Sean, sean sean oh, sean come on sean this mornings eye opener is presented by toyota. Lets go places. Welcome to cbs this morning. As you wake up in the west, the house is debating the latest plan to repeal obamacare. A vote is scheduled in a few hours. This time, Republican Leaders say the bill will not fail. President trump and his congressional allies agreed to add billions of dollars in funding. That change persuaded some republicans to shift from no to yes. Those members say the added money will protect patients with preexisting conditions. It did not persuade the House Democratic leader nancy pelosi who calls the bill a moral monstrosity. Nancy cordes is on capitol hill with the countdown to todays vote. Ood morning. Good morning. House Republican Leaders are meeting with all of their members right now, telling them that the time for this vote has come. I spoke to a number of members on their way in. Some of whom had been undecided or against it now saying they are on board. While others say theyre still perusing the bill a few hours before this vote is scheduled to take place. We need a cbo score. Reporter republicans and democrats clashed in a latenight session paving the way for todays vote. This process to put it bluntly is a [ bleep ] mess. Because we have enough votes. Reporter gop leaders and the Vice President have spent the past three days leaning hard on undecided republicans. How many people have changed their votes from no to question. There have been a number. Reporter some holdouts were swayed by lastminute tweex to the bill. Im happy to announce the people in the seventh district in missouri will have preexisting conditions covered adequately with this addition we talked the president into. Reporter the gop plan would reduce obamacares subsidies for lowering income americans and eliminate taxes on the wealthy used to pay for them. Instead, people making less than 75,000 a year would get agebased tax credits. The bill seeks to lower premiums by allowing states to opt out of obamacares minimum coverage rules which require insurers to cover things like Maternity Care and emergency services. States could also allow insurers to charge higher rates for some with preexisting conditions. But only if those states set up high risk pools to help people afford it. This is sort of a big league to win people over. Reporter democrats argue the plan has been panned by most major Interest Groups including the american medical association, the aarp and the american cancer society. Republicans argue obamacare has its own problems with insurance providers pulling out almost every month. Whats going to happen if congress does nothing when youve got states like iowa that might end up with no insurers in the individual market . Its up to its up to the trump administration, once they cant pass a bill, to work with us to improve obamacare. Reporter the most recent analysis we have from the Congressional Budget Office a couple months ago was that 24 million fewer americans would have insurance under this bill. We dont know if this analysis would change based on new versions of the bill, but republicans argue that the analysis is flawed and they have been encouraging their members to vote yes saying that the bill is going to undergo major changes in the senate anyway, gayle. All right. Nancy, we will all be watching. Thank you. The House Intelligence Committee hears new testimony today from admiral mike rogers. Director of the National Security agency and fbi director james comey. They will testify in private about russian interference in the last election. In a Public Session yesterday, comey told senators he was, quote, mildly nauseous at the idea that his handling of Hillary Clintons email investigation could have affected the election. Jeff pegues is outside the capitol. It was classic comey, blunt assessments and revplations, but his vigorous defense of his actions during the 2016 election, but he did talk about what he believes is the clear and present danger from russia. What kind of threat do you believe russia presents to our democratic process . Tay vie the greatest threat of any nation on earth. Given their intention and their capability. Reporter fbi director james comey offered the Senate Judiciary committee his chilling assessment on russian meddling. Is it fair to say the russian government is still involved in american politics . Yes. Reporter the fbis Counter Intelligence investigation into potential connections between the Trump Campaign and russia opened last july. Congress was notified in march. Comey said he didnt make the disclosure to congress before the election because the bureau doesnt make its investigations public. Was it appropriate for you to comment on one investigation repeatedly, not say anything about the other . I think i treated both investigations consistently under the same principles. Reporter but in july comey made headlines announcing Hillary Clinton would not be charged over her emails without consulting the justice department. He cited an impromptu tarmac meeting between then attorney general Loretta Lynch and bill clinton. Her meeting on that airplane was the capper for me. Reporter comey explained his decision to notify congress 11 days before the election about classified emails found on a computer clinton aide houma abedin shared with her husband Anthony Weiner. Appears to have a regular practice of forwarding emails for him to print out for her so she could deliver them to secretary of state. Reporter his first public explanation of the decision to Tell Congress was personal and revealing. Look, this is terrible. It makes me mildly nauseous to think that we might have had impact on the election. Reporter director comey said he had two choices. Tell me what you would do. Would you speak or conceal . Reporter according to some former fbi officials, comeys actions before the election did deviate from protocol earlier this year in january, the department of justice inspector generale launched an investigation into actions and yesterday, comey revealed that he has already been questioned in connection with that probe. Charlie . Jeff, thanks. Former National Security adviser susan rice will not testify before a senate panel looking into russian interference in the president ial election. Rices lawyer notified lawmakers yesterday in a letter. It noted their invitation was not bipartisan. Republican senator lindsey graham, who chairs the subcommittee, invited rice. One item not in mr. Trumps order, reported draft language that would have erased another item by permitting federal contractors to discriminate against lbgt employees. Rolling back his predecessors achievements is one thing. We want to create peace. Reporter achieving middle east peace is another. The president told palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas at the white house, he, like his predecessors, would help start peace talks with israel. Three previous president s have made the same pledge and fallen short. We will get this done. Reporter mr. Trump offered no details but said, peace is not as hard as it looks. Its something that i think is, frankly, maybe not as difficult as people have thought over the years. Reporter the president staunchly backs Benjamin Netanyahu and said little about the expansion of settlements. Mr. Trump criticized palestinian violence against israel. There can be no lasting peace unless the palestinian leaders speak in a unified voice. Reporter middle east peace is a longterm project for this white house, much more immediate concern north korea and gayle, secretary of state Rex Tillerson said yesterday the administration is putting together a new round of sanctions against north korea for its pursuit of Nuclear Weapons and Ballistic Missile technology. The proposed federal budget allots 61 million to offset security expenses for Law Enforcement across the country. What weve been concerned about is the ongoing cost at trump tower. The reimbursement to Law Enforcement put you a little more at ease . What the congress put together substantially will reimburse us, certainly for the time between Election Night and the inauguration of President Trump and provides real resources Going Forward for the protection of trump tourre and folks in it. Reporter new york not the only sitting footing the president s bill. Since his inauguration President Trump has traveled seven times to his maralago resort in florida costing Palm Beach County roughly 60,000 a day to provide security. Former National Security adviser susan rice will not testify before Senate Panels looking into russian interference in the president ial election. President trump will meet with the australian Prime Minister. It comes at a hefty cost for new york city. All hands on deck, staff meeting raising concern about the health of the queen. Of course, all of that attention pivoting to the prince who announced that upcoming retirement. Hi, everybody. And a very pleasant good evening to you. Legitimate broadcaster vin scully joins exclusive company. Im eternally grateful to the dodgers for putting me there. And now if you want to join me again its time for dodger baseball. House Majority Leader Kevin Mccarthy said last night we will pass this bill. It gained republican support with an amendment adding billions to cover costs for people with preexisting conditions. Republican leaders have had trouble getting enough members to support the bill. It can pass with up to 22 no votes from gop representatives. Democrats are upset that the Congressional Budget Office does not have an updated analysis of the plans budget impact. Mccarthy dismissed the concerns saying the cbo has already spoken. The house vote is scheduled for later this morning. Cbs this morning will bring you the outcome in a special report anchored by scott pelley. Fbi director comey said he wouldnt change what he did. In late october they found emails on a laptop that huma abedin shared with her husband, disgraced former congressman Anthony Weiner and some of the mels sags con messages contained classified information. James comey told senators that abedin sent them to weiner to be printed for secretary clinton. When the Anthony Weiner landed on me in october of 27th there was a huge new step to be taken, we may be finding the golden missing emails that would change this case. If i were not to speak about that, it would be a disastrous, catastrophic concealment. The fbi reviewed all of the messages on the lap on the before the election. Comey said he could not prove criminal intent and did not recommend charges against clinton, abedin or weiner. In this eye on money, a new survey shows many Older Americans are taking steps to prepare for retirement. But a majority might not be ready for the financial long haul. 74 of survey respondents aged 60 to 75 failed a quiz about making the savings last through retirement. Cbs News Business analyst Jill Schlesinger is here with some saving tips and reminders. Good morning. Good morning. I know we mentioned the quiz, but with lets start with those in the 20s and 30s, Retirement Planning is usually not a top priority. I know its hard to focus on this, but you know youre becoming a financial adult, you want to track where your money is going, coming in and going out. One of things that can be useful is to at least know what that money where that money is going so you can focus on paying down that student loan debt. I know thats a huge issue for lots of people. If possible wed love to get you in the habit of saving. Especially if youre working for a company that has a matching component to their retirement plan. 5 , 6 , that would be totally fantastic while youre juggling your other responsibilities. Save and what else . I think that the most important thing when youre really young is to get into this habit. And paying attention to it. As you go into your 30s, this is a time where maybe your real life is entering the universe, maybe im coupling off or maybe im single and making enough money, i can start really thinking about what kind of goals and objectives i have. Prime age is 35 to 50 years old. Thats huge. I want to be clear when we talk about 6 versus say, you know, 10, 15 later, the earlier you start, the better. I want to put this out there. Youre 25 years old. You save 100 bucks a month. Just 100 bucks a month. I know its hard. You do that until youre 65 youll have over 260 grand. You do that same exact calculation at age 45 for 20 years, youre only going to have 52,000. That is the boyar of compounding the power of compounding. Lets go from 50 to the mid 60s. I think this is an important time. You know, we go from 6 to maybe 10, 15, 20 . But when youre in your 50s and 60s hopefully the kids are gone. This is a critical time. They may be back for a while, but this is a time you can catch up. Maybe you couldnt do as much previously. This is also a time to get on track with what you and your partner want to do in retirement. And, you know, maybe its your estate planning. Your life insurance. I think it is so important to remember that this is the time also that you are focusing on what you guys think about retirement. More people go out, do more research about buying a car than their own retirement. And 60 to 75 . Dont spend too much when you retire early on. Dont forget as you get 70 1 2 thats a time where the Government Forces you to take money out of your retirement account. Okay . If youre still working at a company, you dont have to do so. But that is critically important. You get a penalty for not taking the money out of the retirement accounts. Thank you very much. Most Media Companies try to control their content. Youtube just seems to let it fly. Well, its a platform that anybody can upload content and you never know what youre going to get. Thats from our conversation with youtubes Ceo Susan Wojcicki back in 2015. Huge amounts of content has been uploaded to youtube since the founding more than a decade ago. 400 hours of new video are uploaded every minute. Users watch more than a billion hours of video on youtube every day. The companys now setting its sights on transforming television. Its new streaming Service Youtube tv lets viewers watch Live Television from networks including cbs. Youtubes Ceo Susan Wojcicki is with us now. Were pleased to have here. Tell me about what it is you are offering people with streaming. Yeah. So were offering the new service, youtube tv. And what we saw is that tv congress tent is content is really popular. We have clips and we have sports highlights but the next generation, they just arent watching tv in the same way as the older generation. If you look at the 18 to 24 demo, over the last five years, they have seen a drop. Almost 40 drop in their tv usage. We thought how can we take the great content thats on tv and how do we make it available for the youtube generation . So how do we make it on demand, mobile, searchable. Great recommendations. We have a cloud dvr. What competitive advantage do you have . With well, its well, its searchable. Google is great at search. Youtube is great at search. Personalized recommendations. Unlimited cloud dvr. So you dont have to mess in any way, you just hit the star and then that show is saved forever for you on the well, its a skinny bundle. Its only 35 a month. Thats amazing. For many young people who dont want to pay the 200 a cable bill or more, you can get a skinny bundle on youtube. Yeah. So price is a huge factor. So the 35 a month for six accounts, that makes a really big difference for our users. Its a way to bring the next generation and young people back to tv. Like we think tv has great content, how can we bring it back but use the latest technology and delivery and to make that available. Most of it is seen on mobile . Mobile . Yeah. Mobile is a big factor. Youtube right now, all the growth is in mobile. They want to be able to watch their tv wherever they are, in their bedroom. They want to take it with them. I feel like such a dinosaur at the table. I have about nine cable boxes. Now people go there and get all sorts of things. You saw h coming, didnt you, susan . Well, we saw mobile as like a huge change, a huge new opportunity, and, you know, for a long time we used the talk about being in living room. That is a screen thats wired to the wall. Your tv doesnt need to be wired to the wall. You can do it. You say this, youtube has a greater responsibility to the world. What do you mean about that . Were a platform that has a billion people coming to us a month and with Just Announced that we have a billion hours watched every single day on our platform, and so we realize we have really broad reach and we want to make sure were using it for good. So were constantly thinking about that. Were identifying creators who are doing really good work. Antibullying, to talk about b lgbt issues. It promotes tolerance. How can you help see the other side, help people understand different than yourself. Sometimes theyre beauty bloggers. Theyre promoting them. The other side is key. You wrote an oped. What do you see as the central question . I think the central question is how do we have more women h Silicon Valley. Right now theyre about 30 . Thats just not enough. Change in all areas, and so if you only have 30 of those change maker being women, thats a problem. Go ahead. Thats definitely an issue. Thats not sufficient. Theres no reason. Women are good at Computer Science. Women can be great at it. But you dont have a Computer Science degree, right . No. I actually dont have a Computer Science degree. Yeah. I have a history in literature degree. I took economics and an mba. I took Computer Science my senior year in college because i realized a little late. Its funny. I at the time thought, wow, its too late for me to learn and i realized its really never too late to eleven. You can always learn and you dont need to learn everything. You just need to be willing and wanting to learn. And not all text jobs require a Computer Science degree. You can work at google or youtube. You dont have to have a tech degree. Nina shaw is a badass attorney. She says this. If you want to be a woman in power, then empower other women. You are certainly one of those people. Thank you. Im working really hard. I think its a great career. Its creative, its fun. Its social. And we need more women. And if you want to think about how to change the world, 000 be a leader in the next generation for the next generation, knowing and Understanding Technology is a really important factor. They say at Silicon Valley actions speak louder than words. Thank you. Thank you very much. Thank you. The legendary band eagles filed a lawsuit against a hotel in mexico. Theyve only been open for a year but they already feel like an essential part of the fabric of their city. Theyre fun, theyre dynamic, a little bit more casual than what weve come to expect. Lets talk about turkey and the wolf, i love the name of that. Where a person said he named it after taking just a few bites. The chef said he likes to take the food and make it funny.
