staff checks them for quality. This stack is filled with marshmallow. The chocolate didnt coat them perfectly. Do you ever hear from customers if theres a nick . It can happen. Usually i call the consumer myself i apologize. You call yourself. Oh, yes, absolutely. Half of it is being devoted to making it. The other half is getting it where it needs to be. The colors are inspired by cacao pa, the plant where the chocolate comes from. This is a hat box. This is a sampler. So you will receive it like that. So almonds here hock chocolate powder, then pretzels then cheerios then a box of chocolate. Reporter while torres says he would love to expand he said hes already living out his dream. Next week will be one of his busiest but its just the start of the chocolate demand. We ease up and then the next stage is valentines and then easter and then im going fishing. Im going on vacation. I have a feeling youre not, but good luck. He is just so delightful. He shared a funny story with me. I wondered when mr. Chocolate the name came about. He said when he wanted to start a business, he want god online. He knew no one would spell his name right so he called himself mr. Chocolate. Did you walk out with stuff . Tupperware backpack. If youre looking for a Christmas Present for me a chocolate santa looks so good. Its coming up. The wildly popular cooking of an Award Winning chef sean brock. Next on the dish, its real southern comfort. Youre watching cbs this Morning Saturday. Upcoming movie american sniper, cooper is barely recognizable. Shes got grenades she handed a grenade to the kid. He plays navy s. E. A. L. Chris kyle the deadliest sniper in u. S. History with more than 150 kills in iraq. Initially i thought there was no way i could do it. I thought chris could do it. You thought chris pratt could do it. Yeah, im from philadelphia. Im a buck 85. Then i thought theres something about him, i can tap into that. Cooper never met the man he would portray because last year kyle was shot and killed by a fellow veteran at a texas shooting range. You met his father. Yeah. I spoke with him this morning. He saw the film. Yes. He had some concerns when you said you wanted to make a movie about his son. Understandably so. I think about it. Your boys kill and a year later these two men from hollywood are sitting in the very seat that chris had dinner in every night telling you that theyre going to make a movie about your child. I mean that was not lost on me how surreal it was. Didnt he Say Something like i dont know if you pretty boys can do it . He said something about hooking me up to the back of his truck and dragging me to take the pretty out of me. And i actually thanked him. I said fine. Now youve seen it. I wanted him to speak for himself but i will say this. It was meant everything to me, the call we had this morning because i looked him in the eyes, he and debbie and i said look, im going to take care of your boy. I know im 185 pounds right now and i dont sound like im from texas but im going to tell you im going to do everything i can to do right by him. Sean brock was born and raised in a small town in rural virginia. The town had no restaurants or street lights, but its there that sean learned to appreciate food and cooking from an early age watching his father grow their own food. He has become one of the souths most favored sons and a culinary ambassador, especially about low country cuisine. Hes now the Award Winning executive chef and partner of four restaurants in charleston, North Carolina and husk in nashville, tennessee. His long awaited cookbook heritage is a new york best thriller. We welcome sean to the dish. Thanks for having me. Tell us about this. This is the ultimate. Fried chicken, hopping john, cornbread, a little bit of pickles. This is a good life to live. Should i know what hopping john is . What is this . Every culture has rice and beans. In our low country we have what we regehr to as hoppin john. These are beautiful peas that are originally from west africa that have this incredible flavor and carolina gold rice which is to me the best rice in the world. I have to say i had a chance to thumb through the cookbook. Its absolutely gorgeous. What i notice its a lot about your personal journey. Yeah. I mean it ended up being like a diary of sorts, a journal of my journey as a chef trying to understand fully what Southern Food meant to me and like what Southern Food is to me. You grew up in rural va. What did your upbringing there do to influence this . Well, i grew up in a very rural part of virginia where you knew where your food came from you grew it you touched it. You knew exactly where it came from. You didnt go out to eat. We didnt even have a restaurant. That gives you a connection to food that you can only experience when you really handle it like that. I did that at a very young age. So i saw the work that went into food and now i have this deep appreciation for cooking. When did you become so passionate about preserving these heirloomed ingredients that a lot of people dont realize are not sticking around. Its when i started working in professional kitchens and i started tasting food and realized it wasnt as flavorful as my grandmothers. And once i figured out it was the plant vary i talls and the way they were raised that affected the flavor so much, i went on a crusade to find these old things and keep them alive. I also red you have a massive amount of old southern cookbooks that you draw on . Yeah. I find inspiration. I just love taking a step back anldd and. Its great source of inspiration. It seems like theres an inspiration for southern cooking. Dwhie you think people are more interested in this style . I get asked that a lot. I think its connected to comfort food and like we want to feel comforted when we eat these things and once you start eating soul food and you start eating comfort food you get hooked. It makes you feel a certain way. It makes you feel happier, yes. You mentioned a part of what made you want to do this when you tasted food that didnt taste like your grandmothers cooking. Is that when your love of cooking started . Yeah. I consider myself so lucky to have grown up with that storybook southern grandmother who cooked all day and was the best cook in the world. I knew at a very very young age i wanted to feed people. Im pretty lucky. You also do a lot in terms of just education. Did you always see that as part of the life you wanted to have . Yeah. I mean i love teaching. Thats one of the great things about being a chef is when you have a team, part of your responsibility is teaching. Every day i get to eat great food but, you know also teach young chefs whats important and teach them to inspire them to teach the next generation. I have to tell you im from texas and when i saw the pimm men toe recipe, i thought i cant wait to try it out. I want to hand you this dish to sign and let many ask you, if you could have this meal with anyone, who would it be . The obvious person would be my grandmother but i always wanted to share it with the president. That would be amazing. The two of them together would be amazing. Yes. Thank you sean brock. Thats the way i look at life. Especially now that i live with a higher risk of stroke due to afib a type of irregular heartbeat, not caused by a heart valve problem. I was taking warfarin, but wondered if i kept digging could i come up with something better. My doctor told me about eliquis. For three Important Reasons. One, in a clinical trial, eliquis was proven to reduce the risk of stroke better than warfarin. Two, eliquis had less major bleeding than warfarin. And three, unlike warfarin theres no routine blood testing. Dont stop taking eliquis unless your doctor tells you to, as stopping increases your risk of having a stroke. Eliquis can cause serious and in rare cases fatal bleeding. Dont take eliquis if you have an artificial heart valve or abnormal bleeding. While taking eliquis, you may bruise more easily and it may take longer than usual for any bleeding to stop. Seek immediate medical care for sudden signs of bleeding like unusual bruising. Eliquis may increase your bleeding risk if you take certain medicines. Tell your doctor about all planned medical or dental procedures. Those three Important Reasons are why eliquis is a better find for me. Ask your doctor today if eliquis is right for you. Hey guys.
