The white house confirms reports that President Trump and russian president Vladimir Putin spoke twice during the recent g20 summit, only the first meeting was known about at the time. The second discussion was not revealed until this week. In fact it first broke on charlie roses show on pbs. The white house says the president spoke to putin informally at the end of a dinner. President trump had an angry response to the news, tweeting even a dinner arranged for the top 20 leaders in germany is made to look sinister. No white house aide or National Security advisor was present. Translation typically the work of both countries was provided solely by the russians. Reporter Senate Republicans hatching a plan to simply repeal obamacare without replacing it. Im ready to vote to repeal. Im in favor of the motion to proceed to repealing obamacare. Reporter a Bipartisan Group of governors pleaded with the senate to reject efforts to repeal without a replacement, saying this could leave millions of americans without coverage. Senate democrats said the only option left was to negotiate with them. They thought they could do it on their own. Now its clear they cant, and the door is open again. Reporter but republicans have been promising repeal for seven years and have voted more than 60 times to try to make it happen. Theyll take one last vote in the coming days, forcing those moderates to put their no votes on the record. If that vote falils, do you then begin working with democrats . Thousands of people have been forced from their homes by a massive and fastmoving wildfire near californias Yosemite National park. 4,000 families have been ordered to evacuate, including everyone in the town of mariposa. Fire crews are coming in from all over california to fight whats being called the Detwiler Fire. It started on sunday but exploded in size over the last 24 hours. Now its threatening to cut power to Yosemite National park. The fire raced down the Mountain Side in mariposa, california, tuesday, fueled by strong winds and hot, dry conditions. Hundreds of firefighters are working around the clock to battle the flames. Overnight video shows them on the front lines, trying to protect a building from the encroaching wall of fire. You can see the ground still smoking as the crews scramble to keep up. When you add in that were in the foothills and slopes and grades and the temperatures that were dealing with, the humidities that were dealing with, its a fullon challenge. To the south, emergency crews are facing a new challenge. The fire is threatening power lines that supply electricity to all of Yosemite National park. The Massive Wildfire burned more than 25,000 acres and prompted mandatory evacuations. 4,000 people have been forced from their homes as californias governor declared a state of emergency. 1500 buildings are still in its path. Everybody is scared. Youd never think Something Like this would happen in your town. Temperatures are supposed to cool down today, but windy conditions will continue to fan the flames. Keep in mind emergency crews arent just fighting the fires, theyre also battling steep remote terrain and that makes the effort that much harder. That wind will not help them. Vlad, thank you. In other news, a minneapolis Police Officer who shot and killed an unarmed australian yoga teacher refuses to talk about the deadly encounter. Investigators say Mohammed Noor has declined to be interviewed about the death of justine damond, but the officer with him saturday night is talking. Matthew harrity told investigators yesterday he was startled by a loud sound seconds before the shooting. Outrage is growing in damonds native country. Reporter minnesota investigators say a loud noise startled officer Mohammed Noors partner just before noor shot and killed justine damond, a wellliked Yoga Instructor and life coach. Where you place your attention is where you place your energy. Reporter according to the Minnesota Bureau of criminal apprehension, damond called 911 about a possible assault saturday night. Noor and officer Matthew Harrity drove down an alley behind damonds house with their squad car lights off searching for a suspect. Harrity told investigators they were startled by a loud bang. Immediately after, damond approached the drivers side of the cruiser. Officer noor shot damond from the front passenger seat. Seeing something reporter the Minneapolis Somali Community admired noor when he joined the Police Department in 2015. But since joining, he has had three complaints filed against him. Two are pending, the third was dismissed without discipline. And last month noor and two other officers were sued for false imprisonment, assault, battery and negligence for their alleged conduct during a welfare check. And we are desperate for information. Reporter damonds family here in minneapolis and in her native australia have begged for information surrounding her death. We are seeking answers to this. This is a shocking killing. Authorities now want to talk to anyone who may have seen anything, including a man on a bicycle who stopped as officers were attending to damond. We did reach out to officer noors attorney and have not heard back at this point. Jamie, thank you. A 10yearold boy in florida has become one of the youngest victims of the National Opioid epidemic. Investigators say alton banks died last month after he came in contact with a powerful pain killer, fentanyl. But how the fifth grader was exposed is still a mystery. Altons mom described her son as a fun kid who loved the Carolina Panthers and wanted to become an engineer. But now detectives here in overtown are wondering how he came in contact with a deadly mix of fentanyl and heroin. Alton banks final days seemed to be a carefree one. Summer vacation playing at the community pool. But when the 10yearold got home, he started throwing up. His mother later found him unresponsive in his room and called 911. He was pronounced dead at the hospital. Toxicologists found the powerful pain killer fentanyl in his system. We dont know where he got it. We dont believe at this point it was in his home. Reporter Katherine Fernandez rundle is the state attorney. She said he likely came into contact with the drug at the pool or on his walk home. To think that this synthetic drug has hit our streets and is now going to be hitting our innocent children. Reporter his neighborhood is one of the many communities ravaged by opioids. In south florida alone, an overdose owe furs every two hours. Just how powerful is the drug . The tiny specks in this vial are enough to be lethal. Ohio Police Officer chris green suffered an accidental overdose in may following a drug bust. He was hospitalized and survived. This drug has no mercy. It doesnt care who you are. Youre dead. Reporter the medical Examiners Office says last year in the miami area there were nearly 300 deaths by overdose involving different forms of fentanyl, but drug dealers have been put on notice, there is a florida law that goes into effect in october that makes it possible to charge drug dealers with murder if theyre caught dealing a deadly dose of fentanyl or drugs mixed with fentanyl. Hes gotten in no trouble in nine years. Thats very hard to to. O. J. s prison life stands in stark contrast to his high profile brushes with the law that 1994. He surrendered to authorities after leading police on a slowspeed chase watched by millions on tv. His trial for the murders of his exwife nicole ask her friend ron goldman. O. J. Simpson not guilty of the crime of murder. The trial lasted more than eight months. The debate about whether justice was served continues to this day. He insisted hes not guilty. Its because the United States led these alliances, built these national institutions, was there. And without us, the world is not some self organizing system. And russia, china, but also other people like isis groups like that are filling the space because the United States is pulling back. Whats so odd, i cant think of another time in history when a great power voluntarily, in some ways, abdicated its position and created a geopolitical vacuum. You seem to be indicting obama for that. I think it began under president obama. President obama, i think historians will define by as much what he didnt do. So as george w. Bush overreached in the middle east and iraq, president obama was in ways an overreaction and under reached in many parts of the world, not getting involved in syria. And mr. Trump is his own, strange but not an isolationist. He doesnt believe in many of the standing structures he inherited from trade to alliances and the rest of the world is beginning to learn how to live without us. Our friends are basically saying, hey, weve got to look out for ourselves. So history is gaining momentum in ways we never is china filling the vacuum . China cant fill the vacuum by itself. If that doesnt work, though, we will face a choice, live with what they have, their ability to threaten us or use military force against them.
