On the late show with Stephen Colbert last night, biden talked emotionally about another moment of loss. It was his first tv interview about the death of his son beau. Biden explained how the pain makes it hard to decide whether to run for president. The conversation had a remarkable amount of depth for late night tv. My son was better than me. And he was better than me in almost every way. When he was in that accident and lost his mom and his sister, he was very badly injured. Almost every bone in his body broken. He was in a cast from his ankles, both legs, his chest. I used to carry him around. And my other son hunter was just about 3 and had a severe skull fracture. You sit in a room in the hospital and you turn and you say, huh, look at me. Look at me. I love you. 4 years old. Nothing changed. A couple months before he died, i was at his house and he said, dad, sit down. I want to talk to you. He said, dad, i know how much you love me so you have to promise me something. Promise me youre going to be all right because no matter what happens, dad, im going to be all right. I dont think any man or woman should run for president unless, number one, they know exactly why they would want to be president. And, two, they can look at the folks s out there and say, i promise you, you have mu whole heart, my whole soul, my energy and passion to do this. Its just the fact that im in control of my own emotions, in control of my mind, and so its a way for me not to let the keeper get into me. They probably want to do it because they want to stereo down and say you cant get that ball past me. Or sometimes keepers will point left or point right, should i go there, should i go the opposite way. Its a little bit of a mind game. You speak so warmly about abby wambach in this book. What was so special about this years team . We had a lot of veterans on this team. Abby was one of them. Shes been a really good mentor for me through out my National Team career. I think for womens sports, and i dont even think soccer, soccer internationally, i think its going to help other countries who may not get as much funding for their womens teams, i think it may have them look a little more into that and give a little more funding and create youth teams for womens soccer. You got to play with your mentors and theyre now your friends. What does that mean to you to know that girls are sitting at home saying, i want to be here. I did look up to them so much when i was younger. Being in this position, its a little weird to take a step back and think of myself in that way. But at the same time, i feel like we have such a big responsibility because so many young girls have such a big opportunity that 20 years ago they didnt have in sports. There may have been no filters, likes or double taps, but plenty of selfies. These are very early self portraits. These are incredible shots. This is after he got shot by somebody called valerie flipping through these polaroids is like reading andy warhols diary. There are images of famous friends like Jack Nicholson and liza minnelli. Its a very early form of selfie, as far away you can get from Kim Kardashian where its about her looking as best as she can possibly look. Warhol was an almost obsessive collector, amassing thousands of poll raids, the earliest from 1948. He kept everything. Michael hermann is the andy warhols director of licensing. He began sifting through all these photos 18 years ago. The interesting thing about warhol is he didnt differentiate work from life so much. Everything he did was part of his life as an artist. These polaroids very much speak to that. Some of the polaroids became warhols famous silk screens. Other he studied for later works. For these pictures he mapped out his design for the Rolling Stones sticky fingers album cover. All of them reveal the eye of an artist. How many of these were you working from. If seeing the polaroids isnt enough for you, christies is auctioning off 129 originals later this month, expected to command up to 25,000. Talk to me about this one here. Andy seems to have had some kind of fetish with shoes, with feet throughout his life. So it was something that kind of motif that he returned to time and again and again. Theyre like andy warhols instagram, documenting virtually anything. Its just that he did it years before anyone ever heard of the internet or social media. Andy warhol carried around either a camera or tape recorder with him most of the time. It was Pretty Amazing how obsessive he was about documenting life and looking at it in the crept context to see how obsessive weve all become about doing the same as well. What do you think he would do with social media today . I think immediately you would think he would embrace it and love it. The one thing i love about warhol is he was predictably unpredictable. He always embraced new media, but he was doing things new and different with it that we couldnt really think of at the time. I think he would probably embrace it, but using it in a way that were not really thinking of right now. The book andy warhols polaroids is on sale now for about 100. Can i touch it . M. , the time the south tower of the World Trade Center fell. Events are taking place across the bay area to mark the anniversary. State lawmakers announced last night they have struck a deal to regulate and license the medical marijuana industry. The deal will be contained in three bills. It will classify medical marijuana as an agriculture product forcing cultivators to follow the same regulations as farmers. The bill still needs approval from both the senate and the assembly. A wildfire in the sierra foothills is growing. The butte fire has doubled in size and is close to 32,000 acres. 1500 structures in amador and calaveras counties are threatened.
