Mexican officials have started efforts to send the drug lord known as el chapo to the u. S. For trial. U. S. Officials confirm Joaquin Guzmans meeting with sean penn back in october helped lead to his arrest. Guzman was captured on friday after a sixmonth manhunt. Penn described their sevenhour article released over the weekend. Manuel marquez is outside the prison. This is the same prison he escaped from back in july. Good morning. Reporter good morning. Law enforcement source, mexican authorities are worried el chapo could bribe his way to another escape from this prison behind me just a day after his arrest a Rolling Stone article was posted detailing a secret meeting with Actor Sean Penn. Penn said he agreed to let el chapo review the article before it was published, but the drug lord did not ask for any changes. This picture was taken as proof of the secret meeting between the Academy Award winner and the drug cartel kingpin. In a lengthy Rolling Stone article sean penn said he met with guzman last october deep in the mexican jungle. He describes el chapo as entirely unapologetic and he has indisputableopener g lo q as t saying i supplye heroin,heroin, methamphetamine, cocaine and marijuana than anybody else in the world. I have a fleet of submarines, airplanes, trucks and boats. How much heroin he send around the world including the United States is maddening. Reporter penn says they met for even hours and ate tacos at a picnic table and they agreed to reconvene eight days later for a formal interview and mexican authorities raided that hideout and the interview was canceled. Instead of meeting again in person, penn sent el chapo questions that he answered on camera with the help of an interpreter. Its a reality that drugs destroy, el chapo says during one part of the video. Where i grew up there was no other way and there still isnt a way to survive. The 17 minutes of footage was given to mexican Actress Kate Del Castillo. Del castillo arranged the sitdown between penn and the drug lord. The actress gained el chapos attention and perhaps his trust when she tweeted at him in 2012 when she tweeted i believe more in chapo guzman than in the governments who hide the truth. Penns travel to del castillo was arduous. They flew on two planes and one used radar scrambles to avoid detection. The second one was bumpy enough that they took a few swigs of tequila. He noted he wasnt blindfolded during the trip. Mexican authorities arrested el chapo on friday in los mochis. They say he initially fled through the sewer system after a deadly shootout. He was apprehended in a stolen car near the outskirts of town. According to a u. S. Law enforcement Source Police were tipped off by intercepted phone calls and penns visit. Authorities here have not revealed exactly where they are housing el chapo, but likely it is not on a ground floor where he could again access a tunnel. If sean penn is not in legal jeopardy why the reports that the manhattan is looking into ties between penn and the mexican drug lord . Because the u. S. Attorney and the Southern District of new york is very smart and what he wants to do is what any good u. S. Attorney wants to do, hes not targeting sean penn. What hes doing is looking at him as a witness. If i was a prosecutor id want sean penn questioned. Id want to know everything about that cartel. Police in italy are trying to piece together evidence about the mysterious death of an American Woman. Florida native ashley olsen was found dead over the weekend and police say she had bruises around her murder. The Italian Police vowed to give it what they called maximum attention. According to local reports she was found naked with scratch and bruise marks on her neck but no initial evidence of a sexual assault. This is her last social media post.
