He reaches into his waist band, pulls out the gun, and starts shooting. A man in gray appears to have been the first shot. People behind him drop to the floor. One woman hides behind a luggage cart. There is no audio on the 20second recording. It appears to be surveillance video, but its unclear how tmz got the video. A Law Enforcement source tells cbs news the 9 millimeter hand gun he used to kill five people was the same he gun he had when he went to an fbi office last november. He complained that his mind was being controlled by u. S. Intelligence and he was being forced to watch isis terror videos. Police confiscated his gun and had him committed for a mental evaluation for four days. About a month later, his gun was returned. There is a federal law with regard to having a gun by somebody who is mentally ill, but the law requires the person be adjudicated mentally ill, which is a difficult standard. Reporter in puerto rico, his mother says her son sounded strange during their last phone call, less than two weeks ago. Im feeling like, scream, cry, because since she was so far away, i could not do anything. He allegedly confessed to planning the airport attack and chose ft. Lauderdale at random. A portion of the baggage claim area where the shooting happened has been reopened but curtains shield the crime scene. A mass shooting at a major u. S. Airport. Federal prosecutors say the gunman aimed at the head of each of his victims and he stopped shooting only when he ran out of bullets and then dropped the gun on the ground. She was one of five victims who didnt survive the airport attack. Parishioners and the priest are honoring the woman with the british accent who always called people lovie. It was difficult for people to come to mass today, but still they came to this mass because olga normally came to the 5 00 p. M. Mass. Reporter 57yearold michael and his wife were in florida for a cruise. He was killed in the shooting, she was injured. Iowa senator Chuck Grassley tweeted, pray i will for the family of iowa. Father michael was killed and the mother was wounded. And terry died in the attack. His fellow firefighters said in a statement he was well liked and respected for both his dedication to being a volunteer, as well as his professional approach to his job as a support tech. 70yearold shirley timmens was also killed. She was there to board a cruise with her husband, steve. He was wounded and tonight is in critical condition. The couple was about to celebrate their 51st wedding anniversary. The attack sent 37 people to Broward Health medical center, including six gunshot victims. Dr. Christopher roberts was working in the emergency room. Youre not just seeing a scene, you can look around inside it. It requires laser sensors that you set up in your room and special handles that you carry. As a result, you can even walk around inside the scene. Or even handle objects in that virtual world. Oh, explosions but it can be more than just blowing stuff up. It can take you places you couldnt or wouldnt go. Like the bottom of the ocean. Oh [ laughter ] okay, thats a big whale. Hi. Or the top of mt. Everest. Htc isnt alone, of course. Sony, samsung, google, and facebook each released new vr headsets last year. And just this week, another half dozen were unveiled at the electronics show. Never mind they could cost as much as 800 and must be wired to a high of end pc. But just because a new Technology Gets a lot of hype doesnt mean its ready for primetime. First of all, its a giant thing on your road. Reporter Dimitri Williams studies how people interact with technology. A lot of people had problems with sickness. That will drop down. Right now i have trouble sometimes and a lot of people do. Reporter so theyre big and heavy, very expensive and sometimes make you sick. Great. But williams says theres an even bigger problem with vr. Its incredibly isolating. It shuts you off from the world. I dont think people are going to be wearing vr goggles much of their days because they cant look at other people. Reporter thats where augmented reality comes in. Thats where you can still see the real world, but the computer layers graphics. Last summer, millions of people played pokemon go, searching the real world for creatures that only appeared on the screen. The microsoft lens is an augmented reality headset, or what microsoft calls mixed reality. Welcome to windows holographic. These are actually off. Reporter theres a picture of mountains on it. Thats a natural hologram. Reporter alex compares todays lens to a cell phone from 1985. But even this early model is wireless, weighs only a pound, and responds to hand and voice commands. I walked out having learned things i hadnt appreciated easter in the cadaver course or in our lectures. We envision a day with every student showing up with a holo lens in their backpack. This is going to be a core part of what you learn, whether history or anatomy, youre going to be learning on a holo lens. Is this radical enough that is something everybody has got some day . Absolutely. There is a world in front of us where these things are replacing your phone, replacing your tvs. Theyre replacing your desk top. Think about how long ago you didnt have pcs in your office. It seems like forever go, but its been like 20 years. So i do believe absolutely they replace it. When . I dont know. It will be within our lifetimes. I dont know about you, but im really, really bad. I couldnt find anybody to shoot.
