Going to be tough for some people to get home for the holidays. Weather is the story. Bad weather is affecting much of the country. It threatens to create holiday travel, gridlock across the United States. Snow is falling from kentucky to maine as the storm moves east. Weve een steady snowfall in eastern ohio and much of the east is seeing heavy rain. Boston and new york bracing for heavy rain. Areas farther inland could get 6 to 12 inches of snow. Most of the east coast will be impacted tomorrow as millions of thanksgiving travel efforts take off for the holidays. Good morning to our viewers out west where there are only a few delays at this point, but that of course can change. Rain and cold temperatures are expected to last throughout the day here. Some passengers weve spoken with say they are not taking any chances. We need to try to leave tonight. Reporter just the threat of bad weather forced some passengers to change their travel plans. Monica and Martin Sylvain cut their vacation a day short. We didnt want to get caught up in rain all of a sudden this week, snow coming in. Yeah. We need to leave and get home. Reporter 1. 8 million passengers are expected to pass through atlantas Hartsfieldjackson International Airport during the thanksgiving travel period. We know that, you know, on wednesday the busiest passenger day of the year, its game day for us. So things have to run very efficiently and smoothly at the airport. So were prepared for that. Reporter even if the weather is not necessarily that bad in atlanta, other airports could impageant travel here. Thats right. We have a lot of connecting flights that come from all over the country and all over the world so, when theres a weather impact or a northeastern airport or somewhere else, it impacts our operation. Reporter airlines for america, the nations Largest Airline trade group, says this holiday will likely see the most air travelers since 2007. With 2. 4 million of them flying tomorrow. This is now moving through christianburg, virginia, where there was some freezing rain overnight. Having said that, we are still waiting for the bulk of the storm system forecasted to move through virginia and up the i95 corridor later tonight. That could make it a crazy and very hectic travel day tomorrow. Wednesday should be the single busiest travel day during the holiday season. Heres another number to chew on. 90 of all travelers will be getting there by car, wherever there is. The forecast is for soaking rain across the midatlantic and into the northeast along i95, and with this rain in the forecast, a lot of rain, if you are traveling along i95 or interstate 81 behind me. Be careful. Its very possible the driver in front of you may not see the road all that well at all. Norah, charlie . Thank you so much, orlando. Snow is falling in kentucky this morning. The eastern half of the state is expecting up to a half a foot of snow. Rick fisher, chief meteorologist at our boston station, wbz, is tracking all of it for us. Eric, good morning. Charlie, norah, good morning. A big mess on the east coast. Maybe the only saving grace the fact its a pretty fastmoving storm pap lot of moisture coming up out of the gulf of mexico. This is the first time weve seen a situation like this year. We have that moisture source. You see the snow on the northern endit. Places like atlanta and charlotte, this is where heavier rain will be coming down. By this even its on the move across virginia so, reagan and dulles. Tomorrow morning, the heaviest rain shifts to new york city and up towards boston and hartford, and thats where we really expect delays and wind. Total rain is a widespread 1 to 3 inches, a few spots in the appalachians. 3 to 5 inches of total rainfall. This is a pretty goodsized soaking and in terms of the snow, the highest potential western new york, pennsylvania, into ohio, 6 to 12 inches total not out of the question there. Charlie, norah . Eric, thank you. A 44page report reveals disturbing new information from last years shootings at the Sandy Hook Elementary School. The final report on the case focuses on the gunmans closedoff life and his obsession with violence and death. Elaine quijano is in newtown, connecticut. Elaine, good morning. Reporter good morning, charlie and norah and to our viewers out west. The summary report concluded that adam lanza acted alone, that he was solely responsible for his actions that day. And while investigators uncover details of lanzas life, none of the information answers the question why. Photographs released in a new report offer a glimpse into the life of shooter adam lanza. Inside the home he shared with his mother nancy, investigators found a computer game called School Shooting and images showing adam lanza holding a rifle to his head. Electronic evidence included nfgt about the columbine shooting and photocopied newspaper articles from 1891 about the shooting of school children. Lanzas bedroom windows were blacked out with garbage bags. In the month before the shooting he would only communicate with his mother through email. Also revealed in mondays summary, a more comprehensive time line of the morning of december 14th. It was just after 9 30 a. M. When lanza, carrying 30 pounds of guns and ammunition, headed for front door of Sandy Hook Elementary School. He shot his way in, shattering a plate glass window next to the locked doors. At 9 35, Police Received the fist 911 call. 67 Sandy Hook Elementary School, caller is indicating she thinks theres someone shooting in the building. Reporter by 9 39, less than four minutes later, the first officer arrived. At 9 40, Police Officers reported hering a last gunshot. The report was shown to victims families before it was made public. After reading it yesterday, the family of victoria soto, a teacher killed in the attack, posted this on facebook how do we go on every day missing a piece of our family . Those are the questions we seek the answers for. There is nothing in the report that will answer those for us. Adam lanza was diagnosed with aspergers in 2005. Mental Health Professionals say they did not see anything that would have predicted his future behavior. Charlie and norah . Thanks, elaine. This morning a longterm security deal between the United States and afghanistan appears to be in jeopardy. National security advisor susan rice has given afghan President Hamid karzai an ultimatum, and karzai handed rice a set of new demands. Elizabeth palmer is in london. Good morning. It became clear that president karzai was going to balk at signing this Security Agreement on the weekend, so susan rice took her first foreign trip to kabul to meet him face to face. President hamid karzai and the u. S. National security advisor posed for local afghan cameras looking cordial. But behind the smiles theres a deadlock. Susan rice believes the two countries had a security deal that would keep about 8,000 u. S. Troops in afghanistan after the official pullout next year. But at the last minute, karzai refused to sign. If the agreement isnt signed properly, what i said to the president is we would have no choice. We would be come pemed by necessity not by our preference to have to begin to plan for the prospect that we will not be able to keep our troops here. Reporter last week, a group of elders and politicians from across afghanistan approved the deal to leave nato troops in the country till after 2014. But president karzai suddenly overruled they will, saying he wont sign unless the u. S. Meets a series of conditions. That includes a commitment that u. S. Soldiers would no longer enter any afghan homes on military operations. A couple of other conditions president karzai suddenly said was the release of the 17 remaining afghan prisoners in guantanamo and more u. S. Help getting peace talks with the taliban rolling. The Obama Administration is promising a federal Health Care Website will be running smoothly by the end of this weekend. But with that selfimposed deadline approaching, cbs news is learning another promise by the government isnt holding up. Some of those who get their insurance through work are losing their coverage. Weve learned that the government estimated all along that millions of workers would be drop from their employee insurance under the Affordable Care act and for some its already happening. New hampshire Small Business owner nancy clark was featured last year in a white house video blog. The Health Care Laws about people like me, its nancy care. Reporter but things havent gone quite according to plan for nancy care. Last month her insurer said it was hiking rates 39 starting next year. Thats a 30,000 increase in costs to her. I didnt take it seriously because i have the opportunity to go on healthcare. Gov. So clark decided to terminate the insurance shes offered her eight employees and turn to obama care. But theres been one problem after another. Were experiencing technical difficulties. Thats the nature of the beast. Reporter Virginia Beach Business Owner nancy attkisson is also canceling insurance because her plan doesnt meet obama care requirements and cant afford to offer her employees one that does. They have to find their own. Im sorry. Reporter jay koorney has given repeated assurances that nothing will change with those insured through work. They dont have to do or change anything. This conversation doesnt apply to you. Reporter in 2010 the center for fed care and Medicaid Services estimated obama care would collectively reduce the number of people with employersponsored Health Coverage by about 14 million. The reason is some Big Companies will opt to save by paying the relatively small penalty for dropping employee insurance. Small businesses dont have to supply insurance and may find new policy taos costly. For her part, clark plans to help employees pay for their outside insurance and remains an avid obama care supporter. Im confident that healthcare. Gov will be fixed. Four adults face charges in a case involving a rape of a teenaged girl in steubenville, ohio. The case has been followed across the country. In march, two football boys were convicted of at a tacking the gi girl, and now School Officials are accused of a coverup. Michelle is in steubenville. Good morning. Officials are trying to find out if any other crimes were involved in this case. They heard from 120 teen, and yesterday, new charges were filed. This began as a rape of a young girl and a horrible crime of violence reporter that crime spread quickly around the internet. Football players carrying a drunk girl at a party in steubenvil steubenville, ohio. In march, Malik Richmond and trent hayes were convicted of rape and sentenced to a year in juvenile jail. Monday, Ohio Attorney general mike winan announced the indictment of four others, four adults. How do you hold kids accountab accountable if you dont hold the adults accountable . Reporter the School Superintendent Michael Mcveigh faces felony charges including tampering with evidence and obstructing justice. Two coaches have also been indicted for lesser charges and and Elementary School official is accused of failing to report child abuse. Earlier a cbs correspondent spoke to the dean about the protocol and why the football coach would be given the responsibility to discipline his players. Do you see a possible conflict of interest there. Protocol was followed, sir. What is the protocol . Did you and your principal follow the discipline approach . Yes, and we will when the facts are out make the decisions of what has to be done and who was involved and who was not involved. Reporter in february, he continued to defend the school protofol, and he wrote a letter to the parents saying that since we found out about the sexual abuse of one of the students, we have begun a dialogue with the authorities and continue to cooperate fully. If mcveigh is convicted on all counts, he could face up to five years and 270 days in prison. We have adults in the situation that it seems were more concerned about protecting certain things and people than they were about protecting a victim. Reporter the defendants are due back in court on december 6th for their arraignment, and with we attempted to contact them all last night. With we did speak to the School Superintendent and the football coach, and he has not been charged in the case, but neither would go on the record with us. Norah, charlie . Michelle, thank you. Reporter that philosophy is running up against the regulators of the food and Drug Administration and they are telling 23 and me to halt the sale of the kits immediately. With the letter they wrote to me are that they are writing treatment and advice strategies based on your genome, and so they would have to approve it before offered to consumers. Reporter they are concerned that people would change their medications. 23 and me would not respond to letter on camera, but the company e released a statement saying that our relationship with the fda is extremely important to us, and we are committed to fully engaging with them to address their concerns. We recognize physicians are new to a lot of this, and were new to a lot of this. Reporter 23 and me is on the frontier of genetic medicine, because frontier that the federal regulators are still creating the roadmaps. For cbs this morning, John Blackstone for cbs. This is a story that people should Pay Attention to, because it is about the emerging field of personal genetics and as she said, can you know enough about your own genome to change your behavior. She is married to sergey brin who found out that he had a p predereliction for alzheimers and so he is changing the way he does things and she, too, is changing her behaviors based on hers. And the one thing that as i listened to what john had to say is whether or not the fda is suggesting what you talked about is recommending treatment. Is it one thing to say be careful, and it is another thing to reck mepd some type of treatment. Yes, the fda thinks that people will get unnecessary procedures, and that is why they are saying it is a medical device and regulating it under a medical device, and it is going to p be interesting to see how it goes toward Preventive Medicine and preventing our own disease and knowing our own genetics. Well with, the more samples and the more numbers and the more people tested, the more information they will have. Yes. The beastie boys faces a new battle over a song girls by a toy company. It is an internet sensation, but the band now finds itself the target of legal action. Jamie wax joins us now. Good morning, charlie. Goldiblocks is wanting to start a new future of girls but it is starting a war with boys. Reporter it is a new Popular Video to tell the girls to lose the dolls and start building, but the use of the 80s song has the original artists claiming sabota sabotage. Girlmaker says it is a parody of the beastie boys 1987 song girls. On thursday, the company filed a preemptive suit against the band to avoid Copyright Infringement claiming that the original song was with highly sexist, and the parody takes direct aim at the song both visually and with a revise revised set of lyrics to celebrate the many capabilities of girls. So the company is claiming that this is in fact a parody, which is protected as a fair use of the copyright law, and the use of this song in this commercial is not going to adversely impact the sales or licensing value of the beastie boys song girls. Reporter the beastie boys responded monday with open letter and saying they are are impressed with the creativity and the message and added, when we simply tried to ask why and how our song girls was used in the ad without permission, you sued us. Rolling stone contributor adam light says that the death of adam last year further complicates the matter. The one thing that the beastie boys have been clear about is to refuse to use their music to be used to promote wills, and it is written into adams will that it not be used for those purposes. And since a federal case has been made out of it literally, they will have to reach out to be appearing as an aggressor which they otherwise would not have been. Hurst castle is still a surprising site on californias private coast, built a century ago, it became an overthetop showcase for his european art and antiques. The new book, hurst ranch, family, land and legacy, she looks beyond the castle at the vast ranch that hurst kept around it. He had his mothers love of art and architecture at the top of the hill and his fathers love of land and ranching at the other end. It was donated to the state of california in 1957, but the family still owns the 80,000 acre ranch and the buildings on it. Many older than the castle. I was stunned when i started researching this book on the hurst ranch and gaining access to family archives and seeing photographs that no one had ever seen. For all the grandeur we imagine he lived, he was in some sense a cowboy, a farmer. He was indeed.
