A gunman fired shots at several buildings including Police Headquarters before he was shot. Much of the city center was closed off for hours. The investigation continues, but police in austin now say the immediate threat has been conta contained. Overnight, as you mentioned, a man began firing at a number of downtown buildings in the Texas Capital city, including the Police Headquarters, which then was evacuated as a precaution. I35, a major highway through the city, was closed off as police encountered the gunman. Austin Police Say Officers opened fire on an armed male suspect would was wearing some kind of a vest. The gunman now were told is dead. But the bomb squad is trying to figure out if he had any explosives on his body, in his car or maybe his austin residen residence. Apparently no one was hurt in the overnight shootings. Police have not given us the name of the shooter. Theres no indication police are searching for additional people in the shootings. Police have been on alert following developments in ferguson, missouri. The fbi has warned on a couple of occasions lone individuals could be motivated to launch small scale attacks. A desperate rescue effort saved those boys. Apparently a plow operator accidentally pushed snow on top of them. Elaine quijano is here with that story. Reporter good morning. The two cousins, 9 and 11 years old, went out to build a snow fort yesterday. When they didnt come back hours later, their family got worried. Residents pulled together and went on a frantic search to find them. Trapped in a snowbank, two babies. Reporter dramatic video captured early thursday shows Police Officers and neighbors digging to save two young boys. The two had been trapped for hours under a sevenfoot mound of snow. All i seen was the feet. The little boys feet was hanging. Reporter the cousins had been playing in the snow in a parking lot opposite the apartment complex where they were staying wednesday night. Their parents searched the area and called police to report them missing just before midnight. The dog was parking. It took the attention to where these children were at. Somebody heard the muffled sounds of the kids under the snow. People were screaming for shovels. Reporter the boys were dug out by 17 rescue workers and relatives who used shovels and their bare hands to free them. Police say the boys may have been covered with snow and trapped after a snowplow came through to clear the parking lot. When i left at 5 30, the snowplow was out here. He started plowing already. So he probably i dont know, he probably didnt see them. Reporter the boys were alert and responsive when they were found. They were taken to the hospital for treatment. One of the boys was released from the hospital with no major injuries. His cousin still remains under observation but this morning his mother posted on facebook that he is doing well. Anthony. This is about awareness. They want to make sure that people are aware that if they go voluntarily,ing there could be a criminal sitting next to them.
