The Group Claims Responsibility for a vicious attack in afghanistan in afghanistans capitol. The suicide car bomber targeted a nato military convoy. The explosion killed three coalition soldiers. People in the area reported hearing a huge blast. It happened not far from the u. S. Embassy in kabul. Elizabeth is standing by where we have new information about the soldiers who were killed. Elizabeth elizabeth, good morning. Good morning. We just had confirmation from the pentagon that two of the soldiers killed in that attack on the convoy in kabul were americans. The other one was polish. Witnesses said two land cruisers pulled up next to a nato military convoy and blew themselves up. There was instant chaos in the Early Morning kabul traffic. Taxi driver had the narrowest of escapes. The suicide bomber was two cars behind us, he said. And after the explosion, i dont remember anything. American troops joined afghan police, removing the dead and treating the injured before securing the scene so Afghan Security forces could investigate. But the target cause clearly nato troops. They blew themselves up on the just a couple hundred yards from the u. S. Embassy. Attacks like this continue to rock this fragile country. Afghanistans two main president ial candidates are in a bitter deadlock. Neither will accept the other has won. In spite of efforts by the u. S. And raging wildfires are destroying homes and forcing new evacuations in california. Six firefighters are battled about a dozen major fires this morning from los angeles to the oregon border. One fire raced through a Northern California town yesterday, damaging or destroying 100 homes. Danielle nottingham is tracking the dangerous fires from los angeles. Good morning, daniel. Good morning, fire Officials Say the bold fire that decimated the town is only 15 contained. Its just the latest in a string of fires being fueled by the record dry conditions. In the Northern California town the fire raced through dry brush monday afternoon. Destroying a church and a wind meal in the historic lumber town. Little else was left. Theres nothing left. My lawn is all burned up. Nothing left but bricks. Its all burned up. My clothes. All i have is what i got on. Wind gusts up to 40 miles an hour spread the flames from one building to the next forcing thousands in the area to evacuate. This is the time to get out. When we tell you to get out, get out. Firefighters used what resources they had to stop the flames in what has been a familiar sight throughout the state over the past summer months. All summer its been unusually hot and dry. Its supposed to be that way again today. Nearly 300 miles outside of sacramento, 1500 firefighters spent the night battling the king fire burning since saturday, it has destroyed over 8,a 600 acres and is just 5 contained. A lot of these fuels that would normally burn more mildly theyre just burning real fast. On the outskirts of Yosemite National forest close to fresno this fire is just 35 contained. At least 33 homes there have been destroyed. Its difficult to see the devastation, you know. You cant put it into words. What can you say . What can you do . Im hoping its there. Im praying its there. It would be too much of a heartbreak to lose it. Cal fire says theyve already responded to 4800 wildfires this year. Thats a thousand more than in an average year. Forecasters say prop call storm odile will bring much needed relief to the state on wednesday. Charlie . Odile is moving up Baja California this morning. But it still threatens to bring flash flooding to the southwest. Meanwhile, thousands of tourists are stranded in mexico and as ben tracy reports, a resort area popular with americans took a direct hit. Much of cabo san lucas, mexico looked like a disaster zone yesterday. It was a category three storm. Many whoa had taken shelter for the night found piles of debris where the homes once stood. They gathered their remaining possessions and were worried about looting. This woman said when we arrived everything was destroided. Now we just have to start to clean up everything thats left. Ocean front reservoirs once packed with tourists now sit abandoned. Their facades ripped away and lobbies swamped with water. The regions airport seen here hours after the storm hit are still closed. Further stranding the visitors moved to temporary shelters the night before. On sunday videos of the storm rolling in hit social media. With winds up to 125 miles per hour, odile blew out windows, toppled trees and destroyed power lines, leaving almost quarter of a Million People in the dark. We could see more thunderstorms and showers as we move through the next few days. As a result, Flooding Risk is very high. Flash flood watches continuing throughout at least your friday at this point. And were looking at very hot conditions for Southern California. Especially red flag warnings excessive heat warnings and watches lasting through this day. I will tell you temperatures are very hot for the west. As we head to the east expecting milder conditions. A chance of showers for the northeast and southeast later today. Evelyn thanks. President obama is sending up to 3,000 american troops in the heart of africas ebola epidemic. At least 4,700 people in five countries have been infected. At least 2400 of them have died. Well the Obama Administration is calling this a significant expansion of u. S. Health in the fight against the most ravaging Ebola Outbreak in history. Thousands more personnel and millions more Financial Aid will be brought to bear in west africa. In a fourpronged attack president obama will increase u. S. Resources in south africa aimed at slowly and eventually stopping the spread of ebola. Were going to try to help the governments in africa meet the needs of their people. The administration hopes to galvanize International Partners into action while significantly expanding its own contribution. Making an investment here early is critical to thery to snuff out the problem before it becomes a much more widespread problem. Among the investments, additional 88 million for equipment and supplies. 17 treatment units, each with 100 beds and up to 3,000 military personnel to help contain the epidemic and train up to 500 medical workers per week for as long as needed. What we say is train the trainers. Train the local people so they can do it. Do all the the work. Time is critical. The epidemic is growing exponentially and supplies are dwindling. Officials say assets will be on the ground in weeks. But International Aid groups have been sounding the alarm for months. The u. S. Focus will initially be on liberia. This is a very large epidemic. Its going to take a lot of effort over a long period of time. This is not going to be over quickly. And to push for greater International Involvement in this this, the u. S. Is calling for a special session of the u. N. Security council on thursday to discuss the Global Impact of the Ebola Outbreak. And mr. Obama will seek stronger commitments for other heads of state when he meets with them at the Un General Assembly next week. Dean, thank you. An expanded u. S. So what about this deal between fsab miller and heineken. Is the story is they went for heineken in order to rebuff them when they come. Thicke made the statements during his deposition in april. It was unsealeded yesterday. Its part of the ongoing battle between the creators blurred lines and the marvin gaye family. They claim their dad was ripped up. Thicke has said that marvin gaye was the inspiration for the song. Now, hes singing a very different tune claiming he did more than sing the lyrics. Reporter blurred lines war more than just a hit, robin thicke and Pharrell Williams sold more than 14 million copies. In interviews thicke described as an cooperative effort. Reporter an attorney for the gaye family told cbs this morning they dont buy thickes story. It cannot be reconciled and further supports this case. Lawyers for thicke say this latest developments are a distraction and that thickes moment of personal vulnerability is being exploited. There are certainly reputational issues at stake. Pharrell williams is one of the biggest in the music business. Robin thicke at the time was one of the upandcoming stars at the time. And these attack their credibility as artists. Now, Pharrell Williams in his deposition corroborates everything that robin thicke has said. And he also added that getting credit where no real credit is due happens every day in our industry. Every black parent in the south is going to be in jail under those circumstances. What do you make of that . Its not surprising. This is a longheld attitude among many africanamericans. Research shows that africanamericans are more likely to embrace Corporal Punishment than other groups. And so this is seen by many as part of a cultural tradition. And coming out against it some people think of it as disrespecting our culture, disrespecting our mothers, and the way we do things. So its not surprising to hear that attitude at all. Im not going to litigate what happened but based on the Police Report that i saw, its pretty disturbing. But you can walk into any county Prosecutors Office in america, particularly where theres a sizable black population and put petersons Police Report next to child abuse files in those offices and you will see striking pail legals. If you stop the drug, youre stopping three drugs instead of just one. This is an example when something gets approved in europe and has not yet gotten approved in the United States. Do they have different standards over there . Why are they so lenient about getting drugs to the market . Four kings countries have approved this. One issue has been the pharmaceutical industry. Lobbying to prevent . This isnt the typical drug thats profitable for them a drug thats patented that has a high profit margin is the kind they like to research and market. The polypill is generic drugs already available. So how soon might we get it here if it is im all choked up thinking about it. How soon could we get it here . In the next several years. Several years. The fact that the fda is talking about it now is a huge step. I think its just a matter of time. Good answers are ones that are very uncomfortable. They take you out of your comfort zone. And they show you to go against the grain. To go against the grain. Its always in places where youre not looking. Youre looking where everyone else is looking, youll have tons of competition and hard to differentiate.
