This is the iraqi leaders who needed to step up after we ended our mission there and give their country a better future. Theyre trying to seize back the city that was taken by isis fighters just more than a week ago in part of an overall military operation. Iraqi military says Government Forces are taking the fight to isis militants and that these bodies of isis fighters are the prove. God willing said this iraqi soldier they will not take another inch of iraq. This will be the fate of all isis fighters f after conquering and capturing large chunks of territory on a wave of fear and intimidation, the rapid sunni defenseive has appeared to slow down, at least for now. Large force have been doubling down in an effort to pinch after routes to baghdad, securing the roads of the Northern City of samarra. The army claims this raid claimed the province earlier this week north and east of baghdad. A seized cache of weapons is on display as is the body of a dead militant. Despite apparent gains with no political solution in sight, the conflict threatens to widen with or without u. S. Military support. Prime minister Nuri Al Maliki is desperately trying to hold onto power despite desperate calls for him to step down. And with the calls, the top cleric wants parliament to choose a new leader before it meets on tuesday, al maliki is fighting for his political life while facing growing battles throughout the country. Of course the sole purpose of trying to avoid this is to try to avoid further sectarian violence here and at this point theres no telling whether that can happen in a matter of days. Anthony . Part of it was hard to watch. And you didnt mind showing the rawness of what he was going through. Roger didnt mind showing the rawness of what he was going through. One of the scenes in the hospital showing the medical procedure, roger asked the filmmakers to come over when i was out of town because he knew i wouldnt want to show some of it. But now i agree with his decision. Because our society turns away from illness. We turn away from death and disability. Its all really a part of life. And roger was so brave. He wanted to show the whole lifecycle. The other main part of the story was a love story between the two of you. There are friends in the movie that said roger used to be attracted to gold diggers and psychos. And then he met you. You revealed for the first time candidly how you met. It was an unlikely union. Talk about that. The first time he laid eyes on me as i say, and its true it was at an aa meeting. He was with ann landers. He said he saw me across the room and he wanted to meet me. Well, so much for security. Surveillance video from Washington State shows two women creeping along a ledge at the Capital Building in owe olympia. They entered the Governors Office in an unlatched window and one woman sought down in the governors chair. One of them walked off wearing a state troopers hat. They took several other items, and drove around the traffic circle, and left. Both of those women were later arrested. Well they are called the central park five. In 1989 they were teenagers sent to prison for rape of a jogger here in new york. The men served 6 to 13 years before their convictions were thrown out. Yesterday they reached a 40 million settlement with new york city. But as Michelle Miller shows us, that money cant buy back the time the the men lost. Reporter 25 years after being convicted for a crime he didnt commit Kevin Richardson one of the men known as the central park 5, feels vindicated. Now it feels great to have a voice. Because until now we didnt have one. All we wanted to tell yall, we didnt do it. Reporter in 1989 richardson and four other teenagers between 14 and 16 years of age, were arrested for the brutal rain of a white female jogger in central park. She was dragged down the bushes near what is called the lock, where she was beaten and sexually assaulted. The crime drew national headlines, polarizing an already divided city along racial lines. Raymond santana served five years in prison. Is this over . Is the page turned . I still get up every morning and say, all right, we have to go out there and fight. Its like we havent even been exonerated. Thats how i feel reporter the victim was left for dead. She had no memory of the attack. There was no dna evidence linking them to the crime and no witnesses. The case was built on videotaped confessions. Yusef was 15 years old. I met santana in prison. We know each other. They painted this picture as if we got together and said lets hang out and go do this. Thats not what happened. Reporter what do you say to the people who dont believe your innocence . These people have their mind fixated on us being guilty. We have tried everything we possibly could to prove our innocence. And our innocence has been praoufrp reporter in 2002 12 years after they were sentenced, serial rapist reyes confessed, saying he acted alone. Dna evidence corroborated his story and a judge threw out the convictions. This is a victory story. This is a perseverance story. This is about fighting a good fight and winning. And this is the story about the city doing a good thing. Reporter 22 states now have laws requiring interrogations of minors be recorded. 15 of those states passed the law after the central park 5 were exonerated in 2002. New york isnt one of them. New search shows 3d mammograms detect more Breast Cancers than the usual methods. Jon . Thats right, anthony. A new study finds fewer repeat scans than regular imaging. 44yearold lori went for her annual mammogram using a technique that produced pictures in 3d rather than the standard flat images. This way they have such a better view they see way more things than they ever could and they are able to detect a lot more. And it hurts less, actually. Todays study in the journal of the American Medical Association showed over on 450,000 exams. 173,000 accused a woman receiving standard and 3d mammography. Those getting 3d mammography had 41 more invasive cancers detected and 15 fewer repeat scans to evaluate in conclusive foundings. Dr. Nancy elliott in new jersey. The study brings out women dont have to be called back as often. So therefore, theres less anxiety. Here is the regular digital mammogram of one of dr. Elliotts patients. It looks normal. But the 3d scan shows a hidden cancer. One that was eventually removed. Caplans exam was clean with no need for any further views. I think 3d mammography will become the screening tool of the future. I think its important that women get the message that if they are going to have a mammogram they should make it count. Jon, this seems a significant advance. Do you think 3d mammograms will become the new standard . They certainly have technological advance. But will it translate to less of a likelihood of women dying from Breast Cancer . And thats not clear yet. It could be there are some women who benefit from it more than others. For example, women with dense breasts. This acts more like a cat scan. It may be better at detect thing cancers in the women. For women with fatty breasts, it may not make that much of a difference compared to the traditional method. And increased regulation still says its other safe standards. Dont forget this is not yet covered by insurance and costs 50 to 75 a new report from the cdc said excessive drinking caused for onewupbone 1 in 10 dates among the working age. They are shocking in some way, especially when you consider the cdc said 88,000 deaths a year could be attributed to excess drinking. Thats for people between the ages of 20 and 64. It is shaving off 30 years of life for them. So these are really big numbers. Are we talking drunk driving accidents and alcohol poison something. Thats actually why the study was so impactful. It looked at it in a broad sense. Binge drinking, having more than for or five drinks at once is linked with car accidents, homicides, falls, that sort of thing. But just regular daily heavy drinking, which is more than two drinks a day for men and more than one a day for women is linked with with Health Problems that ultimately lead to death. Heart disease, Liver Disease and cancers, even Breast Cancer. Good news about aspirin. A new study finds men and women who took low dose aspirin had a 48 reduction in their risk of developing pancreatic cancer. A lot of people i know take baby aspirin. So whats the connection between aspirin and cancer . It is emerging that low dose aspirin can decrease the likelihood of getting other cancers. For example, colon cancer esophageal, breast and lung, and melanoma and others. The aspirin decreases the pathways involved with inflammation. If you bang your knee it swells up. If you take aspirin, it may decrease the likelihood of swelling. Because all the inflammatory compounds coming to the site are causing the problem and the aspirin holds it down. It turns out, a lot of the pathways are involved in creating cancer. And thats the idea. You are interrupting by accident the pathways involved in creating cancer. And that may be important 5, 10 15 years before the cancer develops. So should everybody be taking aspirin . Its a tough question. I think its very clear that aspirin, as jon was mentioning can play a role in preventing cancer. Whats not yet clear is who benefits from it how much they should be on and for how long. Aspirin is a real drug. It this. Bleeding allergic reactions and everything in between. So i think our research is still evolving not just to know it can prevent cancer but to know who its right for. And the latest prescription from pediatricians. Books. The American Academy of pediatrics said parents should read allowed to the children every day since birth. It is the First Time Since the group has taken an official stand. They urge doctors to act like librarians and make sure books are available to all families particularly those with low incomes. And finally four years ago, a young man named ian berkhart had a freak swimming accident and was paralyzed chest down. He is participating in a medical experiment that might change his fate and the fate of other paralyzed patients. Dean reynolds has more on this inspiring story. Ian had brain surgery two and a half months ago, as the first patient in an unprecedented medical trial involving surgeons from ohio state and engineers from battelle. A Nonprofit Research center who created a technology called neurobridge. The microchip is connect to a port screwed on ians skull. It is cabled to a computer which is supposed to decode messages from his brain and beam commands to a sleeve laden with aoe electrodes. His team is assembled in a hospital room to see if it would bear fruit. Really after this assassination within one week all of those alliances had essentially restructured right . That was part of the problem. All a sudden the dynamic got started that didnt allow them to do anything about it. I always compared to someone pulled the pin on the hand grenade and everyones trying to diffuse the hand grenade while its about to go off. You think if you only had time for the diplomats to get to work or cooler heads to prevail, i thinks might have been different. When you think about the German Military at the leader was there. He said this conflict were about to get into will decide the planet for a hundred years and here we are 100 years later. It was a truly transparent event. If you look at the people going off the war in 1914 they looked in some cases like they came out of painting in napoleons time. The last time was 99 years earlier at waterloo. 40 years later we have poison gas, heavy bombs bombing cities machine guns artillery, tanks. Its Like Technology on steroids. When you look at this historically then what lessons you do thing we can learn from all the way back . I think lessons you have to be careful because theres so many variables. But once you push the go button on war its so hard. Maybe you want to back up and as you said pull the pin up and put the pin back in the grenade. Theres an attitude that the terrorist attack caused all. This you can make the case that it was the response of the terrorist attack that led to everything after this. That helped a little known Startup Company develop its own Virtual Reality headset. Their latest prototype caught the attention of Facebook Ceo Mark Zuckerberg so much so he decided to buy the company. When you have a power house like facebook offering to pay 2 billion, what does that tell you . It tells me they see the few tu really accurately. All eyes were on oculus but peter believes Virtual Reality will go beyond gaming. This is where people are going to be socializing, going to be communicatinging going to be consuming media, playing games, doing work getting educated. You can look at art. Youre not behind a red rope. Youre not looking at the mona lisa. Youre up at the mona lisa and youre examining the pore obss on her face. He was one of the first programmers designing video games for oculus. You can look left right, up, down and you see all parts of the world. Yep. He gave us a sneak peek of his game lucky tails. The bulls eye is following exactly where im looking. Thats right. What do you think its going to offer consumers . I think what it offers is that child hood dream of being inside the game. Usc is now bringing that technology to the u. S. Navy as part of a government contract the university designed a world that turns plastic tables into menus that can be used to man a ship. They can get a birdseye view. Its like im right in the helicopter hundreds of feet above the water. Bolus has been working on a cheaper more mobile version of the technology. Hes pairing smartphones with 2 lenses and special software to create his own handmade headsets. Look inside. And now youre on the surface of mars. Go ahead and look around. Do you think a Virtual Reality set could be it. We see it. Virtual reality is really the way were going to go into the Virtual World and its going as common as smartphones. Well have one and bring it with us. The oculus headset will likely go on sale with a possible price tag of around 300 and the participation surrounding the new reality gear couldnt be any more real. How would you describe the experience of Virtual Reality . The world that was used is this concept of presence. In the past you would put goggles on whoever made them and there would be screens in front of your face and there was an illusion there but not much more than that. Now youre developing in this world. Maybe youre in a Movie Theater watching a movie. I want to ask you about the young man featured on the cover. Hes fascinating, kind of a quirky genius. What did he think was missing . In the past they heard about the headsets but everyone heard about it. Theres always been discomfort thats been associated with virtual reachlt palmer was a home schooled kid. As a teenager he modified game consoles for friends, he fixed i phones. He was always a tinkerer. He also wanted Virtual Reality. He grew up wanting to be inside the games he play. One of the earlier solutions he came up with is magnifying the image so much so that a small display would actually feel like it wraps around your face. Right. After that was solved it became cutting down the delay which is called latency. Thats one of the most important things that cuts down on the simulator sickness as you feel. So as time has gone on and iterations have come. They effectively solved most problems. Now its just the point of getting it out to the public. This is the sixth generation of his headset and hes finally solved these problems. Were less than a year away from this . Could be. Theyre still not giving a date. A lot of people thought it was going to come this year. Its looking like its going to be next year with the money thats coming in. Facebook bought them early. With that money theyre going be able to add a number of improvements that they thought were going to be financially feasible. Bigad talked about the ultimate uses of this. They have the largest per capita restaurant population of any city in america. They have 170 restaurants for a small town, so you wont be hungry. Last we head to the west coast and Lake Arrowhead california. It was interesting to see the people who do the macys fireworks display have a hand in this one. Its 80 miles east of los angeles.
