He was a proud young man that never gave up on his dream. He just kept going. People tell him no and he would find a way to get it there. He had a vision of what he was going to do. Always said he was going to go to the nfl. When he made it to the colts, he called me and he said i just signed with them. He was all excited about it. Then he moved to the cowboys, i was excited again because im a cowboys fan. Man, my Favorite Team got one of my favorite players. I was happy then. He was happy because he would about with josh. Josh would help jerry with the plays. Football, what they wanted to do when they grow up and have their kids to play with each other. So he was ready to go. [ sirens ] 911. Hi. I have to report a car accident. 114 west. The night before i just couldnt sleep. So i knew something was wrong. And i text jerry to tell him, i love you. If you go out tonight, be careful. I just passed the car in the middle of the road on fire upside down. The Highway Patrol was calling me about jerry. He told me my son had just been in an accident. And he didnt make it. My life stopped. Its just unbearable. We didnt know jerry for very long. He made such a favorable impression on us. And the impact he made on us and how difficult it was for us, i cant even imagine what she was going through. He was the world, just not to me but to everybody. He was goodhe just didnt keep it to himself. Dallas cowboy josh brent walked out of a texas jail sunday a day after he was charged in a deadly car crash that killed his teammate jerry brown. Jerry brown was my dearest best friend, im trying to deal with his death right now. I knew josh was hurting just as much as i was because jerry was his brother. Brent was charged with intoxication manslaughter for being the driver in a fatal crash that killed his best friend. If being mad at josh would bring jerry back then i be mad at josh. But i have no problem for him being at the Memorial Service with us. I had to forgive him. The burdens we place on ourself can be worse than anything a jury a judge can put on you. Sometimes you have to go through things to learn. Somethings you cant do. The things that hes going to be going through now is also going to help somebody else thats coming along in the nfl now or some just average joe that want to go out and have a drink and dont think. We know jerrys gone. We know hes not coming back. But he left something here for us. A month after jerrys passing, he became a father. For me helping to raise my granddaughter is a blessing. The former state trooper got out of prison last month after a jury found him not guilty of killing his wife, son, and daughter. 48 hours correspondent Richard Schlesinger reported on this. Reporter what does freedom feel like . Its a amazing. Its hard not to find me without a smile on my face. Reporter for the first time in 13 years david is a freeman. The last time he played baseball was in 2000, just before he came home from a game. He found his wife and two children shot in the garage. Everybody come out now. My wife and kids are dead. Reporter just three days later he was charged with three counts of murder but he insists he has an alibi. That basketball game. There were 11 eyewitnesses who saw him. How sure are you david cams with here for the entire two hours and change that you were here . 100 sure because i saw him walking on the side i saw him sitting down. Reporter cam has always maintained his innocence but in 2002 he was convicted and sentenced to 195 years. Good to see you, Richard Schlesinger. Reporter back then cam insisted to 48 hours the key to finds the murderer of his family was a grey sweat shirt. Thats the biggest clue in the case. The killer left a calling card. Reporter thats right. It shows it belonged to a convicted felon, charles bonet. By then cams conviction had been overturned but prosecutors recharged him along with bonet and both were convicted of the murders. He is the person that killed my family. Hes a psychopath hes a liar. Reporter it would take 13 years, multiple appeals, and one more trial before david cam was proved innocent. The third trial was based upon fact and evidence and thats what trials are supposed to be about. Reporter his new defense team called new experts. Richard is an expert in touch dna evidence. You found the dna on all of them and just last month he heard the words he waited 13 years for. Not guilty. I wailed i cried, i may have praised god, i thanked the jury over and over and over again. What was it like to follow this for 13 years and see such a reversal of fortune . It was an incredible prev lidge. Both sides all along had been very open with us and shared with us their passion about this case. Remember, every time this case came to trial, it came to trial three times, everything was on the line. David cams life was on the line prosecutors careers were on the line and we got to watch that over, you know more than a decade. As a reporter it was an amazing experience. As a viewer, youre going to be on quite a journey. So this grey sweatshirt how important was that and why wasnt it looked into earlier . Well, that was first of all it was critically important because it identified another suspect. Why wasnt it looked into . We deal with that kb tensively. There are allegations of prosecutorial miscop duct. We talked to the original prosecutor who gives an interesting explanation for why it wasnt tested. Im going to be a little coy here because it helps the story unfold nartly. Youre going have to be coy with this one too. Is the sweatshirt the turning point in the third trial . I dont have to be coy about that. It was the turning point for the entire case. There was no evidence no experts. The defense came at it in a different way and most importantly there was evidence improperly i admitted in earlier cases that was not allowed to be admitted in this last case and i think that made a big difference. An earlier delay we had leaving the city getting on the lower deck all of that has dissipated eastbound 80 now moving well approaching 7th street. San mateo bridge is trouble free from end to end. Still very light traffic for highway 92. 880 237 interchange all earlier problems have cleared out. Youre now moving well through the southbound drive. Mostly clear around the bay area hazy sunshine outside right now, temperatures a little chilly in spots though. Were the only species that loses sleep over the fact that one day in future were going to die. So in our minds we can kind of ponder the infinite yet heart pumping, breath gasp delaying bodies. So well put. So this absurdity of that juxtaposition imbues our greatest ecstasies with a little bit of sadness. No matter how wondrous, how wonderful our love affairs are, everything fades, everything ends. Your gift is obviously what you want it to be which is youre taking philosophy and youre making it mainstream. Yes. But when you watch the youtube videos i think how do you do this . You do this in one fell swoop. You dont edit that. All of that is stream of consciousness. I like to think i go into a flow state.
